Good heavens, a free mod is better than than this. Why would any of you buy this? Attila runs like hell on my 4.70 intel /gtx 1070, the most poorly optimized game I have ever owned, but we have some Soylent Green DLC for Rome 2! No thanks CA. "Thrones of Britannia" you ask? I have that mod LOL, it's called "Age Of Vikings."

I don't see this game as really that much of a Vikings themed game. It starts like 12 or 13 years after the great heathen invasion, so it's likely that the Vikings won't be invaders by this point, just an established kingdom or two to deal with like any other. Of course the marketing types at CA are going to put out a video that has to tie in nods to current pop culture. They'd be pretty stupid if they didn't. It helps to sell the games.

A promo video like that is meant to grab the masses who get their history from TV mini-series and get them interested. The real meat of that video to me is that the game is most likely more centered around Alfred the Great and his exploits in defeating the Vikings and consolidating the country to some extent or if one chooses an alternative to play---any of the regional kings or even the local Viking kingdoms and thus make one's own history.

I'm quite looking forward to it.

    Cheers

Thats not quite true. And an Outdated theory already. It was exactly the same in the Former Roman provinces in the Balkans,Pannonia ,the border regions along the Danube and the Rhine,Italy somewhat, and much much later for North Africa ,Asia Minor and the Levant.

Exactly. The history of post-Roman Britain isn't any more remarkable than what occurred in other former Roman provinces. I am, for one, particularly fascinated by the archaeology of Keszthely culture - Roman Pannonians who weathered the turmoil of the Dark Ages in their fortified castra near Lake Balaton in Hungary. Based on archaeological finds, they appear to have spoken a "Pannonian" Romance language as well.

So that would be the second of the three new titles they have announced.

Wonder what would be the third.

Maybe because they just announced "big DLC" for Rome II and did not fix anything important which people were complaining about for for years. I mean if you going back to old title and deciding to release a new DLC for it, why would not touch core mechanics which need attention in a first place? Instead they add some shallow stuff which make a little difference. I would pre-order that DLC if they would revisit BAI, fix missing/wrong maps on IA map, fix pike phalanx behavior problems, sieges, optimize game performance even further and list goes on. This is why people have every reason to be skeptical about anything CA come up with. They want to make a quick buck with minimum work and resources which they putting in new stuff.

I bet they made huge profit with Rome II but they never fully polished that game which only speaks of CA's attitude towards it customers. There is nothing they can do for me to forgive that were selling DLC's for ROME before patch 14 or even earlier. Basically they were saying: "We know this game is broken at this point but we have schedule to release DLC's and make money so we don't care".

Now they are releasing Saga which might be a good game, even as others have mentioned it is pretty sweet how they want to catch up with trendy TV shows, ok... I have no problem with it if that game is good. I have problem with Attila game which is not running any good on my pretty powerful PC and I do want to enjoy MK 1212 at it best. I have 600 Euro video card which can't run that game decently and I have to deal with it but I have a chance to buy a new game and forget about Attila optimization, isn't it great?

    Very difficult to identify.
I see Roman-like Pteruges at some of the men in front.
The guy behind looks very Medieval.

    So far no idea.

It's quite interesting when you think about it. CA did the same thing with Rome 2 - shoving SPARTANS! down everyone's throat because everyone was into 300 and those retarded documentaries hailing Sparta (history's second best known example of a militaristic national socialist state) as the saviors of "Western Civilization" and get this..."democracy." However, both DLCs (Greek city states cultural pack and Wrath of Sparta) bombed because when it came down to the actual gameplay, you realized that there isn't exactly much out here for you to do as Sparta. You sack Athens and...it just gets weird.

Now they have baited us with the VIKINGS! theme twice with Attila. I am curious to see how it will play out the third time. CA has improved markedly regarding storylines and campaign objectives (I'm excited to see how this works in ED as well) so it could turn out to be something interesting. Ultimately, I just wish that they did not have to play to the tunes of "pop culture" in order to entice fans to buy their products.

Just because they didn't address the things you felt needed looking at, doesn't make this "a quick buck with minimum work and resources." For many the politics system has been one of the weakest points of Rome 2, when it was meant to be one of the strongest, so this overhaul of that system is very well received. And taking the game to a new period of Roman history not covered by any of the existing campaigns that requires a significant amount of work to do isn't my idea of making "a quick buck with minimum work and resources."

And if they hadn't been selling the DLC, we likely wouldn't have been getting the patches. Nobody is forced to buy DLC, but for those who were playing the game and having fun even before patch 14, why should they miss out on the option to buy more content if they want to, just because the game hasn't reached your standards? And if you're going to be so focused on what they chose to sell, let's not forget what they chose to give away. 6 Playable factions (actually 9 as those around for the bad launch got Nomadic Tribes DLC as well without paying a penny extra,) Imperator Augustus campaign with another 10 Playable factions, Battle of Pydna, Emperor Edition, now Power & Politics etc.

Honestly, if CA were the money obsessed nasty pieces of work some seem to portray them as, and if they didn't care about the games they make and the people that play them, why would they do any of that?

Have you tried turning down graphical settings? I know Attila has issues, a lot more than Rome 2 (which generally runs fine on my 4+ year old gaming laptop,) but sometimes tweaking settings and not having everything set to ultra helps with issues with games. Maybe you need to find the settings that work best for your setup. Yes optimization could be better, but the impression I get is even CA isn't sure why some of the issues Attila has happens. If they could fix it, I think they would have.

It's also possible through making Thrones of Britannia, they may find things that help they can then apply to Attila.

I really hope it will be "something new"...

Seriously, I am a little bit disappointed witht he recent two historical stuff announcements.
In a nutshell, we have .... errr... an nearly-Attila-era campaign for Rome 2 (hey, another Empire-broken-down in-several-factions-must-unite-it campaign after all) and another Vikings TW, a Setting done already (overdone already?) in several installments I think.

Then, both games might be good, seen for themselves, and I am at least tempted to buy the Aurelian campaign, it Looks not too bad.

But at the end of the day, I am hungry for something new in the TW series. A new era, a new setting, something new!
Please let the next big historical TW be something really new.

The third game is the Next Major Historical, and we know for certain it's a new era

Development on the next major historical release continues apace, with the team focusing on some fantastic UI and environmental work recently to capture the mood of this unique setting, that we’ve yet to explore in any previous Total War game.

Some people are of the idea that we might see another Saga after Thrones of Britannia. My bet goes to an English-Scottish war Saga called Total War: Braveheart. But we could also expect something completely new like Total War: The Last of the Mohicans.

And as I commented on the YouTube trailer (yeah I'm losing my lately), it would have been more profitable if CA entered into a Warhammer-like cooperation and made Total War: For Honor. The majority of the non-British/Scandinavian fan base is more likely to enjoy Vikings Vs Knights Vs Samurais rather than another historical Vikings Vs Brits.

By the way, since many of us are trying to cool down things down here by stating that this will not be a Vikings focused game, rather a Celtic and Gallo-Roman one. Let's just say we were being generous by calling it Vikings-focused as that's a far more interesting idea (actually at a completely different level) when compared to a Britain-focused one.

What I've been trying to say the whole time is that you can't use the same logic against Rome, Japan, or Vikings. Rome conquered most of Europe, North Africa, Asia Minor, and part of the Middle East, so at one point in history the ancestors of the Total War fans were part of the glorious Roman Empire. On the other hand, Samurais and Vikings became so famous from television that nobody cared that their ancestral nation is probably not represented in the game.

That said, having been playing Total War since 2003 I have undeniable evidence that we're all "biased" in our preferences (which is normal) to choose culture we're related to. Granted that most of us tried several famous factions like Rome, Carthage, Holy Roman Empire, England, France (Napoleon), Spain, but the campaigns we spent most of our time on were always linked to ancestry. All my coop campaigns at school consisted of a German friend playing as the Suebi, 2 Lebanese as Carthage, Greeks obviously as Athens, Sparta, Macedon, Italians as Rome, and so on. I always play Online Battles with one of the best Total War modders in here that does amazing overhauls on almost every single faction of all the latest TW titles (including Warhammer) and it's how funny our friends said to both of us separately "oh again Pikemen Vs Oathsworn" for as long as we could remember we never chose different cultures. Same happens when new content is to be released by CA or modders and everyone spams the threads by requesting their favourite factions to be included or improved and coincidentally it's mostly related to their country of origin.

I went on for too long but the idea is that CA should know about this "bias" and capitalise on it by choosing the region of the game more strategically in case they're not planning to cover most of the demanded regions by fans, and as a result get a more successful and profitable release. Imagine the disappointment within CA after working for so long on the DLC and Saga and the sales barely achieve breakeven or not meet the target.

Always happens. TFW Brit and you get preferences in units, factions and pretty much everything else.

While the parallels to the "Vikings"-series (Setting) and "Game of Thrones" ("Thrones" in the title, ravens, towns rising from the ground like in the GoT intro, 5 kings in the artwork) are forced as , I am kinda locking forward to that one, especially for the new map. If the modding scene isn't completely dead by the point the game is released, I can see people making mods settled in the Dark Ages or sub-mods for Medieval Kingdoms. Maybe Beddow even manages to compose a soundtrack that doesn't consist to 95% of flutes?

Ya if there are modding tools available I'm planning on making a historically accurate version. I basically just assume CA is gonna half ass it by now

Have tons of research already done for my attila mod based on the time period so I'm ready to go
