Something clicked in my head as I read that, for I feel I may have gotten closer to the terrible truth behind the Roman invasions of Barbaroi...

Polybius also wrote that the Celts had very poor steel and that their swords could bend easily in the battlefield... in contradiction with archeological findings. There is no reason to believe that La Tene swords were worse than the Roman ones. Don't forget that Polybius is a greek political prisoner in Rome and that he wasn't contemporary of the events he has described. He has probably never put a foot in any celtic territories.

Wool and cloth in general are already a good armour. It is historically attested and tested by HEMA practitioners. XVIIIth century testimonies are quite clear about uniforms and cuts. Piercing is already more difficult to stop but still possible. Fencing treatises are often using cape as a shield or tool to deflect or stop incoming blows.
Nontheless, it is not magic and of course a metal armour is better suited.

Being naked, while protecting from infections from cloth burried deep inside the wound, allow for deeper wounds, especially cuts.
It was not ment to be a practical thing, but more of a "in your face" thing.

I clearly admit that it is an adult mod that doesn't need to be censored by any kind of puritanism. On the other hand, proposing two possibilities is not censorship but management of sensiblities around the world.
Every cultures have not the same way of considering nudity, and some people are born and educated in other ways that I were. That you were.
And EB2 players are comming from a lot of parts of the world.

An alternative solution, without asking modders to create new meshes and textures and all, would be to replace the complete skin of the unit with the skin of an other unit. Levy Spearmen for instance. It would still ask modder's work but just a bit of scripting, not an entire creation of a full 3D object just for something that is not that important.

From my point of view, it is important that players confront their own conceptions.

From my point of view, too. But I have been educated that way.

Who am I to impose this concept ?

And you are talking to an atheistic anticlerical iconoclast, so i am with you all along :p

But I recognize that my point of view is not universal, and that diversity is possible.

Allowing the option is not forcing anything, but not allowing the option is.

Not that it is bad, but it is a fact

I haven't encountered them yet in my new campaign. Are they still totally hairless and pink down there? That bothered me more than their nakedness.

True that "hairy Gauls" need to live up to their reputation :p

I found this, I don't know if it is still compatible, if it helps, but it is something.

I'd rather they be largely unclothed than wearing something ridiculous like Zulu warrior gear and outfits from the 19th century. A medieval-period mod that shall go unnamed was slightly guilty of this lately, as I pointed this out elsewhere.

Same for the Kushites, who were at times rather light-dressed as well:
