    Default House Royce of Runestone

    HOUSE ROYCE

    "We Remember"

An old noble house seated at the castle of Runestone, north of Gulltown and on the coast of the Narrow Sea. They are one of the most powerful bannermen of House Arryn and predate House Arryn's rule of the Vale, being descended from the First Men who first ruled the region. Before the Andal Invasion, the Royces were one of several houses that claimed Kingship in the Vale, taking the title of the Bronze King and wearing the Runic Crown. The Bronze Kings were the last of the First Men to be defeated by the Andals in the Vale, but survived their defeat and rebuilt themselves once more into a powerful and influential house, noted for their loyalty to House Arryn.
House Royce has a large collection of suits of armor inscribed with runes that supposedly protect the wearer from injury; although a distressingly large number of Royces have died wearing them. The sigil of the House consists of black iron studs on a field of bronze, bordered with ancient runes.

TradeFruits (+2 Survival to all family, +2 Charisma to the Lord +400 Land Militia Points.) are a luxury resource, promising to turn any meal into a far more appetising feast. Access to such healthy and varied foodstuffs comes with a variety of benefits.

Grain (+1,800 Land Militia points) is the staple food of Westeros, used to feed the throngs of smallfolk and to grace the feast tables of the aristocracy alike. Enjoying the control of such a valuable resource will grant the local Lord a greater capacity for fielding armies.

Flax (+2 Charisma for the Lord, +20% faster ships, 5% hire and upkeep reduction on professional land troops) is grown for use in the production of linen, an important cloth both in domestic and industrial uses, being used extensively for clothing, sewing, upholstry and sailcloth. Due to the great importance and prestige of the textile industries in this time, it allows superior ships to be built and elevates the Lord among mercantile circles.

Base Metals (20% cheaper professional infantry hire, 10% cheaper professional infantry upkeep) represent valuable base minerals mined from the earth. Ores extracted include Iron, used for making steel, Copper, used in making all manner of tools and decoration, and Lead, used in piping and roofing. Access to these resources makes equipping and maintaining a Lord's own forces easier, as he has the capacity to supply his own resources to the blacksmiths.

Aegon was now a knight sworn to House Royce, or at least that's how he understood things. He would serve in the Vale at the pleasure of the Royces and the Arryns, he supposed. He sought out his liege lord one afternoon, requesting to be made aware of his duties.

He would find him at the practice grounds coaching his younger cousins in the art of swordplay. Noticing Aegon he sends the boys off to spar with each other. "Hello Aegon, have you been adjusting well to the Vale?"

"It has been an adjustment, especially in terms of elevation." Even climbing stairs had been difficult for days "I am ready to begin my service, however. You made mention og these clansmen before. What sort of threat do they pose?"

holding a look of slight frustration "That is yet to be known, in the past they have launched regular raids upon the Lords of the Vale and been a general nuisance, but as of late there is been little activity. I do not know what they are planning, but intend to find out. Lord Royce Looks over Aegon now sizing the man up "My brother Osmund is riding north to the Eyrie to rendezvous with Ser Hugh Arryn, and together they hope to discover what is afoot with the clans. You will serve under Osmund as a knight of Runestone, do well in this task and you may rise quickly in my service."

"Good, I haven't been in a proper fight since I was a squire." He replied "I look forward to testing the mettle of these so called clansmen."
