    I get these random crashes every once in a while, very rarely but it has happened enough over the years and just happened twice in 2 days so I am finally asking; anyone know what this is about? Or what file to look into?

    "Undeclared attack" sounds like allies going to war without first becoming neutral. (Pure speculation that.) If faction A (AI) is allied to faction B then faction A should not be able to do that (right?). Is it possible that faction A is not allied to B but B is allied to A in descr_strat? i.e. From A's point of view they are not allies but from B's they are. Would that create a scenario where A may attack B but really they shouldn't be able to? I don't know.

    Would you happen to know if protectorate_of needs an alliance the other way or what? I checked all the descr_strats for the kingdoms campaigns and a few submods and none except TATW even use protectorate_of for me to reference how it was done. Vanilla TATW doesn't have anything going the other way so I assume that is OK.

    I don't know. I thought that protectorate_of was for defining starting vassals and that it didn't work; surprised to see TATW using it. In game (vanilla TATW) the factions in question are allies (not vassals) which could be done via allied_with instead, so not sure what the point of protectorate_of is.

    Edit; protectorate_of works as far as I know. I only use it when one faction is much stronger than another since an alliance alone will not work, the much stronger faction will break it to attack eventually (from what I remember from long ago) unless I change the AI code to never do that, which I don't want to do for various gameplay reasons. I shall remove it though and test, that could potentially be the cause of this bug. Though from the log above it seems to have crashed on mongols' turn which doesn't use it in descr_strat, so if that is the cause than the AI made a protectorate happen during the game.


    Edit2; I loaded the game and checked and mongols, they have no vassals and are not a vassal. The factions that were coded to have it broke them in game (Mordor dies and goes horde in Fourth Age, the campaign I am testing, is why I assume). Some factions made vassals or became one in game.

    Made it to turn 300 in that same game with no crash so whatever is causing it doesn't always cause a crash if it did happen again. England's turn follows mongols so that supports the protectorate_of being the cause. Maybe they declared war on a vassal? That was why I used the code, to stop them from doing that.

    Edit; Unrelated question, anyone know if it is possible to have the game save with a script? Or change the auto save to something other than every turn?

    Do you mean use script to save the game? This works...

    call_object_shortcut strat_ui save_stratmap

    It shows the "game saved" message, automatically overwrites the Quicksave (which would be annoying if somebody had one that they wanted to keep), and probably won't work during turn end sequence only during the player's turn (?).

    I seem to recall that auto save can be turned off. A config setting?

    I am just keeping an eye on it while I do balance testing with AI vs AI campaigns. I am not too concerned about it since it is so rare and non-repeatable, it is literally the only bug now though so I am giving it a go.

    Is there a way to automatically close the save game succeeded message after quick saving? I tried 'end_game_scroll" and some others but nothing works for that specific button and I don't know how to simulate pressing 'enter' in a script. The game will not continue until the message has been closed.

    Edit; Quicksaving does work on the AI's turn as long as there is no battle happening, even so I would think it would just save right after as soon as it could. I don't even have to take control of a faction to save it, and when I load the save I don't have to give control to the AI.

    I was about to say "no". If that scroll's button had a UI element ID then it could be script-selected-and-clicked. But I can't see any such ID for this button.

    campaign_wait 1.0 -> it needs to wait until the save is completed because the "saved" scroll is not shown until then. How long to wait most probably depends on how big the save is. That was tested on a BareGeomod campaign in turn 1. Later turns, and big mods with large campaign_script and whatnot will have bigger saves. One second might not be long enough.

    monitor_event ShortcutTriggered ShortcutTriggered radar dec_scale -> just a way to test it, by hitting the F3 key.

    'quit' was the first thing I tried but the esc key doesn't do it, I didn't use those event monitors though.

    I got it working with;

    That works?? In my descr_shortcuts.txt deselect_all is assigned to the "card_manager" group, not "strat_ui". So it should be...

    call_object_shortcut card_manager deselect_all

    ...unless your descr_shortcuts.txt is different. Anyway, I tried both and both failed to close the saved message.

    There is no "deselect_all strat_ui" so I don't understand how your script is working.

    I don't get it either, it is not 100% consistent though. Sometimes the saved game message doesn't actually go away but the game continues with it there and even keeps saving when it is supposed to with the the message never going away. I tried the card_manager code and it seems to work the same. I'll probably end up trying one of your ways above when I care enough to, right now this will do for some AI vs AI campaign balance testing while I sleep.

    It seems to be dependent on when the save is made, or what monitor is used, or both. Having it quicksave and the end of slave turn or before the first factions turn makes the game keep going without needing to close it apparently. I'll look into it further. I have gotten a few versions to work so far.

    Edit; Any way to take/give control of a faction through the script? Getting kinda sick of typing the console cmd every time I test it.

    I tired that already, unless you mean with the brackets.


    I found the trigger in descr_faction_standing.txt but I don't know what it means yet.

    At least I know what file that trigger is in now. For now I just copy/pasted the code into a new text file in case the file itself bugged out. It happens with my strats and scripts every once in awhile, the game just doesn't read it right (not showing all factions usually) for some reason. It just happened with my script file a few days ago actually. I guess the files have so much crap in them that any large amount of changes at one time makes something wig out. No real clue though, I have only experienced it with this game.

    OK one more question for this thread, I am so lazy I made a script to auto speed up the AI in every scenario I could think of so I never have to press space again. If anyone wants to poke through it or give it a try I would like to know if I missed something or messed up or if I can accomplish this by closing the starting scroll. I suck at game scripts, I am too used to scripting programs that actually do what they are told not games that need to be compromised with!.

    I don't know what you're referring to regarding triggers.

    I added this script...

    ...and started a HotSeat (we are talking HotSeat right?) as england. Hitting F3 now toggles my control of them. If the england (AI) faction is busy at the time, e.g. their turn, then it doesn't work, same as it doesn't work if you type "control" into the console at that time.

    hmmm maybe it doesn't work with 'if' in the script or the event I was using then? I don't know much about what works with what, I'm sure I can get it figured out to work in the autosave script I am using though, which may be the reason as well. Thanks.
