Sorry if it sounds like an exaggeration. But he is just so out of place. The very sight of him there is mind boggling and strange.

Sean Bean is joining the cast for season 2!

He'll play the Florentine aristocrat Jacopo de Pazzi, head of the family that led a conspiracy to assassinate Lorenzo Medici. Of course they give him a role where you know he's gonna die. It's Sean Bean we're talking about here. His face should just be superimposed on every red-shirt in Star Trek.
That's hilarious given who else is in this.
But isn't it too early for Pazzi? Especially played by an actor like Bean?

Yeah, it doesn't make any sense to me. Richard Madden (i.e. King Robb Stark in Game of Thrones) plays Cosimo Medici, who was dead by 1464. That's more than a decade before the Pazzi Conspiracy of 1478. Sean Bean is an older actor, so there's no way he's being billed as playing a young Jacopo de Pazzi here.
Whatever, it'll be entertaining nonetheless.
this will spawn many memes.
A King in Milan.
The Borgias send their regards.
Madonna, it is known.
You know nothing Giovanni Visconti.

Anyone been watching season 2?
Keep in mind that only Italian members should be able to answer this...lol.
But seriously...How is it? I look forward to it getting on Netflix hopefully soon.

On season 2 noe. About halfway done.
I am wondering how many more seasons this can go. I will admit I really only know about the medicis during the renaissance period but i know they go for a few more centuries...is there enough interesting bits to potentially turn this into a long running series?

Hmm...when was the last time I saw Sean Bean as a villain? Was it in Goldeneye in the mid 90s? If so this is a refreshing role for him, seeing as he almost always plays a good guy in the films and TV series that I can recall, LOTR and GOT included. He was basically a neutral character in Ronin.
Equlibrium kinda vilanish.. more like corrupt. I cant recall.... for certain.. anyway he died....
Good point. I watched the first episode. It wasn't super exciting but by the end of it I was a little hooked. It was convincing enough for me to watch the next episode at least. In this particular genre and setting of Renaissance Italy, I think the show Borgia is a bit more compelling, with more memorable and likable characters, but in this season of Medici's defense I am just getting to know the characters. I'll try to remember to do a lengthier, more detailed review once I finish the series.
God I could not get into either Borgia series. Just...too much fluff for me.
One day though. I think they can both download to my kindle through Netflix so they are possible shows to watch when not around interwebs

The Borgias, the one with Jeremy Irons? That was an excellent show. Good story, music and the actor playing Cesare was also dark and unpredictable. Was disappointed to see it was canceled.
I'm going to watch this only because of Sean Bean. I tried to get into it sometime back but then get lost track of it as i generally found it boring.
If you decide to watch the horrid show, please consider that Renaissance Italy, in particular Florence, was actually another, completely different, intimately opposite world than the historical pastiche you'll watch on the screen!
