"Jedburgh, then, I suppose." Roger rose as well, just running some of the river water through his hair to settle it.

Re: A Hunt in the North
Once word is agreed upon, Mortimer and Percy depart for Jedburgh, hoping to attack a Scottish caravan or another homestead. This time, they decide to attack the same target. When the raid is performed, they will remove themselves to a defensible and hidden position to keep their presence masked from any possible armed response.
Once the raid is performed, the two forces will move for Bellingham, removing themselves from Scottish lands and back to Alnwick from there.
(So to clarify, Mortimer and Percy move 1 province over and attack. Then move one province south and back to Alnwick after the 6 hour waiting period.

Re: A Hunt in the North
They attack an Armstrong homestead, only a few miles from Jedburgh itself. Aware of the English presence in the area, they are relatively well prepared, forming ad hoc battle lines. Thirty two of Mortimer and Percy's men fall in the combat, and a few riders escape to Jedburgh to inform the local lord that this raid was done on behalf of the Percies of Alnwick, with some Scots recognising the faded lion of the Earls of Northumberland on a dead man's armour. However, it proves lucrative, and they carry away two hundred and fifty pound's worth (or thereabouts) of loot. They will be forced to leave quickly, however, lest the local lords organise a response.

After the battle, Percy sends out scouts to determine where the enemy response is gathering. Once this is known, Harry could make a decision on what to do.

Percy's riders determine that the local powers that be are assembling a force to protect against what they assume they shall be an imminent attack on Jedburgh. These scouts are chased off by the Scottish reivers, but they assume that these men aren't moving from the town any time soon.

Harry goes with the original plan and has his troops, along with Mortimer's, fall back into Bellingham with what they gained and return to Alnwick.

As they reach Alnwick, weighed down with loot and livestock, Roger rides alongside his brother-in-law, the castle in sight.
"I can stay a few nights more, if you like, brother mine," Mortimer told Percy, "But Ulster awaits me."

Re: A Hunt in the North
I get it, Mortimer, duty calls. If you ever are back in England and want to raid the North again, you are welcomed to come to Alnwick anytime.
Percy grins at Mortimer, yet his mind was occupied on when the Scots would surely raid back. He needed to be prepared for this.
In the end, the loot gained from the last raid, two hundred and fifty in total, is split between Mortimer and Percy. Harry was grateful to have his brother-in-law along and hoped they could raid again sometime.

"There will be reprisal, won't there?" March asked, seeming to consider the consequences quite personally. "Though it means not much, from so far a ways, I'd come to your aid, brother Percy, if ever you needed it. Violence is always returned with violence."

Nothing at least a Percy can't handle.
Harry was grateful for Mortimer's words, but the Lord Warden felt he could handle it.

After staying a couple of nights, visiting with his in-law, his sister, and his nephews and nieces, Roger Mortimer departed Alnwick for the west, seeking passage to Ulster.

Re: A Hunt in the North
There's reports of a raiding party, not far from Alnwick. Apparently, they burned down the homestead of one of the Percy tenants, doing a hundred pounds worth of damage.
A man arrives at the fortress of the Percy family to confirm the reports, a survivor. This was definitely the Armstrongs, in retaliation for the attack near Jedburgh.

Percy brings the survivor in, ordering his servants to get him food and water. In the mean time, scouts are sent to the homestead that was burned down and the nearby area to find the raiding force.

Re: A Hunt in the North
The scouts find that the Armstrongs have left the homestead and returned north, and have likely crossed back into Scotland by now.

Harry would be speaking with patrol leaders when the tenant arrived. Lord Northumberland would give him his undivided attention.
I am sorry your lands were devastated in such a way. How much were the damages?

"Hundred pounds, m'lord." Replied the tenant, who held the farmstead in Percy's name. He was portly and red-faced, and walked with a waddle, which made it all the more remarkable he had escaped with his life.
