"He does, and he intends to request the Pro-Consulate of Macedonia on his return. I, however, must begin the cursus honorum.

So in respect to that, was is it you wish?"

"Well, if your father has need of a quaestor for one of his legions, I would be happy to serve. It is important, I think you'll agree, to respect the cursus honorum, is it not?"

"He will need Quaesters for his Legions, but he will also require Legates and Tribunes once he takes up his post in Macedonia.

It is, for without it, hiw could we be described as citizens?"

"I would be happy to serve in whatever capacity he thinks necessary. It is good, I think, to spend a few years in service to the state before embarking upon a political career. Putting society before oneself is a truly Roman virtue, and the essence of the cursus honorum, if you ask me. In any case, how would you suggest I contact the Consul?"
