Default Setting Information - Ambiorix's Revolt

It is the winter of 54 BCE, and Julius Caesar's invasion of Gaul is well underway. The wars had started almost five years before when Caesar entered Gaul, and his initial campaign has gone smoothly as could be expected. The harvest had been poor in the previous year, and Caesar was forced to garrison his legions in separate towns - this was the cause of the trouble. The great General himself chose to remain with the 6th Legion in Atuatuca Tungrorum, among the Eburones. Having command of only around fifteen cohorts in the immediate vicinity, Caesar was unprepared and caught off guard when the revolt occurred and he was killed, along with a goodly part of his men, in that forsaken town. The future of Roman Gaul hands in the balance as a result of this, it is up to Caesar's lieutenants to salvage the situation in Gaul and ensure the advances gained in Gaul are not lost. This crisis also creates an opportunity, an opportunity to succeed Caesar...there are seven legions left in Gaul (7th-14th)and they require immediate leadership.

Meanwhile in Rome, there is some adulation at Caesar's death among the Conservative Senators who wished to try him for corruption. A great political opportunity to wipe Caesar's cronies from positions of prominence was now theirs to take, and never since the time of Sulla had there been such a real chance at returning Rome to its older, more measured course.

    Tips for character creation:

    1. There will be an opportunity to gain an immediate military role as commander in Gaul (The senate will have no choice but to confer imperium to someone on the ground there OR an upstart in Rome could choose to petition the Senate for the command and march additional troops there.

    2. Players will have a choice upon registration of having a standing bonus for politics or economics (to immediately become Consul, have Imperium, etc or to start higher on the economic tier and have a double payday in the first week)

    3. You are not bound to be a historical character but may choose to do so. These personalities will still be bound by starting constraints.

    4. You should be thinking of which "party" you want to align with. Caesar's camp (populists) or The Senate (conservatives, We are assuming Pompey is dead in order to clear the playing field a bit)

This post may be further altered, but feel free to discuss here

    To do list:

    1. A list of the top ten Gallic tribes, names of their leaders, and their disposition towards Rome

    2. The game map needs to be updated to reflect a 54 BCE start date.

    3. Someone needs to research all historical Gallic legions so they can be added to this thread in the proper context. An identical number of non-Gallic legions will be created elsewhere, maybe historical ones but maybe not
