    The Great Tilean Wars

I've been working on a mod that changes the core gameplay of Total Warhammer II to be more human centric and provide a total war experience based on the Pike and Shot tactics of the Great Italian Wars of the early 16th century but still staying within the overall world of the Warhammer Universe.

    Summary:
The Chaos Hordes have been defeated, the Orcs vanquished and there is now peace and stability in the realms of men. With the defeat of their great enemies, the world of men has largely turned their back on those who practice magic, blaming them for the Great Catastrophe that spilled pure chaos into the world. Greed however is that final demon that cannot be defeated in outright battle and now corrupts the realms that once stood for order and progress. The Empire, The Kingdom of Bretonnia and the Kingdom of Estalia have expanded their realms and brought peace, order and prosperity to their homelands but now their eyes turn south, to the rich lands of Tilea, the Border Princes and the new kingdoms forming among the old lands of the orcs. And so the men of the great powers muster for a new war, a war of nations. Whoever reigns supreme in battle shall have as their prize the rich and fertile lands of the South.

And beyond that the New World.

    Features:
    - New Startpos of the Old World based on the three great powers: THE EMPIRE, THE KINGDOM OF BRETONNIA and THE KINGDOM OF ESTALIA
    - Each of these will be given much larger starting regions and have a shared border with the wealthy but disorganized states to the south where they will battle for supremacy
    - Estalia will also be given direct control of their colonies in the New World
    - New Unit rosters based on real 16th century armies:
    - The primary troop type during this period was the pike column, so now each of the main powers will have access to a unit representing the massed pike columns of either Swiss, Landsknechte or Tercio. This unit will be about 4 times the size of all other units and will be the primary offensive and defensive unit each faction.
    - To support these columns of pikemen you will have small but elite units of halberdiers, swordsmen, crossbowmen, arquebusiers and zweihanders. In addition to the heavy cavalry of the gendarmes/reiters and the lighter lancers and pistoliers.
    - All of these units will be retextured using the awesome textures and models of Adopotato, Cataph and Marthenil (Permission has been given of course) in order to really give the units a proper look of the time period.
    - Magical units will still be available but in a much more limited basis, with focus instead being put on the use of the human units who will be given large stat bonuses to make up for it.
    - Bretonnia will no longer be stuck in the 14th century, now their armies will be based on the 16th century armies of France with their focus on the Swiss pike column, the royal artillery and the armored gendarme.
    - The Vampire counts will still be included but with an updated roster based on the Black Army of Hungary
    - Tilea and the other southern realms will be given more Italian looking skins to make them resemble the Condottieri troops
    - Will eventually work on Kislev to make them into a proper 16th century Russian faction

    Progress:
Just started working on this recently so everything is very WIP but it is coming along nicely so far and I dont think it will take very long to make it into a playable beta.

Default Re: The Great Tilean Wars

First test of the new 16th century combat system based on the research of real life tactics I have done. Now the pike squares will be your dominant infantry unit while the halberdier and great sword units will serve as elite support units based on the Doppelsoldner of the Lansknecht.

Also changed the missile units like arquebusiers, crossbowmen and cannon to work more like their historical counterparts, the arquebusier can fire up to 1000 meters now but very ineffectively and they take up to 45 seconds to reload so you have to actively time your volley to hit the enemy at the proper range within about 500 meters. Crossbows were actually slower than arquebusier to reload and didnt have that long of range so like in real life they are basically an anachronism and only good if you need cheap missile units. The cannons have 2000 meter range but low accuracy and take more than a minute to reload.

Next on my list is to introduce some more cavalry units based on the light and demi lancers and balance them with the reiter pistolier units and the heavy cavalry based on the gendarme.

The below screenshots are of the tests I ran to get the historical balance down and I have to say it turned out very much like the "bad war" described by 16th century italians:
