Thread: [Submodding advice] Unit gear changes?

Icon5 [Submodding advice] Unit gear changes?

    Hello friends

I'd like to have some advice and simple instructions from this friendly community how to change units gear.

Example the hellenic bright silver/yellow helmet with green linings at backside doesnt in my mind bode well with other helmets. It stands out in my eye bit cartoonic compared to the rest realistic bit darker ones. And that particular helmet is used almost every Hellenic, Illyrian etc. unit.

So the question is that if i wanted to change that helmet to different one on specific unit or remove it completely from the game and replace it with other already existing one, would it be too hard for a man who dont have any experience in modding?

That was example but any advice how to change helmets, shields and whatnot would be welcome.

Of course I have edited reform dates and other simple things with PFM but would this be from another planet?

    Thank you

Could you post a screenshot of that helmet? I don't recall having something like that in the mod, especially that you wrote you see it on almost every Hellenic unit.

Im on my phone and cant post a screenshot but example in your macedon 1.2 preview iphikratean peltasts picture in far right. The green lining on backside might be texture bug or atleast seems like one. Especially hellenic low tier units have them and garrison units.

That is just painted phrygian helmet. Hellenic helmets were often painted in various colours so outside of own aestetic, I would not call it unrealistic.

Aye not unrealistic and that wasnt the point of this thread. It just jumps out too much in my eye from other darker cool looking ones.

But yeah it was merely an example.

You need to edit the VariantMeshDefinition of a unit if you want to change a unit gear or looks.

I suggest reading the Sebidee's Complete Guide to Unit Creation:

or watching Magnar's Modding Video Tutorials

Episode 6 - Introduction to Unit Variant Mesh Definitions
Episode 11 - In Depth Variant Mesh Definitions (Masks, imposters, probability, attach points)
Episode 12 - Using Assembly Kit Variant Editor Basics (requested)

this should give you a solid base.
