Information Thread for Potential New Border Prince Units
The Border Prince Confederacy, known also as the Borderlands, The Frontiers or simply as the Border Princes is a vast region within the Old World located between the Black Mountains and Black Fire Pass to the north and the shores of the Black Gulf to the south. This region of vast wilderness is home to a multitude of petty Human kingdoms that were established by highly ambitious adventurers who seeks to create a realm of their own. Many times however, these adventurers usually consist of political or religious refugees from lands such as the Empire, Bretonnia and Kislev. I have really struggled with getting units for these, I couldn't find hardly any lore for this place online or in my books. Most of my ideas below are educated guesses at potential units, I'm afraid to say. I do know though, that the Border Princes hire a lot of mercenaries, so the Dogs of War section would be useful for them. I view the Border Princes as a bit of a mongrel force, made up of bits and pieces of Imperial, Bretonnian, Tilean and Estalian units.

Wizards-OnlySpoiler Alert, click show to read:Giant Scorpion = "The dank underground passageways and caverns of the Worlds Edge Mountains conceal many huge and evil monsters. They breed in the darkness and grow huge, and fat, on a diet of unnameable crawling things that live deep below the earth. They are highly valued by Wizards throughout the Old World, and sometimes ridden to battle."

InfantrySpoiler Alert, click show to read:Badlander = They have to travel constantly around the area to find food and water, which also makes it relatively easy for them to hide. A surprisingly high proportion of Badlanders have previous careers from which they are hiding; those who don’t tend to dream of doing something worth hiding from.
http://warhammerfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Badlander
Badlands Ranger = The Badlands Ranger, or Border Ranger, is an experienced individual familiar with the hazards of the area and able to lead others safely through them. A trustworthy Badlands Ranger is worth a great deal of money, and they charge a great deal of money to those who want their services.
http://warhammerfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Badlands_Ranger
Bretonnian Adventurers = Bretonnian Adventurers to the Border Princes come from all walks of life, some are disgraced knights, some Questing Knights, many are peasants who want to escape their life of drudgery. Whatever their past, Bretonnian Adventurers all seem to stick to horseback.
Bretonnian Colonists = These are typically runaway peasants seeking a new life away from the cruel feudal life they had in Bretonnia, though many do not realise the danger of the land they have chosen for a home. These use the bow, or spear and shield.
http://warhammerfantasy.wikia.com/wi...ce_Confederacy
Cenobites = Cenobites live in communities, generally called monasteries, and follow the advice of a leader. The leader is often charismatic but often equally insane. At the very least, they are fanatical followers of a very personal vision of the truth (the con-artists do not set up in the Borderlands).
http://warhammerfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Cenobites
Empire Adventurers = Adventurers from the Empire seeking riches in the south, these are equipped with sword and shield, and use pistols.
Empire Colonists = Many in the Empire feel a need to get away from their homeland, whether they are outlaws, runaways, dishonoured nobles or desperate people fleeing devastation in the north, they’ve all travelled to the same place. They typically are halberdiers, hand gunners (rare), or swordsmen.
http://warhammerfantasy.wikia.com/wi...ce_Confederacy
Enforcers = Enforcers have a code of right and wrong that they uphold. They pay no attention to the legal authority of princes or, indeed, to law, relying entirely on their own sense of ethics and ability to uncover true villains.
http://warhammerfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Enforcer
Estalian Adventurers = Adventurers often come from Estalia, a land famed for its lust for gold across the world. Many of these travel to Lustria or the Southlands, but some pass through the Border Princes hoping to reach the deserts of Khemri. Many of these are skilled duellists, but they also carry pistols.
Strigany Nomads = The Empire of Strigos worshipped Vampires as Gods, but their Undead deities couldn’t save them from the might of butchering Greenskins. When the few escapees staggered north into the Old World, the stricken people met a wall of hatred from the other human tribes, but they had nowhere else to turn. They are a desperate people, often clinging to the half-forgotten legends that say that their ancient Vampiric masters will someday return to lift them from their pathetic lives.
http://warhammerfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Strigany
Swamp Skimmers = Collectively known as Swamp Skimmers, these men and women brave the hostile environment in the hopes of bettering themselves and perhaps buying passage out of this dangerous land.
http://warhammerfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Swamp_Skimmer
Tilean Adventurers = Tilean Adventurers pass this way often as well, these are commonly seen to be using crossbows and dual weapons, often a sword and knife combination.
AkendorfSpoiler Alert, click show to read:Akendorf Forresters = Akendorf currently ruled by Lord Durant as part of an electoral monarchy system. They have a population of approximately 800 and have an economy centred around timber, woodcarvings, hogs and trapping. The name suggests Empire descent to me. MyrmidensSpoiler Alert, click show to read:Myrmidens Crossbowmen = Myrmidens was settled by citizens of Luccini, and although it is its own state now, it follows many of the same methods of war. This involves mercenaries, but some units of their own that act in a similar fashion. Crossbowmen being one example of a type of unit they will train. The crossbow has always been the favoured weapon in Tilea because its long range allows troops to shoot from high positions on the ramparts and across moats and ditches into the enemy hordes. Crossbow bolts are powerful enough to pierce armour and inflict mortal wounds on tough and determined opponents.

Siege TrainSpoiler Alert, click show to read:"The only realistic solution to breaking massive fortifications is to employ a formidable siege train which includes siege engines of gigantic proportions capable of smashing down the strongest walls, gates and towers quickly. These machines are so huge that they cannot easily be constructed in the field. Instead, they must be manufactured in advance, often in pre-fabricated sections which can be transported in wagons, on ships, or stored until needed in fortresses."
https://i.imgur.com/SZ5PSHZ.png White Dwarf 155
The Giant Battering Ram = "The giant battering ram is cut from the tallest and strongest tree in the realm and shod with a massive iron or bronze head. Hundreds of men are needed to pull the ropes that swing the ram to strike a gate or fortress wall. One blow will smash great oak doors like matchwood or crumbles masonry into powder, collapsing towers and walls like sand castles. The hides of a thousand beasts form its canopy, protecting the operators from the arrows of the defenders."
https://i.imgur.com/SZ5PSHZ.png White Dwarf 155
The Great Cannon = "The great cannon is a cannon so big that the ruler will have to make special measures to get hold of enough metal to make it. All the bells in the realm or all the cannons of the fleet may have to be melted down to provide enough bronze to cast a single great cannon. It is so monstrous that hundreds of oxen are required to pull it."
https://i.imgur.com/SZ5PSHZ.png White Dwarf 155
The Monstrous Stone Thrower = "This is a catapult operated by a massive counterweight which swings a long shaft and hurls a boulder a very great distance. https://i.imgur.com/SZ5PSHZ.png White Dwarf 155
The Siege Tower = "Hundreds of wagons are required to carry the pre-fabricated timbers that make up the siege tower, and when these are put together the siege tower will be raised higher than any known wall. Bolt throwers shoot out of port holes on each of its many levels. A drawbridge or spiked corvus is ready on the top of the tower to be dropped on the enemy battlements allowing attackers to swarm across, constantly reinforced by a steam stream of soldiers."

MysticalSpoiler Alert, click show to read:Anchorites = Some people feel that they can only follow their own mystical leanings alone, away from the distractions of civilisation, conversation, and soap. http://warhammerfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Anchorites

http://warhammerfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Hedge_Wizard
Mystic = Some Anchorites and Cenobites become so full of wisdom (or full of something, anyway) that they progress to being Mystics. No longer content to seek wisdom by themselves, they insist on telling others of their discoveries, seeking to lead them to enlightenment also.
http://warhammerfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Mystic[/SIZE]
SonnentalSpoiler Alert, click show to read:Sonnental Sisterhood = It is rare for an army of the Border Princes Confederacy to have the sorceresses of Sonnental in their midst, and most of the time they do not want them. Many are the tales that follow them, some claiming even that they are vampires, and it is in fact true. They will only aid the armies of the Confederacy should it be vital to the survival of their enclave, and when they do they go swathed in clothes that ward off the sun and are swarmed with attendants. The Border Princes only accept them in their army because of the sheer power they can wield, sometimes enough to turn the tide of a battle.

http://warhammerfantasy.wikia.com/wi...the_Horned_Rat
Carlsson’s Cavalry = Sven Carlsson is such a Border Prince. The militia from his realm are mounted on horseback and garbed in red uniforms and wear very heavy armour. Carlsson's Cavalry are very well trained in combat, as Carlsson himself is a retired mercenary, and values well-trained troops. Carlsson is a personal friend of Morgan Bernhardt and the two often come to each other's aid
http://whfb.lexicanum.com/wiki/Border_Princes
Carrion Band = ”In the southern foothills of the Black Mountains lies a region of unusual rock formations known as the Warrens. The rocks for a virtual labyrinth of natural corridors, walls, and chambers, which are perfect hiding places for ambushers and cutthroats. A famous group of mercenaries called the Carrion Band is rumoured to make its home here.”
http://warhammerfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/The_Warrens
Fletcher's Crossbows = These mercenaries, all expert crossbowmen, have a disreputable past. They originally formed part of a small bandit army working in the forests of Talabecland. After a crackdown which was aided by elite Imperial forces they fled south to evade capture. Currently residing in the Border Princes town of Wissenheim, and still on the Empire's wanted list, they seek anonymity by joining a legitimate mercenary army.

Gulthac’s Hold’s Orc Beaters = ”The population is mainly made up of Swamp Skimmers, but a successful adventurer in the past brought enough wealth back to prepare very strong defences for the village. They have beaten off Orc bands ten times the village’s numbers, and the inhabitants are extremely proud.”
http://khorne.ru/2nd/wfrp_web/Renegade_Crowns.pdf
Legione del Dimenticato = ”The mercenary behind Isaak sported long, dark hair, and stared blankly ahead with yellow, glassy eyes. He’d wrapped himself in a long, blue coat, and had tied a strip of red cloth across his forehead. Next in line, a short, middle-aged man glowered. The white, curly hair on his head matched that on his chest, which was bared under an open linen shirt. The butts of twin pistols stuck out from his wide leather belt. Behind him was a fat man with a red nose from too much rum. He coughed and trembled in a damp knit tunic and hooded wool cloak. There was nothing about these men to identify as a unit, or even soldiers. None wore armour.”
