Re: IS has recaptured and destroyed parts of Palmyra
ISIS are quite literally Barbarians. Anyone who looks at the magnificence of cultures long dead and decides to destroy what they left behind are more culturally inept than the Neanderthal. Simple as that. Luckily no one will be around to remember them or care about them after much longer- they will be completely wiped from the earth and history unlike the civilizations (something they have no inkling of) whose remnants they wish to destroy.

Re: IS has recaptured and destroyed parts of Palmyra
It sucks what Daesh is doing to Palmyra, but it is not the first ancient ruin to be purposely destroyed by man, simply one of the more famous and recent ones. Even if future generations may not have a chance to explore and see the ruins for themselves, at least modern people have been able to photograph and study in detail what was once there. We have been extremely lucky with places like Palmyra and Pompeii and that's more than what we can say about many other historical sites. With the continued passing of time, even the Pyramids will one day crumble and fall (though they will more than likely outlast other ancient ruins, perhaps even humanity itself.)
