Icon10 (Tiny question) How to get this unit? (Ptolemaic Empire)

    Hi all

How do I recruit the green phalanxes playing as Ptolemaic Empire? (I like them visually)

They are called "Ptolemaic kleruchoi-katoikoi phalangites".

Here is an image of the unit:
    https://drive.google.com/open?id=1bI...IOAXZm39p4lLiK

You start with 4 or 5 of them in the campaign, but havn't been able to recruit any more... ??

    Thanks!

I assume you are playing RS 3.1.....In Alexandria build Supply of Army Rations > Ptolemaic Army Base...In Memphis build Regional Focus > Fortified Region > Mineral Import Facility > Weapons Metal Import > Supply of army Rations > Ptolemaic Militia Facility > Ptolemaic Army Base, iirc follow this process for all "Home" settlements, you have to reach 6000 population in any settlements to start and you have to build the Governors Palace first

Mainly research, trial & error my friend, there is much to learn in this fantastic mod(the best for Rome 1 imo) it's a similar procedure for each faction to attain elite units, you may find some interesting info here http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...s-amp-Tips-FAQ and even here http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...ns-amp-answers. If you need any more help drop me line and I will do my best to answer any questions you have. I'm playing Athens as a Let's Play atm, you can check it out on my youtube channel if you like, I'm not that great a Let's Player/youtuber but I enjoy it, the link is in my signature below.

Thank you very much, it worked, the green phalanxes come marching in..!
Yes I just installed 3.1 on my 2010 IMac (with upgraded ram and ssd), RSIII runs like a dream. And it's a huge screen, and I have surround sound as well. It's a-m-a-z-i-n-g.
Back in 2005 I never thought Rome (played on a tiny, boxy monitor ) would end up offering such an experience as RSIII does now.
I always loved EB, but now RS is opening up to me. This mod is harder I think, but more rewarding, and it's insanely good looking.. I'm very happy......

Thanks, I will use those links. Maybe one day I will play as the Romani, and this Ptolemaic Empire playthrough will be a good obstacle course to learn things.

@hrolphi: No problem, I'm glad I could help, seems like you are having an epic experience with your system, continue to enjoy and like I said, if you have any questions drop me a line and I will answer where I can

PS. If you want it to play similar immersion to EB try the 1-turn campaign if you are not already, it is slower paced, better strategically and have less but more meaningful battles

Oh great. Well I actually enjoy the frenzy of armies frem the seleucids. I haven't been able to push past Jerusalem going north. It will change.

1 turn campaign only exists for the romans?

There is a tab with 1-turn campaign in the Launcher interface which will bring you to the vanilla type faction choice loading screen, Rome 1-turn is in this tab too(it's mod-foldered on it's own), also if you want there is a swap faction tab which gives you 6 more faction choices(3 are 1-turn and 3 are 0-turn) or in multi player & battles tab if you want Play_Athens

OK thanks. It's a little different on mac because thee is not that launcher I think. But I figured it out.
I'll probably be back with more questions.

OK, I have another question, this one might be too specific though.

I don't want to cheat, but with this thing I do want to cheat a little:
Ptolemaic Empire is who I am playing as, but Armenia, my ally, is dying. I would like them to continue to be alive and well, also for historical reasons. I can see them losing cities when I toggle the FOW off (Ok, that is cheating as well ).
I tried to use force diplomacy. My plan was to get some regions off of the Seleucids and then force gift them back to Armenia.
But force diplomacy doesn't work for me at all.
I swear I am doing exactly as the readme in the _IMPORTANT_STUFF folder says. Also, what I am trying to force the seleucids to do, is something they CAN do (ie. give me some regions they have, so I can give them to Armenia, and I tried to demand just 100 denarii, and map information, with the same readme guide. Those things don't work either)

Do I need to install something? Shouldn't it be working by default?

    What the readme says:
    1. Press Esc
    2. Go to Game Options
    3. Tick the box for "Reset Advisor" and continue back to the campaign map.
    4. Engage the diplomacy window with another faction via a diplomat.
    5. Click the "?" in the top right hand corner of the diplomacy window
    6. The advisor will appear. Click "show me" and then click the advisor's face to make it go away.
    7. Select the offers/demands as required.
    8. Offer these to the AI faction. It will accept them.

Edit: I have also been googling this, but the steps from the readme and similar things is all I get.
Edit2: Or maybe there is some other way I can save Armenia? Would giving them money work do you think?

Hi laddie, I rarely use it but it definitely works, no need for steps 1/2/3 just engage your diplomat - make offer of city +money to take it(5,000d should be plenty) - click on"?" - click on "show me" - dismiss adviser - conclude offer and you should be good to go, btw it often doesn't work if it's an unreasonable offer. Offering a money gift can help save them but it would perhaps have to be a large sum(50 - 100,000+) and follow-up gifts(10 - 15,000d every 8/10 turns until you have had enough lol) to make a difference I would think in your instance.

Yeah it's my feeling too that the AI needs considerable amounts of money to progress. No matter, I can just use the console command.
I want certain factions to thrive, can't have greeks all over!

Oh it worked, thanks mate!! Let's gift some cities..
Power to the armenians and the parthians!

    Until next time

Hi RS people, I'm back with another breathtaking question.
Playing as the Ptolemies, how do I get the roman inspired units? I am thinking of Machairaphoroi in particular (I don't know if there are others..)
    Thanks!

You already have access to Thureophorai in Alexandria, and if you build Supply of Army Rations, this has a hidden resource which is the Ptolemaic Army Base, and in turn will give you Ptolemaic Elite Army Base. Now you can recruit the Epilektoi Thorakitai, Basilikoi Peltastai, Machairaphoroi, Epilektoi Machairaphoroi, Epilektoi Basilikon Agema Spearmen, Scorpions, Stone Throwing Balistas & 3 new Cavalry units. If you want the complete rundown of the build tree it goes something like this(basically it's the same for all factions but will have different terminology, there are also small variations depending on the Faction, region and/or settlement) I will use Lysimacheia as the example because it begins with a very small population and you start from scratch. Adapt this construction process depending on population and what buildings you start with in any given settlement.

Client State > pop to 2000 > Governors Villa > Greek Colony > Regional Focus > pop to 6000 > Governors Palace > Mineral Import > Weapons Metal Import(gives hidden resource of the Ptolemaic Militia Training & Blacksmiths but not needed if Iron gold etc in region) > Fortified Region > Supply of Army Rations > Ptolemaic Army Base > Ptolemaic Elite Army Base. Read the descriptions on the build panels and it should help you understand how it works. It took me many many hours of playing, using trial & error before I sussed the build chain out and as I have done all the work for you, a rep ofc will be appreciated

You're welcome laddie, I've become a bit of a "Surrectumaniac" as I've loved this mod since I discovered it a couple of years ago, many TW players often don't realize just how immersible it is...& I'm still learning...thank's for the rep

PS: If your interested you can always checkout my RS III Let's Play as Pergamon https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...f-LcNYDelOQc6W or here http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...rgamon(1-turn)

PPS: do you know there is also a submod for RSII called When Worlds Collide? it's Hellenistic themed, set during the 1st Punic War and is also very good http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...light-Released I did a lot of extensive testing for leoni the developer on this submod

Yes I am slowly starting to peer into the deep depths of Roma Surrectum. It's wonderful.
I view your videos from time to time, when I need me some modded total war and it's urgent. They are good vids.
That submod looks intense Very well crafted! Didn't know about it.. I might try it some day...

About submods and tweaks for RSIII, are there some interesting things out there do you think? I see a lot of stuff in the _IMPORTANT_STUFF folder for example.
I'm not really interested in faster battles or changes like more turns per year and those, but I would like a good formations submod, which I have never tried before.
    Sinuhet's is good?

Alright, I am using BI for my RSIII game.
You install by just replacing the .txt file?
Do you know some differences between Athenogoras, Darths, SPQR9 and Sinuhets formations?

sinuhet's is the most challenging would be the best way to describe the difference imo, especially with large to full stack battles and when using the ALX.exe as Searry mentioned
