Well, de jure it was still tributary part of the Osman Empire, while being de facto independent (under British de facto control later).

In the mod it starts as an Ottoman protectorate, which is exactly what it was. Its not emergent, when the campaign arrives then the madhists will emerge there, as its the best way to represent that particular conflict.

egypt has its army conquering Greece.syria,modern suadi arabia,sudan. by independent monarch called mohamed ali his riegn form 1805 to 1848. then his children is called khidevate by ottoman empire to recognize their indepentence and thier help to ottoman greece campaign later by 1855.
The madhist is a small spark in history of egypt not compared to its might and powerfull army in 1870 which threatens Great britain itself leading to egypt occupation by three invasion army to sieze suez canal & lower egypt then sudan silly war not to be compared with indepentent diciplined army of a major nation.

We made this decision a long time ago and do not plan to change it. It was de jure part of the ottoman empire at least until the british invasion and that is how we will represent it. In the campaign in which Egypt will be playable (a very long way down the list as for stability reasons using the hybrid system each faction needs a separate campaign file, and Egypt is a minor faction), it probably won't be a protectorate either as that would probably adversely affect things from the players point of view (limits money/diplomacy etc.) In all the others however it will be a protectorate.
