Soft Crash during Campaign Naval Battles

Playing a new Europe Campaign as Britain, the game softlocks (the game just "pauses", I can move the camera and the music keeps playing but I can't do anything with the game, not even bring up the pause menu, only Alt+F4 to close it). It seems to always happen during boarding actions. I don't know what to do to fix it, anyone have any clue?

Sometimes I have the same issue myself when playing NTC (vanilla mode with NTC support), so I think this is an engine bug similiar to the well known sound bug.
