    Default Positions of the Armies

Use this thread to detail the forces of Armies within the Realm, as well as to post movements. Please be specific with movements. If you lack detail, the shortest distance by simply drawing a straight line will be assumed. Post any additions to your forces other than your original levy. Total army sizes should be kept track of within home threads.

Map of the Late Roman provinces in the West

    Movement times are simple:
    • 1 hour from province to province
    • 20 minutes from one location to another inside a province (ex. from Treverorum to a limitanei fort in Belgica I)

    As for naval movements:
    • 30 minutes to reach a port in the same diocese (ex. from Tarraco to Carthago Nova)
    • 1 hour to reach a port in a neighboring diocese (ex. from Rome to Aquileia)
    • Add extra hours for dioceses further away, 1 more hour per every diocese in the way (ex. from Carthage to London = 4 hours; 1 hour each for Hispania, Septem Provinciae, Galliae and Britanniae)

See this map for a more detailed look at the limitanei forts and other settlements of significance within each of the provinces: http://pelagios.org/maps/greco-roman/

    Existing limitanei forces
Each limitanei legion comprises of three cohorts: two of infantry and one of archers, for a total of 1,500 men per legion. The exceptions are the Gallic, African and Illyrian limes, which comprise of one infantry, one archer and one cavalry cohort to counter barbarian raids more effectively.

9x limitanei legions in Maxima Caesariensis - the Saxon Shore forts

If besieged, each limitanei fort can hold out for one week, and provides +4 to the defender's rolls if stormed head-on. For a map of the forts, see this incredibly detailed map of the Late Empire provided by Lucius.

Note that all foederati are free of upkeep, being instead sustained by the territories granted unto them.

Germaniciani Iuniores, Lanciarii Gallicani Honoriani and four ripenses legions along the Limes Germanicus are to move into Chamavi territory under the command of the Camavi brothers (Richomeres taking precedence over Bauto, as both his elder and the official Dux Germanicae), to secure that tribe's safe arrival in Roman territory so that they may begin serving as foederati.

ETA: ??? (up to the mod really)

    ---

The palatine and comital legions of Italia Suburbicaria & Septem Provinciae, as well as the Brachiati Seniores & Leones Iuniores palatine legions + Germaniciani Seniores & Tertia Iulia Alpina comital legions from Italia Annonaria, are to amass at Lugdunum in preparation for Emperor Theodosius' campaign against the Alamanni.

(OOC: If Oz wishes to alter or nullify this order, I suppose he should be able to, since I don't actually know how many troops or which ones he wanted for this campaign )

ETA: Too tired to calculate it, but since 1 prov = 1 hour, they should be done by about 8:00 AM EST tomorrow
