Re: Conflict in the East [2vs2 HS] Good vs Evil
The hiss and crack of flame and burning wood had brought comfort to the beleaguered party of Mordor. Yet with respite came risk, as evidenced by the axe now hurtling through the air and sure to embed itself within an orcish scout's skull. Black blood wept from splayed skin, covering splintered bone as dwarven miners and hurtling axes began to emerge from the brush all around. The immediate response of the orcs was to scream and flee back to Dol Guldur, chased and harried all the way by the Erebor fighters.
On the chase went to the gates of the Nazgul citadel, until the last orc had made it past. Desperate shouts to lower the gate were met with the stabbed bodies of the gate guards tossed over the ramparts, thudding on the ground as the pursuers approached to gain entry.

Re: Conflict in the East [2vs2 HS] Good vs Evil
Yeah, that's the problem with Mordor in this scenario: only one spy, no opportunity to get another one, and too many trees to scout. I figured there were Dwarves over there, but the mistake I made was moving my army slightly too far away from Dol Guldur a couple turns ago. It was a smart play to have your army in range to capitalize on any error I made in that regard.
Dol Guldur under siege. I'm at least 50% certain that I'm just marching into the buzzsaw that is Dwarven AR (since I can't see what I'm fighting against), but oh well. If Mordor loses DG the war in Mirkwood is over anyway.
The orcs get a measure of revenge against Dale; Grasgard is captured with the help of a spy, overwhelming odds.

Re: Conflict in the East [2vs2 HS] Good vs Evil
The Appalling Adventures of Mauthgor, Chapter 5
Mauthgor cackled, even as he listened to the pitiful complaining of his fellow rabble orcs. Why did they complain? Was battle not something to celebrate?
Although, he supposed it could not be said that orcs love battle. Orcs love slaughter. The difference being the capacity of the enemy to resist. Give an orc an opportunity to fight an outnumbered, outclassed foe, and he’ll jump at it without hesitation. Give him an even battle, and he must be ‘encouraged’ to risk his sorry hide. In other words, ordered to fight under the threat of a fate worse than death if he flees.
Such was the case now. The men of Dale marched in force, separate armies approaching from the south and the northwest, with their king himself leading the former. Khamul the Easterling sallies forth from Grasgard, falling upon Bard’s army in the dead of night. Even so, the two armies are almost exactly equal in number, a ratio which normally favors men. But the men of Dale do not have legions of elite orcish warriors, fancying themselves superior to their rabble cousins. They do not have a Nazgul commander at the head of an unstoppable force of cavalry. And most importantly, they do not have Mauthgor!
Battle rages. As his comrades fall all around him, Mauthgor struggles on, persevering through luck and sheer determination. As night gives way to the break of day, the orcish lines begin to buckle. The men come on, great two-handed swordsmen leading the charge. Mauthgor picks the fiercest of the bunch and moves to challenge him. The Dalesman’s first blow nearly shatters his shield. But the swordsman has underestimated his opponent’s strength. Mauthgor stops the blow cold, then stabs his rusty blade through his enemy’s throat.
On to the next. And the next. And the next after that. More and more fall before him, an orc possessed, an apparition covered in blood. Finally the orcs rally. Finally the men of Dale flee for their lives. Finally, there is a slaughter.
Mauthgor is not the only orc to distinguish himself this day. But his exploits do not go unnoticed. After the battle, he is promoted to lieutenant and given command of a unit of orcs. One hundred soldiers under his command. Mauthgor cannot help but feel smug. An excellent new blade, a shiny new set of armour. Life is good. But his hunger only continues to grow. This, after all, is only the first step in his rise to power.

Re: Conflict in the East [2vs2 HS] Good vs Evil
Whitout buying the mercs, I got a clear victory on the first try.
So either:
- replay the turn, fight the battle and buy the mercs after
- Don't replay the turn, the move is allowed, but you have to disband a melee unit next turn as compensation for the heroic victory

I'll do this at some point today. I initially misread cowcow's second post and thought he was going to replay (though I don't know how...it's pretty clear).
