In the data folder of your game (or mod) you will find the file export_descr_unit.txt.
This file declares many of the attributes of the units in the game.
Choose the infantry unit you want to be the general's bodyguard, then go to the line that starts with the word "attributes" and in that line add the designation general_unit.
You may also need to find the cavalry unit that used to be the general's bodyguard until then and remove the designation general_unit, or eliminate the unit altogether, though that may require modifications in other files as well.

Post up the EDU entries of the current bodyguard, and the unit you want to replace them with.

The initial body guards in descr_strat (first unit in the character's army) need changing as well.

And also, the unit you want to be bodyguard has to be over other ones in the EDU. I mean if you code a cavalry and an infantry unit for the same faction (the two of them having general_unit), the game will affect the first one (so the one closest to the top of the list) as the standart bodyguard unit for this faction. All the Coming of Age generals will have this unit as bodyguards. But you can still make both recruitable if you set them into the recruitment pool of any building.

If you're doing a comprehensive change, then certainly.

Depends if other factions are using the unit and whether you intend to change them as well; you can do a quick and dirty change of soldier/armor_ug_model and stats in just the EDU.

Gig, does the unit in the EDU need to have the general_unit if you want to give a unit to a character in the descr_strat ? I mean, if you code a unit in the EDU without the general_unit and code this unit in first under the character name in the descr_strat, what will it do ?

Nope, the general_unit simply indicates that it will be automatically used on CoA and MofH events - the lack of such a unit for a faction will mean everybody dies immediately upon that event (I call it the 'Harakiri' bug). In descr_strat you can use any unit provided the faction has ownership - else you end up with a silver surfer.

Let me guess - you are trying to mod the main game? If so, then you might have omitted some stuff. Can I suggest that you install my Bare Geomod basic mod set up and try modding there?

You can use any unit you like in the descr_strat, doesn't matter whether or not it has general_unit. Of course that's the only time they'll appear thus, as soon as a new character appears, they will get the first unit in the EDU for their faction with general_unit.

    Or exactly what Gig said...

Yeah i know, it would be awesome to make that all factions have dismounted knights, i tried everything to make this but no success, can anyone connect with team viewer to help me?

Post the EDU entries for the two units here.

    You're using Notepad++ right?

Yeah im using notepad++, i think you need export_descr_unit, descr_strat and campaign script to make fully working script..

As it stands, the first unit is the only one they'll ever use. The second is entirely redundant.

Is this the unit you want to use instead?

If all you're doing is replacing one bodyguard with another, and you don't care about the unit cards or text, you don't need to change anything else (except descr_strat for starting bodyguards).

Delete both entries you have for Spear Militia bodyguards.

    Add this instead:

    Code:
    type Spear Militia
dictionary Dismounted_Feudal_Knights ; Dismounted Feudal Knights
    category infantry

    voice_type Heavy
    banner faction main_infantry
    banner holy crusade
    soldier Dismounted_Feudal_Knights, 80, 0, 1.2
    attributes sea_faring, hide_forest, hardy, can_withdraw, general_unit
    formation 1.2, 1.2, 2.4, 2.4, 3, square
    stat_health 1, 0
    stat_pri 13, 3, no, 0, 0, melee, melee_blade, piercing, sword, 25, 1

    stat_sec_attr no
    stat_pri_armour 7, 8, 6, metal

    stat_sec_armour 0, 0, flesh

Make sure it's higher up in the EDU than any other bodyguard unit those factions might have available to them.
