Indeed, the men over the Channel are diehard loyalists... it will be hard to find out his plans.

William knew he could not trust in Talbot and Walter. Both men were loyalists of the Conqueror's children... it would take much to make them betray Mortain.

He sighed the men that had returned to support the conqueror's heirs were a problem, but not nearly as much of a problem as the ones that stayed here secretly plotting against the new king. "Fools trading prosperity for loyalty to a dead man. William was a strong man, but his children are not him."

There would indeed be greater issues if his sons had succeeded... and for Mortain to pass over Robert will surely cause problems for his own realm, if William's son ever awakens.

Mortain had not left with Curthose, which only gave a further advantage to Edgar if the young Norman awakened. With him being passed over for Richard, the realm could easily weave a story that Mortain intended to crown one of Robert's younger brothers for the sake of controlling the throne. A thought that would put young Robert into an uneasy stance.

And if they had succeeded, Mortain would surely have brought ruin to us all.

"Mortain is a fool. He is lucky that William died for he was not in the late Kings favor." He chuckled, "Now he is going to be the power behind the English throne, or so he hopes." Gerold himself had put himself into that position and had benefited greatly. The predominate peer was a man who was respected across the realm he had the most to lose if Mortain succeeded in his plan. "As it stands I have Mortain's son as my.. guest. If the man truly intends to break his oath."

The journey was fair though long
de Warenne was curious as to the reason of his invitation today, though he was certain all would be clear soon enough

"Good I am glad your travels were fair." The man begins observing the other party. He had known little of this man a stranger really. Even when he had assumed command of Williams army he had not known every lord well. "Tell me William," He said using the mans first name. "Have you heard the rumors of Mortain's actions?" He studied the man looking for his reaction.

The younger Perceval, who is definitely not named Robert, appears as requested. Roger resembles his father at a younger age, with a shock of red hair to match his ruddy complexion, though he still lacks the beard that both his father and elder brother have grown (the latter partially out of grief at the loss of his young wife, in addition to trying to fit with the English better).

"I have, my lord." Roger replied, simply and steadily. He had given a short, respectful bow when entering Gloucester's presence as was due to his master, but now looked into his face directly, trying to figure out where Bageard was going with this.

"Good," Gerold begins lookijg over the young man who would be his son in law. "I am to busy to attend the meeting myself you will join my son Mar in represnting me at the meeting, and you will lead any men I choose to send into Wales." He taps the table thoughtfully, "Prove yourself in this and I will see some of the lands gained will be granted to you to administer in my stead."

"You honor me, Lord Gerold," Roger answered with a nod and a grin. He'd considered becoming part of the Bageard household one step on the road to escaping the shadows of his father & brother, and if he could actually be granted land as part of an anti-Welsh expedition...well, that step was proving to be a lot bigger than he had dared to dream. "I will not disappoint you."

"See that you do Roger," Gerold said nodding to the man. Before William's death Gerold had been planning his own expedition into Wales. The crowning of Edgar had raised his station and changed those plans. Still he wanted the valuble southren coastal lands. "I will see a suitable escort arranged, and Mar should meet you there. He is travling from his own lands. When plans are decided report back to me and I will see a suitable force raised for you to lead."

    de Warenne furrowed his eyebrow

I put no stock in rumours, though I have seen as I'm sure most of England the notices that Mortain has crowned young Richard as the rightful King of England.

"And what are your thoughts on this Warenne?" Gerold did not trust this man very far. He had been one of the slower to proclaim Edgar's rule. He was one Gerold most suspected to side with Mortain if he crossed the channel. Not that he thought Warrenne would be foolish enough to admit it he still needed to see the mans reaction.

de Warenne thought this man must have been dropped repeated as a child, nothing else could explain such ludicrous questions.

You seemed concerned Gerold, Mortain is no threat to the English crown the French alliance has seen to that.

Gerold raises an eyebrow at the man, "I fully know the benefits of the French alliance," he says dryly, "Having been the one that negotiated the alliance with the French king." He felt the man was being deliberately dense. "I was asking your thoughts on Mortain and his claim, not his threat to the crown." Gerold himself saw the man as a misguided fool at best. The lords following him and given up wealth and power in England for the claim of a dead man.
