    Default MAARC LXVIII Submission/Nomination Thread

This is the submission/nomination thread for MAARC LXVIII!
Please read the rules carefully - we changed them for MAARC LXV onwards.

    Changes to competition rules

    • Previously, 5 entries were needed to run a normal competition. Now, 6 entries are needed. If you see an AAR or story which deserves recognition, please encourage the writer to enter the MAARC (for AARs) or MCWC (for creative writing).
    • We have brought the entry requirements of the MCWC in-line with the MAARC, so now to enter the MCWC you need to have two updates within the submission period instead of having two updates as well as a word count requirement.
    • Previously, our rules on advertising were a bit complicated and they imposed a blanket penalty of a 3-month disqualification. Now, our rules are simpler and the disqualification is at the discretion of Content Staff, which allows for fairer, more proportionate responses to any breach of the rules.·
    • Under the previous rules, stories which were previously published offsite before being posted on TWC were not eligible for our competitions. Now, as long as they meet the eligibility requirements, they can enter.
    • If you have any questions or feedback on these new rules please post in the Chat thread and let us know.

    Eligibility

    • You can only enter work that is posted on TWC.
    • The submission must have at least two new updates within the submission period: December 1 onwards
    • The first place winner of the previous competition cannot compete in the next one.
    • Only one entry per person.
    • Once the submission period has ended there will be a one week poll to decide the winners.
    • If there are fewer than six entries in the month after the submission period begins, the submission period is extended for one week, followed by a poll with reduced rewards. If there are fewer than three entries the submission period remains open until at least three entries have been submitted.
    • Authors can, and are encouraged to, submit their own work. If you would like to nominate someone else's work, please ask for the author's approval first (or encourage the author to nominate it themselves!).
    • Writers' Study Staff have discretion to disqualify nominations where it would be unfair to allow them to enter, for example in cases of plagiarism.
    • If you have a question or want to check whether an entry is eligible, please send a private message to a member of the Writers' Study Staff.

    Information to provide

    • Title and link to the thread
    • Author
    • Short description/teaser
    • Game, mod and faction (if applicable)

    Advertisement Rules

    • Advertising of the competitions is allowed, for example "please vote in the MAARC", however any kind of direct advertising to advocate nominees is prohibited.
    • Breaking these rules will result in measures being taken at the discretion of the Writers' Study Staff.
    • The competition manager will take whatever steps necessary to insure the integrity of the competition.
    • Asking for votes via any method is not allowed and will result in an immediate disqualification.

    Awards

    • 4 points for the Winner
    • 3 points for Second Place
    • 2 points for Third Place

If the competition has less than six entries then first place will receive three points and second place will receive two. Points are recorded in the Hall of Fame. They are accumulated towards the awarding of the Writers' Study Competition Medals.

    • 6 points - bronze medal
    • 12 points - silver medal
    • 24 points - gold medal

    Dreadbolt
    by Alavaria

This land which I promised to your fathers to give to their children after them, rise up and go forth into it and take possession.

In a world where the Pope holds sway over spiritual matters from Rome, and the lands are divided between the Holy Roman Empire and the Byzantine Romans, the time is right for a return of an ancient line.

Podesta Baldassare belts on his sword and leads his Pisans down a path of aggression, bloodshed and conquest. It is time for the "Romans" of the world to, yet again, be faced by their ancient destroyer**.

Written with the Stainless Steel Historical Improvement submod, for the Stainless Steel mod on Medieval II: Total War

The video below is the map (with fog of war off) for the first 30 turns, which covers Phase I: Polishing Pavises.

**This story follows (after a "timeskip" of course) from the events in the Sparta AAR, but there is nothing critical in that story for this one.

[Alavaria wanted to enter the MAARC LXVII, but unfortunately voting for that MAARC had already begun. So I am treating Alavaria's submission as a submission for the MAARC LXVIII and re-posting it here - Alwyn]

Name-The great war from the Spanish perspective .

    Faction-Spain .

    Mod-WW1 mod .

    Game-Empire total war .

Description-Hablas espaneol .Amigos get ready for seeing the spanish empire coming back to life after a whole era(The victorian era)of humiliation and defeat .Focusing on multiple perspectives from the king, generals and of course the field dogs the men who do all the heavy work .This work in progress is regularly updated and is a good read with a refreshingly good mod .Whats better after all than to sit in a comfortable chair with a warm heater near you as you imagine the cold, horror and hardships of those who gave their lives or got wounded for their nation in those dirty, cold, disease ridden trenches .

Please forgive the shameless self promotion as I am new to the AAR community and hope to get to know you all better.

The Restoration of Epirus [DEI Campaign AAR]

    Author: Myself
    Game: Rome II
    Mod: Divide et Impera

Description: The campaign begins at the end of the Pyrrhic War with Rome. Pyrrhus of Epirus has been humiliated in his attempts to withstand the Roman aggression in Magna Graecia and is forced to return to Greece. However, Pyrrhus has no intention of giving up his claims of the the southern portion of the Italian peninsula and launches a second invasion.

Pyrrhus is confronted with a multitude of obstacles and hardships as the other Greek city-states vie for control over the Greek peninsula as well. Pyrrhus is forced to bring order to his homeland before any hopes of reclaiming the land once owned in Italy. The peoples of Greece are in need of unification. The Greeks in Magna Graecia are in need of liberation. And Pyrrhus' ambitions are in need of being executed at any cost, even his life...
