Thread: Any tips on these awful forest battles?

I love everything about this mod except the forest battles. Not only can I not see the enemy half the time I can't even make out my own damn troops. Do you just have to suck it it up and do everything from your units "eye level"? These battles in the heavy woods are not the least bit fun

It seems to be a curse of this game to be in a forest for 90% of field battles.

Unfortunately, you will indeed have to do everything at eye level. There's a reason this type of forest map was removed from Med 2 and has not returned to my knowledge in future titles.

I would just assume use auto-resolve on these forest battles but EB has the absolutely worst auto-resolve results of all these games. Use auto and you will either lose a battle you should win or your General, cavalry, and upper tier units die a horrible death against peltasts and light infantry.

Here you have a climate map. Every colour means other climate.
    File: http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php...24675407493386
    Info how to: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showt...he-giant-trees
This file removes all huge trees on the battle map. It should help a bit.

Let me know if that still works and I'll try it out.

Use RS environments for eb. There will still be trees but all pine trees have been removed. It changes both the map graphics and battle graphics but does not interfere with gameplay. It is compatible with 1.2, 1.3, and all minimods.

All of the links for the giant thees fix are dead. Can someone upload it again, please?
The fix should be save game compatible, right?

Not sure about the remove giant trees mod but I recently downloaded and installed the RS2 Environments for EB mod from this thread http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...onments-for-EB

Not only did it make forest battles much easier but all vegetation on the map looks much better. I think I used a media fire link quite far through the thread as many of the older links were no longer valid.

Yes, I would definitely try for my next campaign but unfortunately it is not save game compatible. Right now I want to finish my current campaign but those trees make battles in some regions really tedious.

I see. I wouldn't want to lose a save either. If you can't find a download for the no more giant trees mod one trick I used to use in forest battles was to turn vegetation detail right down. Makes the trees less 3D so you can see a little further. Hope it helps a bit.
