Will Pontos be getting any love in this overhaul? Their roster still seems kinda vanilla-ish compared to everybody around them atm.

Does the actual size of the pike make a difference in combat, or is it all hidden behind numbers? I am curious, because pikes die off when soldiers get near them and start sword duels.. will they reach the pikemen harder or is that just game engine stuff?
Looks amazing great work DEI TEAM!!!!
does the new update have any other changes to campaign because i cant wait for the new update i think i might just play 1.2 now and start a new campaign when this one is out, or is there mega campaign changes like improving the way ai acts or other stuff because i only ever play as Rome
Well, did you read the part of the preview about pike differences? ; P Yes, longer pikes will hold enemies at a longer distance but will be worse at killing enemies, especially those armoured. On the other hand, Bronze Shields might actually beat Basilikoi Peltastai due to reach advantage but...Basilikoi Peltastai will be much more usefull when used to attack heavy infantry head on and won't suffer as much due to being flanked (well, still a lot but not as much as longe pikes).
TheNewKing, yes, it will come with campaign fixes and changes

Its really comforting to see that DeI is still going forward even after all this time. Cant thank you guys enough for your perseverence in making Rome 2 much more enjoyable than it is without.
Been a while since I posted, and that I had time to play, and now I see that there is a big update in a few weeks, I cannot wait to get a new coop campaign going

BTW, concerning the Chalkaspides, is there a particular reason for their shields being painted?
I know usually Greeks painted their shields, but AFAIK the Argyaspides are the only other unit with a similar name and they were specificly noted to have silver-coated shields.
So wouldn´t the name Chalkaspides imply shields with a bronze coating too?
Or is there a specific reason why you´ve decided for colouring?

At least from professors Sekunda latest work it is emphasized that shields of Basilikoi Phalangitai were plain bronzem, which hints that they must have contrasted with other shields. Since Chalkaspides had rather large shields, it seems fitting that they would paint them as hoplites did (provided they had money for it). So in the end, there are no sources saying that they were not painted as there are no sources saying they were painted. Plus if you look at our shields, most of them are plain bronze, some only with partial painting (sun rays on the shield).

I could actually imagine the shield painting being a quirk particular to the Greeks.
Especially if they were family heirlooms!
If I remember correctly the Antigonids provided their soldiers at least with their shields and pikes,
and it seems to have been less well regarded, considering so many lost (or sold) their shields (and other equipment) they introduced fines for the issue.
Of course this is just speculation, but IMO it´s possible at least.
There are illustrations of painted shields from tombs, but these men usually look rather like guardsmen.
Maybe Hypaspists?

Can we expect another preview this weekend?

Exert from the book “Antigonos the One-Eyed and the creation of the Hellenistic State” page 310.
For the use by Antigonos of Median, Parthian, Lydian, and Phrygian cavalry, and of Lykians, Pamphylians, and pantodapoi in his phalanx, see, for example, Diod. XIX 29, 1-3. N.B., the phalanx is here (battle of Paraitakene in 316) made up 9,000 Greek mercenaries, 3,000 Lykians and Pamphylians, 8,000 pantodapoi, and 8,000 Macedonians, so that considerably more than a third of the phalanx was made up of Asian troops. That the pantodapoi were at least predominatly of oriental race is shown by the fact that the Macedonian and Greek mercenary troops are listed separately; hence the pantodapoi can only have been Asians.
From LacusCurtius:
Of the infantry, more than nine thousand mercenaries were placed first, next to them three thousand Lycians and Pamphylians, then more than eight thousand mixed troops in Macedonian equipment, and finally the nearly eight thousand Macedonians, whom Antipater had given him at the time when he was appointed regent of the kingdom.
