I`m a friend of a good tax, my idea would go with "If you can`t ban it, tax it".... since it would be difficult to tax the ownership of firearms, one could use the indirect approach, aka create a sale-tax on ammunition.
Now need to fix something that isn't broken. Germany could use more lax gun laws to defend themselves against criminals, which have grown with numbers due to Merkel's immigration policies.
By means of ever more effective methods of mind-manipulation, the democracies will change their nature; the quaint old forms -- elections, parliaments, Supreme Courts and all the rest -- will remain. The underlying substance will be a new kind of non-violent totalitarianism. All the traditional names, all the hallowed slogans will remain exactly what they were in the good old days. Democracy and freedom will be the theme of every broadcast and editorial [...]. That's pretty cold. I think the US has a massive problem with gun deaths. Guns aren't the source of the problem, but they are a big part of it.

London's murder rate is now higher than NYC. The mayor's response? Knife control......

It's like we are regressing backwards. Back in the 70s, we saw actual efforts focused on the causes of violent crime. Now? Their mentality is forget about trying to improve quality of life, socioeconomic standards in the big cities, and access to careers and healthcare. Control the population first through bigger government agencies and empower the law enforcement. Yes, the same already militarized law enforcement that routinely murders our citizens that is often immune to prosecution. Also, completely ignoring the black market where criminals tend to acquire firearms. Guns per capita does not necessarily translate to the causes of violent crime rates. Columbia and Mexico have higher gun crime rates than the US does and both have strict gun control. Switzerland has higher guns per capita than the US and has far lower. While the media in Australia, UK, and EU countries paint this picture of the US being a crime ridden nation, the numbers simply don't support that narrative. Violent crime, including gun crime, has been on a sharp decline for 25 years and it is continuing to drop. An end to the war on drugs would decrease that exponentially. Taking away the main source of income for gangs and cartel. We are already seeing the effects of marijuana legalization in the US taking a serious toll on the income of criminal manufacturers and in their desperation have begun turning on each other.

I cannot support a solution targeting all gun owners as criminals anymore than I cannot tolerate any solution to terrorism targeting all Muslims.

Sigh... London's murder rate is already explained. It's a bad case of lying through statistics.

No one wants to treat all gun owners as criminals. What people want is to treat them like automotive drivers.

US has massive problem with gang-related crime in urban areas. That can't really be tackled with gun control, since there is already a black market for guns which would be impossible to regulate in American context. Solution lies in putting organized crime out of business by legalizing and de-regulating prohibited and restricted substances, but there is a huge lobby of alphabet agencies, legal groups and others that benefit from the eternal "war on drugs".
If we subtract gang-crime then US doesn't really have problems with firearms whatsoever.

Its a rather vague statement that becomes meaningless to someone who is being mugged or having his place broken into.

Other countries have made drugs illegal without the level of gun deaths the US has. Guns are part of the problem, but I agree not the cause.

Its a reductio ad absurdem that makes as much sense as the platitudes about guns making people safe. The US has an incredible level of legal firearm ownership that does not translate into improved safety for anyone. If the thesis "private ownership of firearms prevents break ins and muggings" then the US should have very low levels of those crimes.
