    Songs & Riddles
    ~ Elven Home ~
    A Song of the Galadhrim

In Elven Home beneath the stars
The Mallorn leaves are seldom fell
Their light yet shines within our hearts
    In Elven Home, in Nimrodel

Lord and Lady, and Silver Mirror
    In Caras Galadhon reign
Their hearts of courage dissuade all fear
And hands of healing all our pain

    Nenya ring preserves this land
    Keeps it yet from doom
    Adament borne upon her hand
The Flowers it calls to bloom

But from Moria deep, Durin's home,
    Dwarrowdelf and Khazad-Dum
Still sally out with goblin throng
Drums of the deep to battle tune

For there oft our bowmen fly
    The Elven sentries, kinsmen dear
To Amroth's Fields that orcs may die
And valor great our lands to clear

Bows our heralds sing battle songs
    Arrows our envoys fly
Through bough and branch swift and strong
Our hymn, our chorus in sapphire sky

But now our tale too long we've sung
    Since the firstborn walked alone,
For Grey-sailed ships now bid us come
    From Lorien, from Elven Home.

    Eönwë's Prophecy
From the earliest years of Arda
Before the days of the light of Varda
The revival of Arnor, the enduring of Gondor
The Guardian of the Wood, the Axe of Erebor.

The Demise of the Seed of lie, and deceit, the Banning of Gorthaur
The Day all Middle-Earth, does not fall to devour!
By the Valar, thereupon, the key is no longer concealed!
Not by force, but by hope and loyalty, it can be revealed.

If lust for power and dominion reign,
Should knowledge attempt to delve too deep
Then hope and endeavour shall be in vain
And thy spirit shall wander, the Eldar, shall weep
When the Sun is gone, and the Moon is dead
No light on thy path. No more sign, to be read.

    ~The Horn of Ecthelion~
A Lay of the People of Gondor

Breaching forth into the vast dawn, from the High Tower it calls
Knight and Lord to it's rally drawn, As the River to Rauros Falls

Eastward it challenges the host of foes, through shadow and Morgul Vale
Into the fire and darkness it goes, that the Son's of the West may yet prevail

And west it beckons the men behind, swiftly to the banners fly
Courage in dark days men may find, strength to fight, and strength to die

South to the river and thence the sea, that sunders western lands
Elves may escape but men must be, forever parted from hallowed sands

North it billows oe'r mountains tall, into the northern realm
Lords to return to their ancient halls, And the King again to wear his crown

In the land of the King all his men, look proudly to the bastion,
For as men fight in all his lands they hear the Horn of Ecthelion!

    ~The Ride of Theoden~
War Song of the Horse Lords

Horns! Horns in Dark Mindoluin's sides!
At last into the Stoning Land, the King of Horsemen rides

While storms beset the skies above and Orcs the walls beneath
Sorcery breached the gate of Kings and hope began to flee

Battlements to stand against His wrath, Anarion could not have formed
Nor could Ecthelion have raised a bastion to tower above the storm

Yet in answer to His raging tempest , a thundering eastward came
Out of the west at dawn's breaking, Theoden King on Pellenor Plain

Banners unfurled in the new day sun, as the dawn rose behind
With shinning mail and glittering sword, Eorl's sons to battle did ride

It was then before the Rammas, the king called out to his men
Arise, Arise, at new days coming! Arise Ye riders of Theoden!

Horns billowed, and banners waved, swords were drawn and horses neighed
To darkness they rode then in glory unscathed, as heroes to our rescue a path they paved!

Into Pelennor they descended, and the host before them flied
For fury was in their northern hearts and songs of war they ever cried!

The scarlet banner was hewn asunder, and Theoden slew their chief
But then a more ancient King descended and fury was turned to grief.

We have faced the fires of the northern wastes, and are un-burnt, for on that fateful night when the pines roared with the wind from the mountains; our King, Bard, slayer of Dragon's; smote down Smaug the Golden into the wild and wasteful waters of Esgaroth! We faced the hordes of Goblins innumerable, which spewed from the great mountains upon us in our hour of struggle, and we are un-slain; for we beat back their throng and slew their captain upon Ravenhill. And now while our enemies are slain and scattered our once abandoned and ancient cities spring to life again! The people of Dale have reawakened and we found that we are strong!

For we are the men of Dale, slayers of Dragons, Marshalls of the North, friends of Dwarves and Elves. Wine now comes up the River from the men of Dorwinion, our merchants traffic this to the Halls of the Woodland King, and the Dwarves of the Lonely Mountain. Often our Merchants travel by the great Western road, over the Misty Mountains and into Eriador. We are known far and wide as good and fair traders, our reputation fills our coffers. But as we rebuild our old lives, the Shadow creeps in once more.

Though we were victorious in the Battle of the Five Armies, we are yet surrounded. The Easterlings are our chief foe, they lie to the south east, ever watching our lands and scheming. The Orcs of Dul Guldur are encamped in their fortress to our west, and other more foul creatures have been seen near our borders in Mirkwood. But we are not abandoned, we have many strong friends abiding in Rhovanion. The Dwarves of Erebor are our greatest friends, we share much; trade, weapons, maps, and in times of war we will fight beside oneother. The Elves of Mirkwood, while strange and mysterious folk are our friends as well. Their rangers often keep the creatures of Mirkwood from entering our lands. Also the Court of Dorwinion lies to our south, they are good and noble men, and perhaps the richest as well. Yet it seems the enemy has no fear of these. In the end the Dwarves will remain in their mountain, the Elves will stay in their beloved forest and the men of Dorwinion will continue to abide in secrecy along the shores of the Rhunic Sea. We however have no mountains or forests to hide in. Trade roads, outposts, towns and cities are scattered throughout our lands, and all the eyes of the enemy are on our wealth. Both our people and our trade must be protected!

In Dale our finest weapon is the bow, we are masters of it's art and deadly accurate, our archers will be the key tool we can provide in the upcoming war. Also we have many fine spear-men, and others armed with weapons from our dwarvish friends. But we are untrained, and largely undisciplined, after Dale and Esgaroth burned many of our barracks and armories were destroyed, and our troops must be retrained and re positioned.

As men we are valiant Edain, -Northmen as it were- and will not easily be frightened by shadow or sword. But the time of war will come and Dale must be ready, ready to fight...ready to hold. We have forts and towns along the River Running to aid in the defense of an attack from the south. Dale has many high towers and strong walls, and there are but 4 bridges into Esgaroth. An attack from land would be a hard campaign for the enemy. But he has the men to do it. We have barely the strength to hold our forts and towns, much less an army to meet him in the field. The overflowing of our coffers is worthless if not protected.

Also, we are the gateway to the West, and if we are overrun, our friends will be surrounded and slain. We can no longer trust in the strength of our friends, but must look within for the strength to fight. Rhovanion will soon be flooded with tides of evil men and orcs, burning and pillaging as they go. Now more than ever we need a captain, one like Bard, who, when the Dragon comes he will not run in fear, or be dismayed by the fire, but will take up his bow in defense of his Kingdom and slay the fell beast! You now are the captain of Dale, and when the Dragon of war comes...you must slay it!

As King of Dale, you have many generals and units under your command.
These are divided into tiers, depending on the quality of the unit.

Rhûn. The far east, the land of which little is known by the peoples to the west. It is a harsh land of plains and wilderness. There are droughts here, that would slay all who are week, we cannot herd cattle or live a peaceful and warm life like the accursed Dalians can. No: we must hunt, we must loot, we must kill, to survive! And survived we have for a long time! We are NOT week. We are ferocious. We will fight anyone who stands in our way: man, elf, or dwarf. We should be feared, and feared we are, by those who know us from the past. We encountered the peoples of the west on the field of battle, and from the field of battle, indeed, some know us, and they remember us: a harsh folk, not afraid of war, and as ferocious, strong, and resilient!

Oh yes, since that day, on the fields of Celebrant, we would never again be overlooked! Our warriors came there to take good lands to the west, to the eastern banks of the river Anduin we came, and we crossed that river, assailing the garrison of Gondor. We would have overwhelmed them, if Cirion had not come to their aid! Curse him! Curse Gondor, and all of Númenor! We were here long before they, these were our tribal lands long even before Beleriand sank beneath the waves! Yet still, though with great losses, and with aid of orcs from the mountains, we drove him off. We pushed him back, we crossed the river with success. Victory, was at hand! But that day, long ago, was not meant to be ours. As so often has been; A horse-riding, straw-headed, meddler came with a large host, splitting us from the orcs, driving both of us back, and the day was lost. But never forgotten, and never forgiven.

It has been long, since we were defeated. All could have been ours: riches, loot, new lands, the men of the west, dead, their stinking corpses floating down the Anduin, so that the people of Gondor could watch their fallen rot in the water, forever lost to the sea, never to rest in peace; but it was not so. We were pushed back to the lifeless lands of the east, to live there again, on dry lands, in the inclement desert-winds, on plains without food or water, bah! We could have lived on the green plains which are now called ‘Rohan’, given to those very horsemen that defeated us, by that steward of Gondor, as if it was his to give! It should have been ours!

But we have not had the strength to march to war once again. We waited. We were forgotten. Our name went from being one of fear, into something meaningless, like the breeze over the plains, ever without any message, or life. ‘Balchoth’, became a name folk had never heard of. But we did not linger. We waited, for we knew, one that had promised us much, would return once, to set the world ablaze once more. And that day came indeed: the One returned.

From afar, we saw the spirit of Sauron move from Dol Guldur south to Mordor: what a sight it was, that glow: deep red: full of fire, and hatred. It stirred us, and we awoke, for we knew, darkness had returned! Soon, Sauron would look to us to aid him in his cause. He would see us mustering again, arming ourselves, readying for war: his war, in which we would gladly assist him: it will come swift as the wind, as our horses ride, unto the undoing of the accursed peoples from the west!

For this war will be different than ever before: greater and more devastating than the free peoples could ever imagine! Nothing will be the same after the Great Storm has raged! It’s destruction will be remembered forever, and we shall take part in it, and emerge victorious, as we should have been long before! All our enemies shall suffer: their pain will be our pleasure. The cities of Gondor, shall burn! The plains of Rohan shall be scourged! The men of Dale and their wretched allies under the Mountain shall be undone, their riches, taken by our warriors! The elves will flee back to the west from whence they came: beware! Beware the storm that will come from the East! All shall fall before us: none will escape us! Prepare for the onslaught! Prepare, to be trampled in the dust! Westrons: prepare for your last doom!

As the Easterlings you have many generals and units under your command.
These are divided into tiers, depending on the quality of the unit.

Erebor, the Lonely Mountain, greatest of dwarf realms in the Third Age. It's solitary peak stands alone in the plains of Rhovanion, just outside the borders of Mirkwood. Here dwelled many of our forefathers, We dwarves are strong, as the roots of the mountain. The winds may blow and all the earth quake and tremor but the mountain shall always stand. So are the sons of Durin, strong as the mountain. We will endure. The dwarves owe no allegiance to Elves or Dark lords, we are free and care for our own. Erebor is the jewel of Dwarves, its great halls are filled with riches, and arms. It stands tall among the wilderness of Rhovanion, a challenge to all who would oppose. Our people are strong, our armor is the finest in Middle Earth, our craftsmanship unopposed, except perhaps by the elves. But even them we surpass in the making of jewels and metal. Our trade runs across the mountains, from the Sea of Rhun, to the Havens of Lindon; our coffers overflow, our people are strong.

Yet we are not without dark times; our wealth is the envy of all people but especially the envy of Sauron. Ever since we drove the Dragon from Erebor he has coveted our riches and arms that would fuel his conquest across the world. Yet he fears dwarvish Iron, our warriors are great and skillful and it would take a true horde indeed to drive a dwarf from his mountain, he would be foolish to meet us here, in our towering fortress. But not all dwarf lands are as such, Khazad-Dum, Moria has been overrun by goblins, many of our mountain halls along the north are all but abandoned, and as such they are ripe for the plunder of orcs. But as our strength grows we will look to reclaim and refortify our long forgotten halls, the sons of Durin are not as weak as Sauron thinks. Long has he been our foe, and long have we opposed him. Soon our furnaces will be reignited with the fires of war, our armies will march to meet him in battle, and by Durin's beard we will one day overthrow the Dark Tower itself; Dwarvish halls will spread the breath of Middle Earth! But alas it is all but folly. Our people are too few now to march openly against him.

But perhaps with a true bearded son of Durin in command, our armies could withstand these days ahead, and carve a new future for our people. But the Darkness will come, and when it does it will strike hard at Erebor and few would hope to stand in the day of his wrath. He will come with orcs, and trolls and Southrons and cruel men of the east, and perhaps even the Dragons will assail us again. We are overrun by orcs and goblins and dark lords, and shadow seems to be all that is foreseen...but our people are strong, strong as the roots of the mountain. The wind may blow and the earth quake, even the Anduin overflow, but yet our people as the mountain will stand. And though all his strength may assail us, he will see true sons of Durin, with axe in hand and battle cry in the air! And he will come to see, that Durin's folk above all others, are STRONG, STRONG AS THE MOUNTAIN! Baruk Khazâd! Khazâd ai-mênu!

As Erebor you have many generals and units under your command.
These are divided into tiers, depending on the quality of the unit.

From high tower it calls, echoing over the vast plains of Anórien! To the east it's challenge is Issued as it carves it's way over the Great River routing its foes before it! To the West it calls the Faithful to it, beckoning all to its piercing rally! Southward it runs to the shores until it is sprayed upon the Sundering Seas. Northward it billows, a deep and proud cascading over the High Mountains calling it's King home! Tis the Horn Call of Gondor, rally cry of the Lords of the West, yet heard in these darkest of days! It Cries for Ecthelion's Tower out into all the lands of the King: Gondor, Gondor yet stands!

This was the Realm of Kings, the once proud and great kingdom of men; but alas, proud heritage and many tales are not enough to pillar a kingdom. For Gondor is now fallen into ruin. Its once high towers now abandoned, and its great fortresses left to decay. Our people are loosing hope, and as its soldiers fall to the blades of Orcs and Southrons, its cities that once shown with the splendor of Numenor crumble to the earth. The Tower of the Moon is now rent with shadow and the city of Kings darkened with an empty thrown, Gondor no longer has the strength to repel the Enemy or ensure the safety of its lands...Few now have the courage to endure the darkness, much less the courage to fight.. For we are surrounded, the Eastern sky has grown dark, Mordor is mustered against us. And still yet more oppose us: In the south the Haradrim seek ever to cross the Anduin into our lands, and Easterlings from the Brown Lands raid our villages to the north. For all these foes, we have few allies. Rohan in the West has long been our greatest friend, but I fear they will not be long unchecked. The Northern Kingdom, Arnor has long been a waste land, and neither elves or dwarves will have the will or power to aid us...we are alone, alone in the ever looming night.

Yet greater then all these troubles is the shadow that has fallen upon these lands, which no mighty horn echoed from high tower can expel. Only the might of a king could drive this darkness away and see the White Tree bloom again. But hope yet lingers. Whispers of an heir to the throne in the north are flowing through the cities, and legends of a great weapon of the Enemy have also reached the ears of the Stewards. But while the men look for their forgotten king and the Stewards search for their hidden salvation, the lines of the enemy move ever forward, Who now will stand and defy the armies of Mordor? The sons of Isildur and Elendil now quake at the Evil of Sauron, they look for one who will lead them, a true captain of men. One in whom the glory of ancient kings anew is displayed, unveiled in the glory of valor, one who would lead them to the Tower of Barad Dur itself, But alas, such heroes have faded into legend. Men of valor are remembered only in songs and tales, there are few now who would deny the reign of the Dark Lord to any avail.

Yet captain, though foes beset us, there are still those in whom the blood of our forefathers truly flows, though we may not survive the shadow, much less can we abide it without struggle! We will not fade into darkness, but will fight, and fight with all the strength that is left in our mortal veins! Now bid the marshals to sound the call! To battle, arise true sons of Elendil! While strength yet remains, muster you courage! You are no vagabonds or villagers, but men of Gondor, Knights of Isildur's Realm and feats for such and greater yet remain!

Now you must hear the horn's beckon, for even they who are deaf from their mother's womb would hear truly such a call, and the dumb would cry aloud the battle songs, and the lame would march proudly in full battle array! All the servants of the Kings of old, arrayed in the splendor of our fathers once again! Elendil, Elendil for Gondor!

As Steward of Gondor, you have many generals and units under your command.
These are divided into tiers, depending on the quality of the unit.

Our Lord knows his servants well, we Southrons serve the Great Eye, and the Lord of the Black Land, for he has gold and wealth and will reward us greatly when the free peoples are gone. We inhabit the great Southern Deserts, the plains of Harad, and our people know it well. Here we have made a life for our people, when times are hard aid comes to us from Mordor, and so we serve him in his dark tower. For as he conquers, gold floods in from Mordor, filling our towns with trade and riches, for to serve they Eye he gives rich reward. But for his help, he would ask much of us, he asks for our children, to fight for him as warriors or to serve him as slaves, but so it must be.

The accursed men of Numennor, their fair lands will be ours. Let them rot in the deserts, as we sit in high towers of carven stone, musing on poetry. We are a cruel people and unforgiving, there is no mercy on this side the Anduin to be had! Our tribes are mustering as our reward is nigh. Sauron makes ready to march on the free men, and we will send our warriors to bolster his armies. Our great Mumakil will flatten their hordes, our chief warriors and magicians will best them in combat, and when their armies are all dead..we will pillage and take what is ours!

Gondor is weak, we will crush them quickly, Umbar will attack from the sea, and Mordor will march from the east, tell me who will look to the south? We will catch their villages unprepared, and their fortresses unmanned. And who will come to their aid? Elves are far away to the north, dwarves stay in their mountains, and all others have little allegiance or friendship with the White City. Only Rohan would come. But they will not, for Saruman the great wizard opposes the men of Rohan. He will send his armies against the riders and destroy them, even in their defensed places.

Our victory is assured, their is only one thing that lacks...a commander to rally our forces on to victory and plunder. Who will have the glory and the fame when their cities fall? The land and wealth after the war is won, but you o brave commander? And by the Eye... you will be richly rewarded. You need only muster the courage to lead the mighty Southrons on to victory, and soon your purse will overflow.

As the Haradrim you have many generals and units under your command.
These are divided into tiers, depending on the quality of the unit.

Orthanc and Barad-Dûr, the Union of the Two Towers, who now has strength to oppose them? Fools! They do not understand that to fight against the Power in the East is vanity! Elves are fading into the past, dwarves will remain in their mountains, and men, men have no strength left to fight. They are divided and leaderless, their armies will be but petty squabbles against the Black Legion. Against his might there can be no victory, we must join with Sauron. It would be wise.

Long have I forseen this doom in the high tower at the foot of the Isen, long has he disguised himself, only now to appear in full strength. The eastern sky has grown dark, Mordor is rising, fumes rise from pits as he forges new legions. Black Uruks, they are stronger than the orcs of the old Mordor, and he will cover the sky with his last shadow to ease the passing of those who would oppose him, under the sun. In Gondor, the Tower of the Moon and the Dome of Stars have both been desolated, how long do they think they have before Ectheleon's Tower too will fall, and his White Tree, burn?

I have seen much in the Palantír, he will strike hard against Gondor and break it apart from three fronts. The corsairs from the sea, the Haradrim from the south and his own legions from the east. If any help were to come to Gondor it would be from Rohan, but no help will come. For long have the fires of industry been burning inside Isengard, our army is ready. The once weak and frail uruks of Mordor, now perfected into my fighting Uruk-Hai. They are bread for one purpose, to destroy the armies and lands of the horse lords. They have no fear of daylight and wield a ferocity yet unknown to men. Théoden, King of Rohan, is an old man and Gríma my servant has already begun to poison his mind, he will not lead his people to the aid of their friends. Even if their armies marched to Gondor he will have no people to lead, the Dunlendings are raiding, burning farms and vilages, and now, our Uruk-Hai will march upon Edoras and the Hornburg. When Rohan is crushed, Gondor will fall. Our wargs and pikes will be quite the match for their horsemen, and the armour of the Uruk-Hai is thicker than that of any hauberk of Rohan. Our forces are prepared, the world of men will burn!

But in the end Sauron will need the Ring of power to finalize his dominion over Middle-Earth. If he seeks to be god and king over this world, he must have total control, the One Ring, Isildur's Bane is ever calling him...Find it! For if the Ring comes to Orthanc, it will not be Sauron that rules Arda, but Saruman, the Wizard of many Colours! And at last I will set this land as it should have been from the foundation. Where the wise rule over the foolish, and the petty pay tribute to the great. The Ring of Power must be found, but not by him. It is rumored to be carried by a halfling, if you should find any, bring them to me and you will be greatly rewarded. For now the Two Towers are at Union, but there can be only one, Lord of the Ring!

As Lord of Isengard, you have many generals and units at your command.
These are divided into tiers, depending on the quality of the unit.
