    Use this thread to purchase items, announce recruitments, and commission the construction of buildings.

    Economy

    Income
    1. Families will have a starting income of 5,000 Denarii.

    2. Families may choose one of three potential branches of the economy to invest in: mercantile pursuits, agriculture, or Urban Developments (Landlord/Real estate).

    3. Once a branch is selected, the first Class A building in Tier I will be given for free. The income you receive from whatever branch your family chooses is your family’s base income to which modifiers are added.

    4. Income is collected every Wednesday and Friday.

    Urban Development Branch

    Civilian/Roman Purchaseable Items

    Rules for Buildings

    Buildings may add one trait point to a single character with the exception of military traits. Buildings can be upgraded by paying the difference between the tiers. Patronage of buildings may also allow you to assume some sort of title or position such as a priesthood.

    Tier I: 10,000
    Tier II: 20,000
    Tier III: 30,000
    Tier IV: 50,000

    Buildings may be whatever you want them to be. A forum, a theatre, a statue, a temple, an arena, a plaza.

    A building takes one week to construct, at the end of which a thread should be posted in the City of Rome forum (or the appropriate location) establishing the structure as a place to meet. (if appropriate, a statue might simply be added to an already existing forum, for example, in which case its presence will be noted). Constructing a building allows a single person to change the landscape and the Roman skyline permanently. This is seen as a huge prestige move. Bonuses may be added depending on the uniqueness of the building on top of the regular bonuses.

    Civilian Retinue

    Anyone in Rome may hire any number of the following retinue. The bonuses apply only to characters within Rome.

    1. Clients. You have patronized a large number of Roman citizens who in turn provide you with their support.

    Tier I: 2,500 denarii per turn (+1 auctoritas)

    Tier II: 5,000 denarii per turn (+1 auctoritas, +1 vote for offices)

    Tier III: 7,500 denarii per turn (+1 auctoritas, +1 vote for offices, +1 rolls with the Concilius Plebis)

    2. Gladiators. Pairs of gladiators serve many purposes, from home security to holding games.

    Tier I: 2,500 denarii per turn. Three pairs of gladiators. (+1 personal defense)

    Tier II: 5,000 denarii per turn. Six pairs of gladiators. (+3 personal defense)

    Tier III: 7,500 denarii per turn. Twelve pairs of gladiators. (+6 personal defense)

    3. Greek Rhetors. Greek teachers are renowned for their learning.

    Tier I: 2,500 per turn. (+1 trait of choice every two years)

    Rabble. Rome is full of men for hire for a variety of nefarious purposes.

    Tier I: 5,000 denarii per turn (100 men)

    Tier II: 7,500 denarii per turn (150 men)

    Tier III: 10,000 denarii per turn (200 men)


    Military Items

    Legionary Recruitment

    Legionary Recruitment Cost: 20,000 Denarii
    Legionary Upkeep Cost: 5,000

    military units shall take 2 days to gather

    Desertions at a rate of 35% per year will occur for every year the legion goes unpaid.

    Question to ask yourself before you try to recruit a legion: Does this character have imperium? Did this character once hold imperium? If the answer to both these questions is no, think twice.

    Praetorian Guard - 1 cohort (500 men) costs 5,000 denarii and have a 5,000 denarii annual upkeep

    Legionary Retinue

    Player controlled characters may serve in the capacities of 3, 4, and 5.

    1. Engineers: Engineers enable the construction of siege equipment and field fortifications. 5,000 denarii for an engineer corps (cannot stack)

    2. Cooks and quartermasters: Good and fortifying food can not only lift morale, but make troops more prepared to face the physical challenges of battle +1 battle rolls. 5,000 denarii (cannot stack)

    3. Tribunus Militum: A high ranking representative of the soldiers and usually a man of equestrian rank, the military tribune may present the grievances of the soldiers directly to their commander, which in turn improves the relationship of the subordinates to their superiors. +50% movement speed. (cannot stack). 5,000 denarii

    4. Military Quaestor: An educated accountant and dispenser of legionary wages. Receiving the correct amount of wages and on time can contribute to a soldier's drive to perform his duty. -10% legionary upkeep costs (cannot stack)

    5. Legatus: A competent commander which can help one of the flanks win a victory. This member of the retinue adds a random general to a legion with random traits. 10,000 denarii (can purchase multiple times)

    6. Equites Extraordinari: A single unit of cavalry (200 men) - 2,500 Denarii (may stack)

    7. Extra Cohort: A single additional cohort of legionarries toadd to a legion (480 men) - 2,500 Denarii

    8. Reinforcements: Replenish your legion. (1 denarius per man)

    9. Auxiliary forces: (can basically be anything, provincial, etc, but requires mod approval. These units might get modifiers depending on the circumstances)
    Unit of infantry (480 men) - 2,500 Denarii
    Unit of Cavalry (400 men) - 5,000 Denarii

    Naval Forces

    Each squadron of ships consists of five of the unit types listed. So five ships per squadron.

    Squadron of Liburna: 2,000 Denarii to raise, 500 in upkeep.
    Small ships, outfitted for carrying transport material or troops into battle. Can carry 50 men per ship.

    Squadron of Quinquereme: 6,000 Denarii to raise, 1,500 in upkeep.
    Warships of a high quality, can carry 100 men per ship.

    Squadron of Trireme: 8,000 to raise, 2,000 in upkeep.
    Ramming ships of a high quality, carries only the crew.

    Squadron of Hexareme: 10,000 Denarii to raise, no upkeep.
    Generally used as flagships, these huge vessels have two decks of oars. Can carry 400 men per ship. Squadrons of this class consist of only two ships.
