What the Byzantine Empire managed, though, was to survive for 1000 years. No other Empire managed to do that. The atheist Soviet Union, for example did not even last 100 years.
Bah, Greece is strong enough so that the "evil ottoman" cannot threaten it. Turkey says Greeks hold 10 "of their islands", yet I don't see them coming to get them. Turkey knows that attacking Greece would be a deadly mistake, for many reasons, which are not really relevant to discuss here. The only thing they can do (by their own admission) is to attempt to recite the Koran in Agia Sofia. Well, let them do so. The only thing that may happen from this, is harm the "good" relations they have with Russia. And I say "good" because I believe Putin is only supporting Turkey now in order to make it collapse in the (near) future. He supported Erdogan in the coup, because he knew that Erdogan is the worst thing that has even happened to Turkey, and apparently he wants it to continue.
In the mean time, such actions as the reading of the Koran in Agia Sofia offers opportunity to further defame Turkey. It also offers the excuse to restrict some of the rights of muslims in Europe generally (in Greece more specifically). One of the reasons of this thread is to see where my fellow Greeks stand in this proposal.
