    Salve friends, Romans, citizens!

Last month was a busy one for us. After the latest update Celticus has joined the team and did a vast and marvellous work beyond my expectations. So, first of all among the all other things i'm so surprised and so happy with that great thing.

For this update, we started from the basics or if i correctly say from the scratch.

We examined the Roman and Italian culture units and while saving the very essence of the troops we made new additions and enriched the formula to make them even more distinct yet diverse culture group as a whole.

So, what we did with that update,

Celticus reworked and reforged nearly all helmet models that we've need most and improved the texture work in many ways. And for the armours same rule applied.

    Era by era

    Camillan Legions,

We added the (new helmet model of the Solitudo and retexed by the Celticus) Italiot version of Pylos helmet for varied units. Plain, horned and crested models distributed the units accordingly.

You'll see museum image references below:

    and Celticus textures,

In addition to Italic Pylos, i added Negau helmet variants for Socii units with varied crests and decorations. According to findings Negau helmet proved itself a longer lifespan than we could expect. Findings in Croatia dates back to 1st BC (nearly Ceasarian era).

Celticus' improved (and new feather, plume, horsehair variants) textures for Solitudo' Samnite Helmet,

    https://imgur.com/a/89ZAY

For the Cavalry and and Centurions, i used Beotian variant of DEI made by Avetis to increase variation.

And i used Kaziel' new shield model (three different variants), reforged them as early scutum model and transferred all Socii and Italiot shield patterns to the new one. By this addition we increased the shield variety for Italiot/Socii units dramatically.

Plus to new addition, i used Solitudo' oblong model and hexagonal scutum for varied units including Rorarii reserves, some Italiot units, Italiot town garrisons and low tier units. You'll notice what we did especially in urban battles. And for the Romans and Socii you'll notice new shield patterns.

You'll notice more linothorax variants for heavier early units for Romani, Socii and Italiot units. For example Socii Principes, Roman Principes, Early Triarii and Apuli Extraordinarri and even Samnite Warriors. (medium to rare distribution)

    Polybian Era,

While keeping the new early scutum models for Polybian era we changed the fastenings of scutums to iron for the Roman legions. And we added new dents and scars for the shields and completely reworked the textures. And for the Romans and Socii you'll notice new shield patterns. You'll notice the changes that we've made in screenshots section.

And for the heavier Polybian era units we introduce you the Roman Subermalis created by a great modder Stealth4Health variants for Socii/Romani Hastati/Principes units.

    Based on these references,
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Same as the Camillan legions, Polybian Roman infantry will have only black feathers (rare whites) and purple feathers for veterans (Principes/Triarii) according to Polybius reference (Thanks to Celticus' reference).

For the Polybian legions Celticus introduced new mail armor variants based on Kaziel ones. And Celt added them new shoulder pads (red and white) increase the chainmail variey even more.

    Marian / Augustan Era,

Late era is where the Celticus' work shines most!

All base chainmail model texture work is improved and Celt added new variants with shoulder pads and Pteruges for regulars and elites. Now, we have chainmail shoulder pads, Celtic style pads, leather variants to increase variation while taking the overall quality to a new level.

In addition to the armour changes Celticus improved Kaziel' model textures and added new Coolus and late Montefortino variants to give the Marian units even more distinctive look.

New Gallic Galea of Hloeric is also a great welcomed addition for Augustan legions,

    https://imgur.com/a/axwb0

And for the Imperials Celticus made an extensive research and improved the whole models and added even bras variants of Gallic helmets based on the reference below and could be seen in screenshots section,

You can see the improved and newly added helmet models by the link below

    Lastly and importantly,

We've reworked nearly all Infantry Auxilia and Cavalry Auxilia (where it's needed most) and reskinned them with our new assets. It was a big task to complete but i think results are good.

For a better understanding what we did, changed, improved and added please check the screenshots section unit by unit (not all of the units) below,

And i want to thank many great modders for their kind and generous contributions,

DEI team for such a great mod to work with! Kaziel for his helmets and armors, Germansarecoming for early Linothorax variants, Stealth4Life for the brilliant Roman Subermalis, Hloeric for Praetorian and Gallic helmets. Thank you dear friends,

And i want to thank you also my great team mates!

For the dedication, hardwork, feedbacks, solid references and suggestions! And all the things that we've done. I dedicate this update to Celticus! A big THANK YOU my friend!

Solitudo as always the unsung hero of our mod did a wonderful job by providing us oblong shields, Italic Pylos. HighonTea give us his great late Republican helmets to work with. Falco/Vandamsel for his endless feedback stream, support and suggestions (and ofc nitpicking at its best)

I hope you like what we did for you fellow friends,

    And enjoy

This is insane. I got goosebumps going through those shots. And not seeing the ugly blurry chain mails anymore is just so much for my heart to handle. Thank you, so much.

(Are you doing something to the clipping between arm guard with the shirt of the armored legionary? I'm a bit obsessed with details, especially on things I love!!)
(And also, just asking, not requesting anything, I dont see rectangular shields anymore. Are you abandoning them for good or have later plans for them?)

Thank you dear friends, its so pleasant to hear such nice comments!

    @Diego,
What you mean by rectangular shield? Rectangular Imperials? If so, for Augustan legions we used hexagonals. Rectangulars are adopted later on.

    Typical Augustan legionnaire,

For the shirt clipping. Its a minor detail but i'll see what i can later because we're all tired and need to relax and more importantly play what we did after such a release,

    Thank you,

What you've done for all of us is too much already. I literally waited YEARS for this, so I cant ask for anything more.

The rectangular shield I mentioned is this one. Yes it's adopted later. But it's like the signature of roman legionary (from most movies and images). Now that you use hexagonals for imperials, you are not going to use rectangulars anymore right?

The Imperials are considered Augustan for this mod, since it takes a ton of playtime to get to when the rectangular ones were used in game.

Wow!!! absolutely incredible stuff, i work of art mate... It's mods like this that add years to a game, Rome was at best mediocre when it first appeared.... now with you men it has become great, the detail is incredible and could spend hours just looking at and going through what you have done, love your work mate.
