The Praetor is invited to the domus, where Lucius Villius Tappulus meets with him in the atrium.

"Welcome Praetor, to what do I owe the honor of meeting with you today?"

"I hadn't seen you in the Curia this year, Lucius." He began "I was hoping I could convince you to support my motion currently on the floor? I intend to govern Sicily next year."

"Yes, I have been on other business that has kept me away from the Curia for some time now, but I had planned to return soon."

Lucius' eyebrow raises at Gaius' proposal.

"Ah, so in the midst of this damned war you have your sights set on your next goal already? I should have expected as much. A propraetorship for the province of Sicily, then? I do not see why not, though perhaps you could help me as well, Praetor? My sons are men grown, and I have been looking for a patron for them both. I was hoping that my eldest, Publius, could be taken under your wing? He is intelligent and good with numbers. I am sure he would serve you well."

Gaius smiled. How he enjoyed this quid pro quo, the thrill of the political bargain. "If I am made propraetor of Sicily, I am sure that I can arrange for your son to accompany me and serve as an official of some capacity in Sicily. Perhaps as a tax collector, or a military quaestor, or in a priestly function - the possibilities are endless." Gaius rose and paced a bit. "I plan to stay in Sicily only a year." he continued. "Long enough to serve in a necessary capacity, but not so long that I will lose pace and interests in the political life in Rome." Gaius turned back to the man, the broad purple stripe of his toga plainly visible. "And do you intend to run for office next year?"

"Excellent, then I wish you all the luck with securing Sicily for the next term. Hopefully the conflicts on the main land shall not reach you there."

    Lucius nodded at Gaius' question.

"Indeed, I have been away from politics for some time now and I had planned to make my comeback now. I'm mostly aiming for the position for Aedile next year, military matters I feel are better for those with a thirst for blood. Can I count on your vote, Praetor?"

"Hopefully the war shall be ended by then." Gaius offered. but he did not know if it would be. Based upon the current prosecution of the war, the Italians could last much longer. What a nightmare! "You can count on my vote." he concluded. "Provided that my interests are provided for."

The young Sixtus is led to the gardens by a household slave, where Lucius Villius Tuppula and his wife were just enjoying some wine and fruits. Lucius rise at the sight of his guest, welcoming him with an offer of wine.

"If it isn't Sixtus Annius Milo, gracing us with his presence! How are you doing, and how is it with your brother Quintus?"

Oh, more wine. I'm already half-drunk... greaaaat, head's gonna hurt tomorrow. Jove guard me from headaches! I will try to puke later.

"My brother is wonderfully healthy, at least he was last time I checked"

    Replied the young Milo.

"I'm doing fine as well, senator. I didn't know your wife was this fair, worthy of Juno herself! Or is she your daughter?"

He chuckled, jesting and trying to be nice with the senator's wife. Women always liked a well-timed compliment...

"You have a beautiful domus indeed, Lucius Villius Tuppula"

Lucius laughs at Sixtus' compliments to his wife, while Domitia chuckled a little.

"Oh, aren't you quite the charmer, Sixtus Annius Milo? Thank you, I have put my life's blood into making these walls worthy for my family. A domus is a symbol of the gens, and a rotten domus shows a rotten gens. It is a good lesson that my father taught me."

He took a sip from his own wine that a slave brought forth and turned to Sixtus.

"Now, how may I be of service to you, Sixtus Annius Milo? Or have you just come to compliment my wife and house? If so, please continue."

Lucius chuckled at his last little joke.

"I could spread niceties and compliments the whole day, considering the fabled beauty of both your wife and your domus. I'm afraid shall you summon any daughters the whole day shall be spent in such endeavours"

    Said the young Milo.

"Alas, other matters bring me here. Surely you have heard about myself running for office this year"

I guess you want me to support you or both of you, if I may get right to the point. However, I do not see why I should do that at this moment. What can I expect in return, Sextus Annius Milo?"

"The gratitude of a future consul and my own"

Said Sextus with a wide smile.

"Don't think it's a meager offer. My brother and pater familias, Quintus, is surely getting what he wants this year and you can't scorn a consul's friendship, doesn't it?"

The Milo open his arms, gesturing.

"And anyway, whatever you do, we might still win the election and you wouldn't get anything from it. So, consider it a bet, a safe bet"

"A bet indeed, but I hope that the future Consul may perhaps offer something more. As I am running for Aedile, I am always on the lookout for more supporters. And from what I've heard, the road to Consulship is much steeper this year than the last, so excuse me if I doubt your words about your brother getting what he wants."

Lucius took a sip from his wine before continiung. He smiled at Sextus.

"But let us not be arguing here, we share a common interest here. If your brother Quintus Annius Milo supports me in my campaign for Aedile, then he may count on my support. However, if I cannot have that I might as well turn to his opponents, as well as yours. I hear their offers are not so meager as well."

Lucius and Domitia both nod to Sextus Annius Milo.

"And so do we to you, Sextus Annius Milo. May Fortuna be with you."
