    Penultimate Round

Henry Percy, Earl of Northumberland vs John Hastings, Earl of Pembroke

Pembroke only requires one pass to defeat the Earl of Northumberland, unseating him with a fine strike upon his shield and claiming his place in the final round.

John FitzAlan, Earl of Shrewsbury vs Edward, Duke of York

Shrewsbury, likewise, does not make this contest a long one. It takes him merely two tilts to unhorse the Duke of York, claiming a place in the final with a deft performance.

    Final Round:

John FitzAlan, Earl of Shrewsbury vs John Hastings, Earl of Pembroke

The two, now well known and loved by the crowds, take their place for the final joust. All are expecting a well matched contest, for these two men have obliterated all before them with speed and skill with the lance, However, it ended just as quickly as the rest. In the first tilt, a deft thrust from Shrewsbury landed squarely upon Pembroke's shield; the lance shattered, and Pembroke was unhorsed. It was a nigh flawless pass, and the Earl of Shrewsbury thus claims victory, and the adulation of the crowds. He and the defeated Pembroke are invited up to the royal dais to claim their prize.

(Shrewsbury gains +2 personal combat, Pembroke gains +1.)

Edward walked away, what an idiot he thought to himself. As if I can be blamed for the accident? Stupid Courtenays.

Sometime later: As Edward recovered from being unseated by the Earl of Shrewsbury he saw the Earl approaching. "Fine joust" he remarked. Being a little out of breath. "You deserve to win the competition now." Edward was not particular bitter about his loss, it could've been worse. He could've lost to one of those Courtenay scum, a Neville or even a Holland(again).

While the duke had removed his armor he went on to watch the tilt of his brother in law. Seeing he lost too Edward grinned a little remembering their earlier conversation. They had the same amount of luck again. He'd rather had his brother in law win if he couldn't but the hotspur was not in his prime today it would seem.

It came as a great surprise for Lord Hastings who had placed second in the jousting. After all, he was hardly a warrior, compared to those he fought in the joust. It came as an even bigger surprise that he managed to defeat Lord Percy, the Earl Marshal and Lord Warden of the Scottish Marches. A man whose skill outrivaled his by leagues, yet all Hastings could think of, as he approached the King, was that his fortune was merely luck. That or by God's divine grace.

I don't like Exeter, but by God, he really outdid himself on that one - I'm sure you'll be glad to know that any child you bear to young Richard here will be completely unrelated to the true line of House York...."
Did she honestly believe she could command Maltravers, the man who had insulted King Richard to his face, in front of Parliament and in Parlay? She truly was foolish.
A child?, what an idiot. I am a woman, a woman with a son of Royal blood, Lord Shrewsbury. Elizabeth said finding the man lacking completely in manners, barbarian and a savage she supposed he is. And i don't need to hear your lies, in fact it is an insult to my husband, now begone, Lord Shrewsbury. she said, further ignoring the man while escorting Cambridge to his tent.

In the tent where Richard's equipment was stored, the Duke of york and his wife were looking over Richard while Latimer went on her rant. Margaret frowned at her and remained standing. She didn't speak but did briefly search for eye contact with Edward. Edward, after analyzing his wife's face looked over at his sister in law with a stern face, was this little woman actually commanding his wife, a Duchess around? Preposterous he thought to himself and he too remained standing, relocating his gaze to his brother. The Idiot, the duke thought. After some moments of silence he looked Elizabeth strait in the eye and dryly noted. "I'm not sure you know, but the other men in this room are the physicians..."
Now will you leave us alone for some time, Lord York? She asked to the man, she didn't even pay attention to the Percy woman. I wish to talk to your brother in private, Lord York. she would have to speak about the insults of Shrewsbury with her husband

Shrewsbury laughed. "And what are you going to do? Have your poor bastard challenge me to a duel? In case you haven't noticed, but he came out somewhat worse for going up against me." A slight flash of annoyance. She'd command him? "Begone from my sight, whore. I tire of your ignorance." Perhaps Exeter would cuckold Cambridge too...

Lady Latimer didn't hear Shrewsbury ranting as she had already left with Cambridge to his tent, what an idiot she thought.

Edward nodded at Margaret and they both left not saying a word. Edward did frown though, Richard was still passed out and Baroness latimer wished to speak to him... It was not his concern. If she wanted to talk to a man laying there passed out he would leave her too it.

Wake up, Lord husband. Elizabeth said so while emptying a bucket of water over his head to awake him, an effective way of doing so.

She'd need to inform her husband about Shrewsbury foolishness. We have just been gravely insulted by a certain savage. She said hitting her husband on the cheeks to awake him faster.

Richard remained unresponsive and the attending physicians looked on in awe.. Was this woman really that insane? One of the physicians quietly said Richard was in a coma...

The Countess orders Richard to be transported to his home in London with a carriage once he awakes from his coma, for now rest will do.

As Pembroke (and presumably, Shrewsbury) approached the royal dais, they were greeted with the King's slow applause.

"Well done. A fine contest, if one discounts all the bloodshed."
Henry lips curled up into a small smirk. "You've earned your prize. To Pembroke, two thousand pounds. To the victor, Shrewsbury, five thousand."

Shrewsbury bowed graciously - delighted with himself. His debts fully paid off, and real riches now attained through skill and violence. "My thanks for your generosity, Sire."

OOC: We get the ransoms too?

Worcester and Buckingham are shown to the royal seat, at the head of the table where the feats had been laid out for the post-tournament celebrations.

"Ah, my lords. What may I do for you?"
    Asked Henry, quaffing some mead.

"My king, I come regarding matters of marriage"

    Said Worcester.

"I've taken under my wing poor John Nevill, who was my nephew until my brother Westmoreland decided to disown him. Still, he has my blood and I must provide for him"

Thomas intended to look and sound like a caring uncle.

"There is a way I can help my nephew: by marrying him well. But, sire, I will need your support. Both my Lord of Buckingham have come to beseech your Grace's recommendation on this matter. Lady Lisle is a fair match for my good nephew and would provide him with lands on his own, but Lord Berkeley might not be too prone, unless the deal is sweetened"

"Well, you may have my support, lord Worcester."

Said the King, a little concerned at Westmorland's alleged treatment of his own flesh and blood.

"Lady Lisle would surely be a good match for your young nephew, and you may bear Lord Berkeley my approval."

Lord Hastings was quite pleased with the money. It would certainly help with future dowries to come.

    Thank you, Your Majesty.

I do view it as a good match as well, Your Majesty. A good bride and lands will certainly ensure that John Nevill can thrive in this beloved Kingdom of ours. Certainly it will ensure that Lord Worcester's nephew does not become a penniless and landless Lord from such a noble household.
