How are the secondary quests and the minor characters ? Are they better written than the main one ? And what about the main character Alexios/Kassandra ?

Edit : At this point I think I may just buy the game and see it myself

From what i see and read, its pretty bad. Very grindy game, very repetitive side quests, customization is full of micro transactions according to angry joe review. The main thing for it according to them is that is a pretty game. The rest quite mediocre.

I'm currently playing it (level 18). There's surely a lot of grinding and I feel less attached to the characters as in the previous game. This one is very similar in looks, but has some improvements, mainly regarding the naval battles and further customization of the ship (you can, for example, recruit people for it). There's also stuff "stolen" from other games as Witcher 3, like romancing (with rather clumsy dialogue so far). It's also pretty ridiculous that you (while playing Alexios) can romance at least two bearded guys over 20 .... I mean in old Greece .... The combat is also similar as in Witcher 3, since you can't fight with a shield anymore, so you have to block with your weapon or quickly dodge.

I don't even have a problem with the romance (though it's part of dialogue options which SUCK). Alexios or Kassandra can do it with whoever

It's the fact that it is SO clumsy and awkward. I'm playing as Kassandra (canon) and when she flirts its weird. And no matter how many times to answer no it still keeps happening. And it's like 70's porn level of dialogue bad.

I brought the game Friday. I played for 6 hours and started messing the Athenians in Megaris.

Concerning the writing style, the first difference I noticed with Origins is the tone. Odyssey is happier and more funny. It is distinctly different from the dramatic tone of Origins where you are immediately submerged by Bayek's grief over his dead son.

As expected I dislike the combat. It is worse than Origins as you can not hold your guard posture. It feels grindy too. Frequently I just push repeatedly the attack key until one of my opponent dies. Combat is also difficult and punishing. It should become easier now that I am level 9 and I unlocked a skill allowing to heal myself during combat.

In Origins I was a bit overwhelmed by the amount of combat gear loot. It is even worse in Odyssey. I kind of dislike it as scrolling over menus and wasting time selling unused equipment is not the most entertaining thing to do imo. The bright side is that you find many nice looking equipment. No matter what are your personal style.

So here I present you my misthios with his current gears :

I am fairly happy about this set. I will probably do as I did in Origins : stick to normal equipment as they are way cheaper to improve.

Don't get too happy with sets...You will be continuously switching things in and out as you go

I'm still on chapter seven, about 53 hours in. I MAY do all the side stuff before the end cause it apparently changes the ending.

I was going to post about how much great the game is and how much fun I am having currently. Alas the game decided to corrupt all my saves after 17 hours of game. I am pissed-off.

No backups outside of the game itself?

On PS4 and XBOX(?) I know the systems back up saves to the servers

Finished all three main quest lines.

Not a huge fan of the way things ended. This game could have been so good but they sold themselves short with the different ways you can complete the game, not linking the three main lines together, and just in general.

A shame they wasted such a great setting on this little experiment.

To be fair, nobody else is trying what AC is. They probably aren't going to drop the 'Assassin' tie in due to it being their brand, but to me, it doesn't really feel that much like an assassins creed stealth game due to a lack of focus on stealth.

However! First person historical (relatively) RPG's aren't really a thing, at least they weren't until AC started trying it. So, what they're doing is actually a good thing. I hope they perfect it by the time they get around to Assassins Creed Ragnarok. (not sure they actually will make one, but it sure would be cool)

The "Assassin's Creed" part of the series has definitely taken a downwards turn (honestly only Altair and Ezio's games feel Assassin-y), but I still like the games.
I'm about 40 hours into the game and level 32. I'm playing as Alexios, but due to the latest update it sometimes just randomly starts using Kassandra's voice lines which is weird as , but pretty funny.

I was using King Agamemmnon's armour set for quite a while, but I've decided to change it up and I'm using
    Common Eyepatch
    Rare Assassin's Gauntlets
    Rare Hunter's Outfit
    Legendary Slithering Belt
    Common Patched Bandit Greaves

I'm lucky that the gear I got gives me +42% Warrior Damage, but I'd honestly still use it even if it didn't suit my playstyle at all.

I managed to get back my save minus 15/20 minutes. Right now I have 55 hours of gaming on Odyssey. I am about to travel to Sparta as requested by the main story line. The game it great. I am taking my time to explore every area.

It is true Origins and Odyssey kind of set aside the whole Assassins vs. Templars stuff. As far as I am concerned it is ok. I never liked except with Altair and Ezio. I would not mind if Ubisoft stopped making AC games but kept this formula of story led RPG in open wolrd historical setting.

You were definitively right TheDarkKnight. Despite my best effort to keep a few equipment setup, I am overwhelmed by different equipment. It is harder to stick to the same equipment and improve it in Odyssey as we do not only need money but ressources too

    Anyone playing the DLC?

I have decided to not buy the season pass until I know what the price will be for the ACIII + Liberation remaster. I may just end up buying those separately.

I see no need to throw more money at this travesty of an AC game. Luckily my girlfriend (who loves exploring and collecting) has made it a worthwhile purchase with 160 hours or so put into the game.

Sorry but I'm on those that actually welcome the changes in AC. Imagine a Persian Empire RPG with all that great stuff.

    Just my opinion.

    AC Odyssey is great.

    This.

Apart from all the haters who love to say 'This is not AC' - Historical RPGs aren't given any real treatment like Assassin Creed does. I mean Curse of the Pharoahs was a tribute to Egypt's religion and its legacy. How many games do you see doing that? God of War has so far done Greek mythology and it will take years before they go onto the more exotic settings. But yes, historical RPGs? For history fans - Ubisoft are doing much more than Hollywood would ever bother to do - in terms of research.

And no I will not accept any other company apart from Ubisoft doing historical RPGs. Why? For years the game industry had plenty of chances to make video games on Ancient Rome(Only one game which was good but it flopped) or Ancient Greece, or even the Persian Empire, or Medieval Europe etc. The companies just ignored it and did 'first person WW2' when WW2 is the most overdone historical genre ever. Ubisoft made a damn game in the Seven Year War. The Seven Year War. Who else will make something like that?

Cite Ghost of Tsushima, yeah but its not going to contain 200 hours of gameplay with 220 side missions is it? It'll just be 30 hours of gameplay, 10 hours of campaign stuff and that's it. I want a historical game RPG that can give me 300 hours of gameplay with loads of side-quests.

Ubisoft are making and they do listen. Every time they had a setback - they've listened.

AC Odyssey is fine as a historical RPG if you like a bland story. That family storyline nearly put me to sleep and of course it was the main focus.

But the critical parts of what makes an Assassin's Creed game are either lacking or missing entirely in Odyssey. The only part I truly enjoyed was taking down the Greek mythological monsters because they tied in so nicely with the story of the First Civilization, and they were actually sort of a challenge (well...Medusa was). The cult part also had a small tie-in as well.

But the rest? whew boy...What a mess. The sidequests were lacking and extremely repetitive (those ing polemarches quests...), the main quests were ultimately boring as a whole, the RPG mechanic is stupid as , there is no stealth and free running is boring, the dialogue choices are pointless (as are the story choices and the fact you can play as non-canonical Alexios), the animation and voice acting have taken a big step down, the romance options are trash and out of place, the world is repetitive (only Athens and Sparta really stand out), the modern day might as well not exist anymore because the whiners were loud enough to get Ubi to remove it...I can keep going.

If this is the future of AC I'm out. Never in my gaming life would I look back and say "Damn...Unity was actually good...what the hell happened?" but Odyssey and (to a lesser degree) Origins made it so.

I actually look more forward towards firing up Liberation again than I ever do playing Odyssey again.

Edit: To put it succinctly, I last played Assassin's Creed III 6 years ago. I finished it and have not touched it again. Yet after all this time, sequences and memories stand out clearly in my mind. I remember the missions surrounding the Boston Massacre and other events and how Connor felt knowing he could have stopped it. I remember the side missions of him helping the homestead people find a new way of life. I remember his pain over losing his friends, his father, and his whole way of life. I remember his anger over the situation and how he strove to always press forward. And from the modern day, I remember Desmond's struggle with who he is, what he must do, and the responsibilities of his destiny. All after six years...because it was memorable.

Odyssey? I forgot about each quest (because memories aren't a thing now) soon after playing them. I barely remember Kassandra's motivations for her story. I can't recall the vast, VAST majority of the side characters. I don't even care how it ended. Because none of it is memorable. And don't even get me started on Layla...

I prefer the recent AC titles. Narration was never AC strong point. Origins and Odyssey offer large worlds to explore. Origins story and main character are good enough.

The phase of infiltration in enneny forts allows to play as "real" Assassin's again without hard gameplay limits.

To each his own. AC III was one of the least enjoyable title for me.

Bayek was a strong character. I will never say otherwise. It was his story that was a bit iffy in parts. Not terrible though, just weak when compared even to Unity which I felt had the weakest story of the franchise until Odyssey lumbered forth.

Kassandra is by definition all over the place. The "make her what you want her to be" just inevitably leads to inconsistencies. And again...it's a mechanic considering the franchise. AC was not built to be an RPG so the sudden and dramatic shift is crap.

Forts are okay except for the fact that with skills they can be a mixed bag. I don't feel much like an assassin when I can jump on someone from 30 feet up, stab them in the neck, and they SURVIVE because they are a high enough level.

I also am miffed when I pull off a headshot with the deadliest arrow in the game, it goes through their face, and they survive.
