Default Research- Thread: Characters and Political Relations

So since the MKTW-Team made the statement that research about political relations and characters would be very helpful, I decided to make a central thread, which sums up all the informations already given and present them in a clear form. All characters and relations (except some completely out-of-time ones) from former posts (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...-Master-Thread #553, #603, #605, #607,#610, #612, #621, #623, #624 and #632) are included, rereaded and matched. Also some new stuff was added. It was a heavy bunch of work, but now it´s done...

All further informations about characters and political relation can be posted here. (@Warman222; Please feel free to use it as sticky thread)

Ha, ha...I know that there had to be other nobles in georgia beside the royal family, so that´s not exactly wrong but the nobles were simply not found or presented.
I don´t think that every Eristav will make it in, but at least now there are some georgian chars for the "other nobles"-category. So, thanks for the addition

Nice addition, now the we just need to add all HRE vassals
I´m quite unsure how to deal with the german lords. They have to be the leader for their factions too. To add them as HRE-non-family-nobles is quite cool, but then there would be 2 of them in the game... Any ideas?

Default Re: Research- Thread: Characters and Political Relations

Hm, then replacing them with high ranking nobles, who are not represented by a faction of their own on the map, would probably the best idea - for example, the archbishops of Cologne and Mainz.

Ok, I just completed the northern realms. Wanted to do some research on HRE-vassals as well, with whom the difficult half of the map would be covered, but I don´t think I´ve got enough time for that. (big exam in near future) Come on guys, let´s drop some stuff for the mod, every piece helps the team and save them time and work.

@Pinarius; Could you find some other nobles and add them to your post? - Would be nice.

    @Heisenburrg

    Great job so far.

Denmark and Norway should definitely have bad relations. 100s of years of Danes claiming suzerainty of Oslo area (which is where Philip Simonsson act as a puppet king to the Danes).
Norway and Scotland should have bad relations as well, due to the events that quickly followed.
It's quite clear that the Germans (teutons) were not going to stay around the Danes for long. They made that clear quite early on when they took the Danish King hostage for years and forced the agreement to disown his claim over them. However, it depends a bit on how one interprets history and if game play is better served by it. They can have good bad or neutral relations, depending on the perspective I guess.
A series of wars followed the Danes this century. Exiled Danes, Norwegians (and even Icelandic vassals) and the Germans (Holstein, Saxony, Westphalia, etc.) formed a coalition and ganged up on the Danish king in the 13th century in a series of wars.
Norway could also have bad relations with the Pope.
Denmark and Norway can have good relations with England. They appealed to England a number of times for support.

    From Norway.
I would omit Guttorm Ingesson, he was a bastard and wasn't considered a claimant.
Haakon Galen should be Haakon the Crazy. Sounds a lot better too.
Philip Simonsson would be a rebel (he styled himself sovereign, dux) or a Danish army. The simplest solution would be to omit his presence because his domain isn't on the map. Alternatively, force the Norwegian land-army to fight him turn 1, but that may or may not be too complicated.
Instead of Philip, have Skule Bardson ("Duke Skule") https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skule_B%C3%A5rdsson

Other Nobles could include one of the two Jarls of Orkney (if Norway is going to have a presence on the Scottish mainland of Caithness, which was part of the Jarldom of Orkney. Alternatively, as non-military nobles)
Peter (the old) Stefansson (Svina-Peter) was a general and leader of the Guests.

I also don't like the sir names for Scandinavians. You'll end up with male sir names for females (Margret Olafsson, which means Margret, son of Olaf), which is weird. Better alternatives would be either to have by-names. Secondly to use the original clan/dynasty. So for example: Haakon the Young, or Haakon of Fairhair Dynasty respectively. Third alternative is to not have any surnames at all.

Thorolf was thus armed. Then Thorolf became so furious that he cast his shield on his back, and, grasping his halberd with both hands, bounded forward dealing cut and thrust on either side. Men sprang away from him both ways, but he slew many. Thus he cleared the way forward to earl Hring's standard, and then nothing could stop him. He slew the man who bore the earl's standard, and cut down the standard-pole. After that he lunged with his halberd at the earl's breast, driving it right through mail and body, so that it came out at the shoulders; and he lifted him up on the halberd over his head, and planted the butt-end in the ground. There on the weapon the earl breathed out his life in sight of all, both friends and foes. [...] 53, Egil's Saga
I must tell you here of some amusing tricks the Comte d'Eu played on us. I had made a sort of house for myself in which my knights and I used to eat, sitting so as to get the light from the door, which, as it happened, faced the Comte d'Eu's quarters. The count, who was a very ingenious fellow, had rigged up a miniature ballistic machine with which he could throw stones into my tent. He would watch us as we were having our meal, adjust his machine to suit the length of our table, and then let fly at us, breaking our pots and glasses.

Merry christmas! I´ve made a little present for all who wanted some more info about the political relations around 1212... The whole Holy Roman Empire!

In 1212 Otto IV., the son of Henry the Lion and reigning emperor, fought against Friedrich II. of Hohenstauffen for the Empire´s crown. The interests, that the pope and the mighty italian states tried to accomplish, the external conflicts with France, as well as the very own objective´s of the "Reichsfürsten" made the situation even more complex. I tried to represent the chaotic alliances and animosities inside the realm as much as possible and I think it came to a good result.
The HRE-faction itself, Bavaria and Austria were already presented very well by Pinarius (see above), I only gave some additional informations for them (speaking of HRE-faction, I would delete Archbishop Albert I. of Kevernburg, because he´s presented among the nobles of Brandenburg).
All in all there are around 8 vassals of the realm, which are going to support the HRE (respectively emperor Otto IV.) and 5 powerfull states, which will try to achive a growth in independence or a new order under the reign of Friedrich II. The other states I´ve classified as neutral.

Please, take a look. Improvements and additions (especially Bologna) are welcome.

P.S. Would love to see 2-3 additional, characteristic units for HRE and it´s vassals too
