Thread: Showing the whole map?

    Default Showing the whole map?

Heya, I wonder what I have to change to make the amrica map visible since the very start of the campaign (not having to discover it).

I tried putting the event "world is round" on "0", but that didn't help.
I put London in Brazil, and it's there, but notshowing on the minimap, you see that red square showing where you are, but it's all on the left, thus behind the map's frame.

Right now I have no more ideas...

    Do you?????

Change Map_Fog.TGA and make it all white.

Heheh lol errrr..... well it doesn't work... !!!

In fact, the left part of the map's frame is still there on the minimap...

Mmm... is there a file where written what is needed to dicover the whole map? So I can change it to just a port... or nothing...?

    In campaign_script txt change this:

    ; ---------------------
    ; start up

    freeze_faction_ai aztecs

    ;----------------------

    To this:

    ; ---------------------
    ; start up

    freeze_faction_ai aztecs

    if I_TurnNumber < 999
    restrict_strat_radar false
    end_if

    ;----------------------

Damn it having misread the post and thought that it was just the big map.

Anyway as IceTorque said its scripted. Although you could simply change it to

    ; ---------------------
    ; start up

    freeze_faction_ai aztecs
    restrict_strat_radar false

Not sure why a counter is needed

Its referred to again later on so you could comment that part out as its pointless now.

    ; ;-- World is round --
    ; monitor_event EventCounter EventCounterType world_is_round
    ; and EventCounter > 0
    ;
    ; ; unhide America
    ; restrict_strat_radar false
    ; terminate_monitor
    ; end_monitor

Alas, for some reason it's not working. (did remove the .rwm) .... :hmmm:

Mmm... strange because I guess "restrict_strat_radar false" is the line that unhides the map, no?
I tried removing everything related to the americas, having everything at startup... nothing...
I fiddled with the events.txt but no use...

    grr... what am I missing?

This time it should work. I double checked before I posted yesterday. The TGA file allows the big map to be viewed and changing this script file made the radar map fully viewable.

You aren't updating the wrong files in the wrong directories are you.. only ask because that's what I was doing to begin with.

Also you haven't edited the descr_strat.txt file so that it doesn't run the script have you? Its right at the end of that file.

I have these lines at the end of my decr_strats.txt file:

    script
    campaign_script.txt

and I'm almost sure I did everything like you said... Well I attached the file here... if you ever have time to check it.... or perhaps you could put up yours, if it doesn't work it's something elsewhere....

As you see here london is in america, but not on the minimap :hmmm:

Well I just retested. I'll put the images up shortly but no problem.

Can you also post your bat file if you use one and your config file?

Note this time I amended the script by copying the line out of your script into the same spot. I also didn't delete the RWM file for either test and it works fine.

    changing the Script file gives

and changing the FOF TGA gives

In which folder are you making these changes? In the original world folder in the data path or are you making them in your modfolder/data path? With your bat file and config file. They should be in your mod folder. So just checking.

I make all changes in the modfolder/data etc folders.

The bat and cfg are in the Medieval II Total War main folder, if I put them into my Medieval2/modfolder it doesn't start.

Note that every change I made untill now is working, also in the cfg file.

Not really sure what else to suggest. I switched my setup to use the bat file with the IO.File_First command in it (I wasn't sure that would work) and I copied in the posted script file just in case but they all worked fine. I just can't get it to not work.:hmmm:

    ...
Something might have been messed up somewhere with all those mods I downloaded and files I fiddled with...

Well, mate, you sure have earned your rep and your place in the game credits!

Now.... If you ever ever ever come across a sulution for this problem.... but I really don't want to abuse, it's just if you know it heh!

Anyway, thanks a lot for your help!!

    Thanks.

So are you saying there is a problem creating new radar maps? I haven't done so yet for my amended map as I'm still building it. They are in the imperial campaign folder.

    Thanks a lot again!

Hi, I tried it on my map and didn't have any problems. This is just using a mod folder set up. I basically just pasted in to the original sizes. if I kept the same proportions and therefore had to reduce the width you could see the actual campaign map through it. Anyway this is just to show it working.
