The Pontic King Mithridates IV, hearing of the Gallic invasions, launches an invasion into Asia. Asia has welcomed Mithridates to drive the Romans from their lands and establish Pontic rule over all of Turkey. They have begun systematically slaughtering all Roman citizens they find in their territory. Some 15,000 Romans are killed, mostly equites.
