Thread: Scouting the North

    Default Scouting the North

    Several days after a relatively successful raid on a saxar village, and with no knowledge of where the main host had gone besides rumors spreading amongst the crew that they had gone south, some claiming they went north, while a few believe the saxar king's men slew Ragnarson and the host had fractured, Særæifr had the ships sail southwards a ways from the coast in case the band that had appeared in Orford right before their departure happened to be following them, before returning to sailing along the coast, looking for their next target to raid.

    Early one morning, the three ships of Véornson would descend upon a saxar settlement in the province of Maldon, while to the north, the host of Ragnarson would descend upon the assembling host of the saxar king outside of Rendlesham..

    Maldon:

    5% of the men are lost. 150% of the province income is taken as loot. East Anglia’s king is made aware of Vikings in Maldon, though he probably knew that already.

    "Alright, we are being sent north to see if the saxars have anything that could challenge a fleet of longships. So we'll sail up to here.." Særæifr points to a point on the map of East Anglia he had acquired before leaving Rendlesham. "..and raid there, then sail along the coast to here.." he points at a second location. "..perhaps raid it as well, then return back to Rendlesham to report, perhaps carrying out a third raid as well on the way back....no questions, good. Now, after we sacrifice to the gods...we shall set off."

    Orders : Raid on Smallburgh (Province 8), scout coastline of 6, 7, and 8 as the ships pass them, looking for signs of warships(if allowed?)

    Raid Roll:
    4 = 1-5, the garrison are caught completely by surprise and no defense can be mustered. Proceed straight to a Loot Roll.
    9 = 5000x0.9 = 4500 gold + 5000x0.1= 500 gold

    Scouting roll: you are only allowed to roll one province (this is for province 6)
    2 = Scouts captured by the enemy

    Since there are no enemies present, the scouts return without any information

    Results being changed since Xion was only looking to find warships and would certainly avoid areas where he would likely be captured.
    As a result of the low roll, the scouts return with no helpful information

    The raid on Smallburgh plays out in a similar manner to the raid on Orford, with the three ships reaching the shore early in the morning, the vikingr disembarking, and the town being quickly dealt. "So the scouts report an unusual number of seagulls and a few fishermen." "Yes, father." Særæifr sighs, none of that was useful. "Once we leave this village, we'll sail to the west to see if we find anything of use there, perhaps raid another target as well." "Then what, return to the allotment of land Ragnarson gave to you?" "No, that land from what my map showed is nowhere near a major river or the coast, only thing I may do there is build a small fort and assign some men under your uncle to oversee it." "Veornson, the men return with the loot." "Excellent." Særæifr watches a band of his men bring back the plunder from the village while the rest are setting fire to some of the hovels, gathering up peasantry to be turned into slaves, or gathering animals for a sacrifice. Særæifr looks at the assembled plunder and doles out the shares for his men, then stares at the remaining loot and has it stored in a chest. "We shall now celebrate our victory and give thanks to the gods, then sail onward to...Ely."

    ----

    Due to the failure of the scouts during the first part of their voyage, three pairs of new scouts are selected from the archers of Særæifr's warband for the second part. (Boat sighting roll and a raid roll on Ely)
