EB Only Rarely Launches Succesfully

Having played a Seleucid campaign to perhaps 170-140 BC, the game has rapidly started to crash at start-up as of lately, to the point where it is extremely rare to be able to enter the start menu of Europa Barbarorum. It almost always crash during loading.

I am not sure what to search for via Google or in FAQ (and given the new horrible layout of this site, I'm no longer willing to search out subforums and threads). Does anyone happen to know of ways to solve this which does not involve reinstallation? (Growing tired of longer Total War campaigns dying by technical error, both in vanilla games and mods.)
