Chapter I.
Year 222 BC
Hot and nervous morning, westward of Siga, the sleepy costal city in west Africa. Roman army (exercitvs) has landed after short sail from Mastia (south Hispania) on African coast to shift the war operations between S.P.Q.R. and Carthaginian Republic to Punic homeland. Young Roman general, Manivs Cornelivs Scipio, who led his men during whole hispanian campaign against Carthaginiens was sitting and eating fresh olives and some bread for breakfast while a young man on horse was arrived with alarming news... they Punic bastards were spotten on marching here!
Our reconaissance reported elite phalangitai and elephants!! Get ready for fighting, form the battle line !!!!
Manivs Cornelivs Scipio formed his three roman legions and two socii alae into unusual four line formation with celtic cavalry on right flank.
Carthaginians charged with elephants against Roman center and the troubles started...
Romans fighted well especialy on left flank but were continuously charging by Punic long-spear elite phalangitai and the battle were lost.. oh dear..
Manivs Cornelivs Scipio left the battlefield last with a few of his friends after this bloody day. This was the worst battle since Pyrrhic wars before 55 years.
Survivals has saved their lifes on Roman fleet on coast.
Fortunately Gods gave Romans a little victory - Carthaginian general Amilkas died in battle! What awaits his army now?
Rest of men has created one 3/4 strenght legion and sail westward to join general Scipio Asina's forces (another roman legion and socii ala) in Mauretania Tingitana. General Scipio Asina has recruited two bands of Numidian skirmishers and two bands of Mauretanian skirmishers in Lixus and Sala. Both generals met together in Mauretanian hills and headed east to fight victorious Carthaginian army. Finally the battle between Manivs Cornelivs Scipio's new army consisted of two roman legions, socii alae and African skirmishers (2200 men) engaged advancing enemy (1900 men without noble leader - after the death of Amilkas)... tactical superiority on Manivs Cornelivs Scipio side and Numidian "elephantkillers" resulted into great Roman victory... all Carthaginian elite phalangitai, elephants and sacred band cavalry were beaten.
Roman scout reported two another huge enemy armies lead by Carthaginian nobles far east near city Ippone... but for now the road to city Siga were free. Manivs Cornelivs Scipio received a good news from Rome - three raw recruited legions were just boarding in Capua harbor...
