Timber (5% cheaper buildings, 25% cheaper professional ship hire, 15% cheaper professional ship upkeep) is the staple building material in Westeros. Buildings, tools, ships and weapons all rely on good timber for their creation. Control of good timber allows for all of these things to be made cheaper.

Flax (+2 Charisma for the Lord, +20% faster ships) is grown for use in the production of linen, an important cloth both in domestic and industrial uses, being used extensively for clothing, sewing, upholstry and sailcloth. Due to the great importance and prestige of the textile industries in this time, it allows superior ships to be built and elevates the Lord among mercantile circles.

Grain (+600 Land Militia points) is the staple food of Westeros, used to feed the throngs of smallfolk and to grace the feast tables of the aristocracy alike. Enjoying the control of such a valuable resource will grant the local Lord a greater capacity for fielding armies.

Default Re: Dawnforest, Seat of Artos Stark

In a small grove outside Winterfell two boys walked calmly through the woods, they were brothers, sons of Artos Stark the newly appointed Lord of the Dawnforest. Brandon the oldest was to take a boat the following fortnight to White Harbor to meet his bethroded. Benjen the younger of the two was to go with his father to Dawnforest. On the eve of Brandon's departure, his brother Benjen told him to come down to the local river with him, promising to show him a really cool fort that he made in the woods. Well, there was a fort… decorated with the skins and pelts of a ton of animals that Benjen had killed and skinned. The nearby river was littered with the bones and carcasses from after skinning the animals. The fort had frog skins, bird feathers, raccoon pelts and tails, squirrel fur and tails, and even the coat of a cat.

Naturally Brandon ran the heck out of there and told his parents. Incredulous of the news, their father would discover that this had been going on for some time, but none of the other people in Winterfell wanted to be the one to tell him that his kid was the local crazy. Apparently Benjen had routinely killed frogs and squirrels and would parade them around to the other kids, reportedly he had even tied a dead squirrel to a girl’s window. The repercussions of this was Artos deciding to send the lad away, though where too a challenging dilemma. After long deliberation it was decided to take up an offer made the previous year by Lord Bolton to foster the lad. So not long after Brandon sailed for White Harbor, Benjen would have his own escort to the Dreadfort.
