Default Why would Chaos want to wipe out vampires?

Im a total noob to Warhammer lore. But from what ive gathered playing one campaign so far as Bretonnia, The Chaos are like Warhammer's version of the Wild Hunt that want to wipe all living things off the face of the Earth?(not sure what the planet is called) so that the end times can begin. So why would they want to wipe out the vampires who basically use the undead to attack the living, it seems like they would be natural allies. Do the vampires offend them someway as being unable to die or something?

Quite the opposite in fact, the undead keep the tasty souls the daemons and dark gods feast on chained to the physical world and stop them from going to the other side of the immaterium/afterlife where daemons can get at them if the god of Death doesn't safely collect them first.

Death is also anathema to the dark gods as well.

Khorne, God of rage and blood. Undead lack both.

Slaanesh, God of pleasure and excess. Corpses make poor bed-fellows.

Nurgle, God of rot and rebirth. The dead ensure there's no life left for his plagues and stop the natural cycle of birth and decay.

Tzeentch, God of magic and change. The dead desire nothing to change or move forward, everything remains stagnant.

The dark gods are alright with ending the world (there's more out there) but while it exists as a living, breathing thing it let's them have fun corrupting it and feasting on the souls and emotions it produces. Undead stops all that cold.

so in actuality, the Vampires are in fact the greater enemy to the Chaos gods, because they steal their souls from them?

Indeed.Think of it like little kids playing around with a shiny battery-operated toy. They play with it, damage it and eventually break it and move on to new toys all the while enjoying themselves. The undead are basically someone walking up to them, ripping the batteries out of the toy and leaving. Now it's a dull lifeless thing that gives the kids no fun or even the satisfaction of breaking it.

So undeath takes away their souls, emotions and any point in messing with a world where the only interesting living things are penned up like cattle for food and more slaves when they finally expire. (It's important to note Vlad basically wanted that fate for the Empire to defy chaos. Alot of people tend to get the mistaken impression that he wanted just the Empire with undead incharge instead of complete unlife that he actually wanted. The line "treats his humans better than the Empire nobles do" somehow skewed him into a beneficial figure instead of the eccentric beast that he actually was.)

It's also basically what sparked off the End Times, Nagash's rise and act of devouring the god of Death made him a legitimate threat to the order of the world and caused a massive upheaval in it's balance as he claimed the souls of the human dead and it caused the winds of his undeath magic available to even the most basic mage. The world corrupted so, the dark gods decided it was time to stop picking at the candy bowl and devour all of it's contents.

Thanks for the insight. That sounds pretty interesting to me, any chance you know which books this happens in? Im pretty interested in reading about the Vampire wars, and Vlad von Carstein or really any of them.

Vampire Wars is a must read for undead fans so good job on putting it on your radar.

I'd also recommend "the Red Duke" and very much "Runefang" which may not have vampires but hits the "undying hordes of ancient horrors" nail right on the head.

There's also the Time of legends series "Rise of Nagash" and "Genevieve". There's undead scattered throughout the other novels with "Gotrek and Felix" and "Witch Hunter" having some good encounters.

Good luck diving into the world of necromancy, praise Nagash!

Also the entire story of the End times is that the Vampires are servants of Nagash. And he wants to become a god - rival to the chaos gods.
