Default Good strategy games for average non-gaming computers?

I want to know your opinion about good strategy games for today's average computers (not Total War games). I am more interested to know about some historically based games, any period of history. Would be ideal if those games are compatible with Windows 10 64 bits. I recently purchased through Steam Ultimate General: Civil War and Ultimate General: Gettysburg. I wish there were more games like those...

You can always play the Europa Universal games if you want something that covers the entire world.
If you want something more concentrated in Europe the Crusader Kings game.

If you are talking about real time strategy games though where you controll your units you can
check out the Age of Empire games series. Or Companies of Heroes.
And some I found on steam:

I cannot recommend Imperialism II enough. It's basically the father of total war only with tactical turn based battles instead of the real time blob fests of total war. You can get it very cheap on GoG.

As well as Europa Universalis and Crusader Kings previously mentioned there's there's Victoria 2, Darkest Hour and Hearts of Iron 3

EU Rome, Sengoku and March of Eagles are less popular/succesful titles worth a look

EU Rome is the only grand strategy game that allows you to enslave others though.

Crusader Kings II has incredible potential if you want to completely screw things up for everyone, or just go for plain absurd circumstances. It can pretty much be considered a geopolitical sandbox game.

Get Victoria 1 Revolutions and HOI2/Darkest Hour and enjoy a campaign that stretches from 1836 to 1964

Both have been mentioned, but Hearts of Iron 2 and Civilization III are the games that I have installed on my poor old tablet. Assuming you have a keyboard to go along with it of course. In HoI2s case its imperative to change unit types to counters though, otherwise its 12-year old nature will be impossible to ignore.

Empire: dawn of the modern world is one I can recommend.
It includes the medieval , gunpowder and imperial age which has England, France, Korea and China playable.
And WW1 and WW2 which has France, Britain, USA, Russia and Germany playable.

Might not seem like many factions or epochs, but the armies are completely unique. They don't share a single unit. Even villagers look different for everyone.
The game also has three campaigns which are pretty historical in nature and they have great variety in gameplay through the missions.
