Into the Trenches

Granted I know nothing of coding, but would it be too difficult to mod the vanilla trench to also appear behind the unit as well and have the trench wide enough to actually have the whole formation covered by the trench? I'm sure I'm not the only one who's thought of this. If it is impossible to pull off, could someone offer me a relatively simple explanation why?

you have to position them yourself /can`t be saved
there`s maps with trench systems / hallow scraps in the ground/ low walls?
