Name: Gerbod ‘the Fleming’ de Oosterzele
Age: 28 (b. 1038)
Skills: Battles +1(+2 total), personal combat +3, survival +2
Temperament: Sanguine, Confident: This character is very self-assured, brimming with confidence and difficult to shake even under pressure. Bio: Gerbod, son of Gerbod de Saint Omer was not destined for greatness. Son to a somewhat prominent tenant-in-chief, he was never poor, but also not what could be described as rich by nobles of higher birth. Not content in his current position, Gerbod ‘the second’ joined William’s expedition in 1066, determined to carve out a realm from the Saxons. His ferocity in battle and fear of God led him to rise in prominence among the ranks of William’s invaders.
Temperament: Phlegmatic, Reserved: This character is a stoic who generally keeps to him/herself and exercises strict control over their emotions. While this means they're not likely to make reckless moves in court or on the battlefield, they can come across as unfeeling robots to others. +1 battle rolls, -1 Charisma.

Bio: Third son of the tenant of Yshoute near Oosterzele, Clais met Gerbod 'the Fleming' in his adolescent years. They sparred together many a time. After a short period of mercenary work, Clais returned to Gerbod's side on the eve of William's invasion. He would once again prove to Gerbod his skill in battle and their personal relationship flourished also, spending many a night drinking and playing dice together. Eventually, with Gerbod gaining considerable lands in Anglaland, Clais would settle in his court, still as leal a retainer as ever.

BIOGRAPHY:
Everything could be summed in a single line: thrice married, never subdued. The blood of the Northmen runs pure through Adelaide's veins, product of an adulterine relationship of the Duke of Normany, like any other child he ever fathered, for he was no man to be tied in a wedlock. That brazen recklessness runs deep in the family, a kin of outmost villany or capable of great heights of character. Adelaide, whose mother was never known in Caen, despite she was acknowledged as a child of the old duke, grew to be a resourceful woman, rather prone to govern herself rather than let her persona be governed by others, less worthy of such a privilege. In time, she married three consecutive times, each time growing more powerful and confident, birthing healthy children to her different husbands, including the last, Stephen, born from her union to the much younger Odo of Troyes, an impoverished and dispossed scion of the proud House of Blois. In due time, she became the countess of Aumale, a Norman fief, on her own right, being one of the very few woman who could claim as much in the whole Christendom. Adelaide has little qualms following her impulses and imposing her will on everyone else, her husband included, no matter she is considered of the weaker sex. Lately, with the House of Normandy in disarray, he hatched a plot to make herself duchess, but as it ultimately failed she returned to England, to swear fealty to the once-exiled Edgar Atheling, with two of her nieces in tow, offering the hand of the eldest to the widowed king in exchange of pardon and earthly rewards, in what he succeeded: her husband Odo was elevated to the greatest echelons of the English nobility, becoming Earl of Lincoln. That made her twice a countess, for marriage and her own right.

Bio: Harold is the son of the ill remembered Rauf of Hereford, a son of the Count of the Vexin and Godgifu, daughter of King Ethelred and Queen Emma. Rauf followed his uncle Eadward across the sea following his return from exile, and was eventually named as Earl of Hereford. However, Rauf's military record was questionable, and his lack of prowess in war against the Welsh earned him the disparaging nickname "The Timid". Despite supporting the King against Earl Godwin, Rauf had a good relationship with England's premier Earl - with his wife possibly being one of Godwin's relatives. Harold Godwinson served as the godfather and namesake to Rauf's own son, Harold, who was raised in the court of King Edward after his father died prematurely. Rauf's lack of political talent meant that Harold was not perceived to be a threat, for despite his prestigious ancestry he was but an impoverished child when the crisis of succession consumed England following the Confessor's death. As such, Harold was eventually granted the small fief of Ewias from William the Conqueror, and became a tenant of Lord Walter Giffard, Earl of Hereford. Recently he fought at the Meres under Giffard's own banner, having finally come of age and given livery of his lands in the past year.
CECILIA, Reine Dengleterre et Duchesse de Normandie
Cecilia is rare in that she is the daughter, wife, mother, and sister of men who have all claimed themselves to be King of England. Until a few years ago she had never set foot upon English soil, her entire life up until then spent within her father’s court at Rouen or Caen. Those years were spent almost entirely with her mother, the intelligent and resourceful Mathilda of Flanders, who became William’s queen upon his conquest of the English. Mathilda dominated the ducal household in their husband’s absence, the maternal bond between her and the children growing strong as a result. Cecilia was her favourite daughter, her eldest, and it pained her greatly to be parted from her when the Countess of Aumale took her to be wed to her kinsman in Champagne. It pained her even greater still to learn that Cecilia had been taken across the sea, to England, and wed to the boy who had usurped the patrimony of her own sons. Mathilda could not forgive the banishment of her favourite son Robert, but nonetheless found herself in a position she could take advantage. Mortain had stolen Richard and William from her just as Cecilia had been returned to her, and after Mortain’s inevitable failure she arrived in England to take up her position as dowager queen and as a member of her daughter’s household.
Cecilia is now torn between two warring families. Though she loves and misses her brothers dearly, Edgar has given her a son of her own to love, and treats her well besides; a privy purse and a castle at Berkhamsted where she raises her son - the son that will one day be old enough to rule England, as is his right as William the Conqueror’s sole grandson.
