Thread: How To Add In Your Own Music To M2TW

Alright, I tried to give the Crusader Campaign for Kingdoms some Kingdom of Heaven music because, frankly, the Crusader music isn't all that great compared to the other three campaigns. However, I followed your steps (Extracted music, deleted Events and Music files/ backed up, downloaded the Kingdom's Text files, put them in Crusades/data, put my music in the folder and the txt, placed music into data/sounds, and ran the game), yet now the game starts with -NO- sounds. No SFX's, no voices, no buttons. I can only hear a dull wind on the menu, and I have to turn my volume all the way up to here it. Is there anything I'm doing wrong? I just want to make the Crusader campaign's music less lame D=.

I believe your events.dat and events.idx controls your sound as music.dat and music.idx controls your music.

To get your sound back try replacing your events.dat and events.idx files in your data/sounds folder with the ORIGINALS you backed up.

ALWAYS make sure you back that stuff up.

I'm no expert on this but this should at least get your sound back.

I had my own music going, until I did a total game re-install and tried to redo my music the mod folder way.

I'm following the instructions WORD FOR WORD and I can't get d$%k to work. But as always it's probably some mundane detail I'm missing.

    Success.

TigerVX, have you tried modding the music through the main data folder (MTWII/data/sounds/music) using the first method found in the instructions? That's what I just did and it worked all right for me.

Attempting to do it through crusades/data might be messing you up.

In addition to the Kingdoms text files you also need all of the M2TW text files as the Kingdoms ones are just the ones that have changed.

    Hi,

    I can't understand but IT DOESN'T WORK!!!

I have done it all, step by step, but nothing happens.

I made the new MUSIC folder with all the songs, put mine, edited the text files, moved the events and music files, but then when I start the game I hear no sound.

In RTW it was easy, I don't understand why it doesn't work here.

I even try deleting all movilize music for example, but leaving mine, and what do I hear when starting a battle? the normal music, as if nothing changed.

Plz help me, I don't like the music that much, I want to put the RTW music on it too.

    Thanks

If you don't get any sound it normally happens because you haven't got all the sound text files installed. You need all of them including the ones you haven't edited.

Assuming you're doing this in a mod folder then the game will load the file from the main data folder if it can't find it in the mod folder, however have you actually removed the lines for the built in music from the descr_sounds_music.txt file? If you just add in yours the game will just select one from the list for an event which could well be one the built in files rather than what you added.

    Hi,
    Thanks for your help.

I haven't removed anything, and btw I have added all sound files downloaded.

Now, I have done it all again and even if I delete both music and events dat and idx It will play the normal music.

    I'm comfused... :s

    Hi,

Here it is. I added the RTW music, I guess it will be easy to find

    Thank you

    --------
and btw, here (export_descr_sounds_units_battle_events) I deleted all the text, I have only left the firs one in case an error happens or whatever, I used to do that in RTW and it worked well

Looks ok. You've only changed it for the northern_european and eastern_european section which may be part of the problem depending on who and where you're testing it with.

Try changing the Frontend section (this is the music that plays when the main menu's displayed) as there's only one of them and you can tell pretty much immediately whether it's worked. If it does then I suspect all you'll need to do is change the sections for the other cultures to get it fully working.

    Ok, I will do that.

I'm playing as the Bizantines now, The northern europe music will not work but I wil try with the frontend section as you said.

    Thanks a lot nerazzurri

hey, I have just found out the problem!

for the people who still don't get to put their music on or delete the "man who speaks during battles (we have lost half our man... etc etc)"
do NOT unpack all the files, leave the game as it is. that was the mistake I made.

Thank you Trajan for your tutorial

I have "Deus lo Vult4" and a french version of MTW2 ( yes i'm belgian).
I put my custom musics and I listen them during the game. But when I click on a mod's faction ( Kiev,Armenia, Irish etc...) the game crash! I think the voices of "Deus lo Vult" are deleted by the original voices when MTW2 recreate them... Help me please!
    Sorry for mistakes...

I want to put music for each faction. In the file descr_sounds_music there is music for culture or religion. As I have said, I want that each faction has your own music, is it possible? I suppose that instead of
music_type northern_european, eastern_european, will have to put, for example, music_type England and this way with all the factions.

    Thank you for the answer!
Dunno if it will work but I noticed under Medieval II Total War\data\world\maps\base...there is a file called descr_sounds_music_types.
if you open it up, there seems to have defined regions/factions for every music types, for example -northern europe has england. denmark, hre and france... now i wonder if you assign/create a music type here for the faction you want to have custom music with..then update changes in the descr_sounds_music file...will this do the trick? I will def give it a try later..

I have been doing some sound stuff and I found a tool to normalize the volume of mp3s so they all play at the same loudness. Or you can adjust files up or down to a certain db level.

Not sure but it should. I was able to do it easily with SS 5.0.
