Thread: Crash when loading new campaign

Default Crash when loading new campaign

I followed the install instructions, updated to 2.6 but the game still crashes when loading a new campaign. I´m using the steam version of rome gold and using the tw.exe option on the launcher. I´m close to just giving up and play vanilla rome.

RS only works on steam with the Alexander expansion. Alternatively buy the physical copy of Anthology which is relatively cheap nowadays and you can use all three exe's. Are you not aware of RS III + 3.1 submod which give an improved experience of playing the mod? You can always check out my YT channel (link in the signature below) where I am playing as Athens if you want to see how it looks.

I knew about RS III and 3.1 but couldnt find the donwload link in the forums. Am I still able to play with rome ( "unified" rome not eastern and western empires) in Alexander or am i stuck with the factions from Alexander?

You install Roma Surrectum into your Alexander expansion, the AlX exe will run the mod files not the expansion files, you will have all the factions from RS not Alexander, no offence but are you sure you know what you are doing?
here is the download and instruction links for RS 2.6 and III http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...-Beta-Released! and https://mega.nz/#!WQE2WK7L!4lNfydq3y...r3JriHSnFPidtQ for the 3.1 patch

No worries, I hope you manage to get it working. There are other little changes you can do to make it run smoother. If you want any info on them I will be happy to help, good luck.

Does the mod fix the abysmal frame rate in the world map? I tried setting the affinity of romevanilla to cpu 0 and cpu 1 to try and fix it but nothing happened. The only significant boost i saw was when i truned off shadows and got maybe a 10%-15% gain in fps in parts that had fog of war, but in the Italian Peninsula it droped to 10 fps like it had an anvil tied to its ankles. Runing Win 10 by the way, if the helps in any way.

In this folder: ....\data\_IMPORTANT_STUFF\Alternate_Strat_Trees <You will find a 'reduced lag' folder. Copy and paste into your RTW directory\data >this should help quite a lot.

The game didnt crash during loading so thats a plus. However the frame rate still tanks in zones whitout fog of war. The .dll solution i already knew about but didnt want to use it because it eliminates arrow and projectiles, if i´m not mistaken.

Guess i have to go without fire projectiles, then.

Are the romans supposed to start with GODDAMN HANIBAL OF CARTHAGE with full stack and a second near full stack army near Rome? And any tips for Sparta? I cant conquer any city with the small army they start with when the other rebel cities have full stack garrisons and they start bleding money?

Aye it will if you have steam, like I have already said if you have a physical copy of Anthology or Rome Gold + Alex expansion you can use all 3 exe's. The ALX exe is arguably the better AI but BI gives you shield wall, swimming units and more naval invasions.

The answer to your Hannibal question is yes but if you are savvy you can work around the ambush easily, now that you know it's there With Sparta you have to start slowly and build your infrastructure while defending your territory. In the early game, leave Agesipolis in Sparte(for economical reasons), take 3 generals 2 cav and most of your infantry + 2 archer units to easily capture Argos 1st turn, then take all your army out put a couple of slinger units in as garrison and approach Olympia, take it 2nd turn, there you go that's you started. I always play on h/vh difficulty but if you are uncertain test run on m/m, you will still find it a reasonable challenge
