Information Thread for Potential New Amazon Units

Amazons are perhaps the strangest of all humans. They are physically identical to Old Worlders, despite coming from an equatorial jungle region where the only other humans are dark skinned pygmies. An Amazon, suitably dressed, could walk the streets of any Old World town without appearing out of place. The strangest thing of all about Amazons is that their population is almost all female. I should make it clear that they are not in the game yet, but it's possible we'll see them when we eventually see Lustria added to the game. I'm effectively pre-empting that expansion.

Tribal, Ancient and Monstrous Regiments and Notables

    Lords and Heroes
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Amazon Serpent Priestesses = The nature of the Amazonian Sisterhood is largely unknown to outsiders, but it has been observed that particularly warlike devotees are referred to as ‘Serpent Priestesses’. These warrior-mystics are potent magic wielders, and wise in the ways of the jungle.

Champions = Champions are veterans that have participated in dozens of war parties over the years. They are the right-hand girls to the Priestesses and also act as their bodyguards. They are skilled in fighting with a variety of different weapons. I assume variants could include; bows, javelins, spears, shields, spear and shield.

Master Herbalists = The amazons are master herbalists.

Novice Priestess = The younger, more junior members of the Priestesshood often gather war parties to search for Slann artifacts and also conduct the ritual sacrifices of captured enemies.
    http://www.lustria-online.com/thread...-issues.15973/ Town Cryer Issue 23

Priestess = Priestesses are part of the religious sisterhood that rules Amazon society. They are powerful sorceresses and their word is law. Some spells are included in this town cryer issue.
    http://www.lustria-online.com/thread...-issues.15973/ Town Cryer Issue 23

Sisterhood Novices = Amazonia is administered by the religious organisation called the Sisterhood. The Sisterhood is rather like a monastic order. As novices, the young cult members live closetted lives, only acquiring responsibility as they get older and wiser.

    Amazonians
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Berserkers = They are subject to frenzy. Later lore has mentioned that Amazons might be linked to the Norse, if this is the case then this unit makes a lot of sense.
    https://www.scribd.com/document/1170...attle-Bestiary

Cold One Riders = Though I’m sure there are more interesting names for these, the 2nd edition claims that Amazons can ride cold ones.
    https://www.scribd.com/document/1170...attle-Bestiary

Culchan Riders = South of the temple-city Oyxl, the jungles give way to a vast and fertile plain stretching hundreds of miles. The plains are named for huge, flightless birds called Culchan, which some explorers claim provide mounts for the Amazons.
    https://i.imgur.com/klow2Wn.png Warhammer Realms - Lustria

Kalim = They are a group of religious fighters who act as the soldiery of Amazonia and act as guardians of its people and temples. The constant consumption of the narcotic kroka in their diet enables them to live largely without sleep or food, so they tend to be a bit thin and insane looking.
    https://www.scribd.com/document/1170...attle-Bestiary

Kalim Devouts = They guard the inner sanctuaries of the Amazonian temples, in the 2nd edition lore they could carry the Old Slann High Age weapons which sound just like Warhammer 40k weapons, so that bit should be ignored. It would make more sense to say that they make use of ancient magical lizardman weapons that they’ve claimed.
    https://www.scribd.com/document/1170...attle-Bestiary

Koka-Kalim = Mentioned briefly as zealots, likely just another name for the Kalim.

    http://www.lustria-online.com/thread...-issues.15973/ Town Cryer Issue 23

Skink Hunters = The Amazons are fierce hunters that stalk Skinks and game in the surrounding swamps. They use the hides of Skinks for clothes and it should therefore come as no surprise that the Amazons and Lizardmen are bitter enemies.
    http://www.lustria-online.com/thread...-issues.15973/ Town Cryer Issue 15

Tribeswomen = These are the standard tribal units of the Amazons. They are able to wield; bows, slings, javelins, spears, spears and shields, shields, bolas.
    http://www.lustria-online.com/thread...-issues.15973/ Town Cryer Issue 23
    https://www.scribd.com/document/1170...attle-Bestiary

Valkyries = When they did not return, these and many other Norse maidens who had come to Skeggi hoping to find a brave and wealthy warrior as a husband were bitterly disappointed. Furthermore, the number of warriors defending Skeggi was badly depleted. These resolute Norse women became Valkyries, by which name the dreaded norse women warriors are known.
    http://www.lustria-online.com/thread...-issues.15973/ Town Cryer Issue 23

War Party = Seem to be the standard amazon warriors of their tribe, possibly an alternate name for Tribeswomen.
    https://www.scribd.com/document/1170...attle-Bestiary

Warriors = Every Amazon woman is trained in the ways of warfare from birth and is hardened by a life in the unforgiving nature of their jungle environment. Variants likely include; bows, slings, javelins, spears, spears and shields, shields, bolas.

    http://www.lustria-online.com/thread...-issues.15973/ Town Cryer Issue 23

Sunstaff Kalim = A unit based on an amazonian magical item in the Town Cryer rules, and the fanatical Kalim mentioned in early lore. It is described as “a long tubular stick that is made from a strange multicoloured metal with one end hollow like a tube. Strange runes are carved along its length and a large gemstone is set into the pommel. Despite being extremely ancient, the wielder can discharge a beam of energy akin to the rays of the sun.”
    http://www.lustria-online.com/thread...-issues.15973/ Town Cryer Issue 23

Sun Warriors = An amazon magical item that could easily be made into an interesting unit of warriors carrying the Sun Gauntlets. These are described as “as with all strange arcane amazon items, is made from an unknown multicoloured metal that is impervious to damage or corrosion. It is covered in strange runes and a bright gemstone is set into the hilt. In many ways this weapon resembles a blackpowder pistol. It can be held in one hand and when pointed at an enemy unleashes a blinding beam of energy.”

    Totemic Warriors
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Totem Warriors = There is a peculiar sect within Amazon society that attracts the most bloodthirsty, unhinged members of the population. These sisters are feared and revered in equal amounts. They are the Totem Warriors - Amazons that follow animal totems like Eagle, Piranha, Jaguar, etc, and adorn themselves in the skins and feathers of their patron gods.
    http://www.lustria-online.com/thread...-issues.15973/ Town Cryer Issue 23

    https://www.scribd.com/document/1170...attle-Bestiary

Pygmies = They are small humans in the early lore, but I’ve seen later speculative lore that paints them as halflings. Either way, these guys use blow-pipes and are very primitive. Variants include; Blow-Pipes, Poisoned Darts, Spears.
    https://www.scribd.com/document/1170...attle-Bestiary

Pygmy Braves = Many pygmy warriors use the blowpipe as their principle weapon, often with poisoned darts

    https://i.imgur.com/a3nPZUP.jpg 3rd Ed. Armies Book

    War Beasts
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Arcanodon = The Engine of the Gods is borne on the back of a mighty arcanodon, a rare beast of the deep jungles of Lustria. The energies unleashed by the Engine are terrifying to behold, as is the charge of the beast that carries it
    https://i.imgur.com/BgpM5GU.png Warhammer Realms - Lustria
    https://i.imgur.com/L1YCgUM.png Warhammer Realms - Lustria

Beastmasters = Although not expressly shown as being an Amazon unit, the Amazons originated from the Norse, who -do- have beastmasters, so it makes some sense to think that they would be available to these as well. I expect they would round up the monsters from Lustria like Cold Ones, Jaguars, and others for battle.

Warhounds are aggressive pack creatures."
    https://i.imgur.com/54jZztW.png Warhammer 3rd Edition Rulebook

Culchan = Huge, flightless, carnivorous birds that live on the grasslands of Lustria. Prized by pygmies, I’d imagine these as a flock of them.
    https://www.scribd.com/document/1170...attle-Bestiary

Jaguars = The Lustrian Jaguar is a large animal, larger than any living big-cat from our world. They cannot be ridden, but if captured young and carefully hand-reared they can be kept as pets, guards or animals of war.
    https://www.scribd.com/document/1170...attle-Bestiary

Sabre-toothed Tiger = A remnant of the prehistoric inhabitants of Lustria, it is still found deep in the jungles of that lush continent. The slann prize the tiger as a fighting animal.

    https://i.imgur.com/H1Iarv2.png White Dwarf 306

Engine of the Gods = It contains within its arcane workings the power to call down the wrath of the Old Ones upon the foes of the Lizardmen, manifesting as a blinding orb arcing from the sky to burst among the ranks of the enemy

    Special and Named Characters

Here is contained a full list of every possible Legendary Lord or Legendary Hero that I could find for the Amazons. I have split them into different categories for whether they suit being Lords or Heroes, so it is easier to know which they are best suited to being added to, if someone wished to add them to the game. Without further ado, here we go.

    Lords
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Anakonda = The warrior women, clothed in the flayed hides of Skinks, are a fearsome sight, and many wear animal-headed masks. Some dye their hair in myriad colours reminiscent of the exotic birds of the jungle and raise it with resin and sap to mimic a skink’s crest.

Penthesilea, Mark of the Serpent = Penthesilea is known as one of the greatest Amazon warriors and is a legend amongst her people. She took the fight to the norse raiders of Skeggi, slaying many men in the process and saving her enslaved sisters. It was her brilliant guerilla tactics that won the day.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Mandra the Piranha Warrior = ”Mandra the Piranha Warrior leaped at them from the shallow water, grinning wickedly. Slicing and bludgeoning with her two vicious fang-lined clubs, the Amazon waded through the skinks as easily as she did through water.”

Magical Weapons, Armour, Amulets, Scrolls and Other Items

This section deals in those magical items that can be used by this faction. This is by no means a full list, I doubt I'll ever get that, but it will provide modders with information if they wish to add new magical weapons, armour and items into the game to be used.

    Common Magic Items
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
If you follow the link below you will find dozens of magical items that are commonly found in the Old World (and beyond).
    https://www.twcenter.net/forums/show...1#post15255257

    Magic Weapons
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Basilisk Blade = ”Even after death the bones of a Basilisk poison the world around them, exuding a foul aura that can putrefy flesh and corrode metal. Weapons fashioned from the rancid bones recovered from Basilisk remains are terrifyingly deadly, but thankfully rare as they are just as deadly to their wielders as they are to their victims.”
    https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...V96TFBvQ1dNZGc Monstrous Arcanum

Cold Iron Blade = ”Ancient lore claims that only iron weapons shaped without the use of fire can harm the spirits that infest certain regions of the world. Only the strongest of smiths can perform such a feat, hammering the metal into shape with brute strength before such artefacts are enchanted. Though the results are always crudely shaped, their potency against the ephemeral creatures is unquestionable.”
    https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...V96TFBvQ1dNZGc Monstrous Arcanum

Reaper Sword = ”This mighty sword is sharper than a razor. Its keen blade glistens in the flickering torchlight, and even in the shadows It shimmers with an eerie light.”
    https://i.imgur.com/A1B8vkx.png White Dwarf Issue 187

The Lash of Itzaotyl = ”Used by the servants of the Old Ones to subdue the massive beasts that stalked the world at the dawn of time, the ancient Last of Itzaotyl ensnares all it touches with an unbreakable tendril of pure magical essence. Since its theft from the Lizardmen, by the daughters of Naggaroth millennia ago, it has known many masters and current whereabouts are unknown.”
    https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...V96TFBvQ1dNZGc Monstrous Arcanum

    Magic Armour
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Scintillating Shield = ”In the ancient legends of Estalia, retold so many times in their origin is now forgotten, heroes would be gifted with shields which were so highly polished they blinded their foes and deflected the deadly gaze of the Basilisks and Cockatrice that were the scourge of that Land in ancient days. Scintillating Shields, whether they be the items spoken of in legend or more recent creations wrought by wizard-craft, fetch a prince’s ransom when rumours of Basilisk or Cockatrice attack spread.”
    https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...V96TFBvQ1dNZGc Monstrous Arcanum

Wyrmscale Armour of the Deep = ”A glistening coat of Merwyrm scales, the enchantment on this armour keeps it coated with a shimmering Layer of briny sea water. Not only do the iron-hard scales deflect sword and arrow, but the scales still recall their home in the icy deeps of the ocean and grant their wearer passage through water and foil fiery assaults upon him.”
    https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...V96TFBvQ1dNZGc Monstrous Arcanum

    Talismans
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Faithless Charm = ”The degenerate Ettin hill clans have been known to hang these small craven charms in the dismal northern woods, warding away those who would trespass on the Ettin’s miserable existence. Each is an embodiment of the unholy curse that afflicts the very souls of the Ettin. Those foolish enough to carry one with them for any length of time find their senses sharpened - until they lose control and the curse consumes them too.”
    https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...V96TFBvQ1dNZGc Monstrous Arcanum

The Pinion of the Phoenix = ”These ephemeral feathers, plucked from the burning wings of a manifested phoenix and woven into a talisman, are preserved by the arts of ancient Elf magic. Handed down through generations of High Elf nobility, they are borne into the direst of battles as badges of honour, swiftly burning away to dust once removed from their protective caves. While they last they protect their bearer from harm, and should he fall grant him a fiery reprieve from death.”
    https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...V96TFBvQ1dNZGc Monstrous Arcanum

Warpscale Pendant = ”Crafted from the deformed scales of a Warpfire Dragon, these eerily worked talismans are the product not of twisted Skaven ingenuity as some suspect but rather of some unseen agency believed to be connected to the ruling cabals of the Tilean City-states. Ensorcelled to protect the wearer against weapons fuelled by warpstone, many Skaven wizards covet such items as a measure against assassination by their own kind - though the fear Warpfire Dragon’s cause among the warpstone-laden holds of the Skaven keeps them rare.”
    https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...V96TFBvQ1dNZGc Monstrous Arcanum

    Arcane Items
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Battle Stone of Le Marquis = ”Michel d’un Doigt was a Bretonnian wizard famous for the nine enchanted gem stones he created. The Battle Stone is a glimmering red ruby that fills its bearer with vigour and energy.”
    https://i.imgur.com/AGceWtm.png White Dwarf Issue 194

Bufo’s Hex Scroll = ”This scroll may be used to cancel out the spell of an enemy wizard and turn him into a toad.”
    https://i.imgur.com/XIAKWjB.png White Dwarf Issue 194

Freezing Death Spell Jewel = ”This jewel is carved of ice that never melts, and is freezing to the touch. When its power is invoked, it releases a lethal blast of icy shards at the Wizard’s foes.”
    https://i.imgur.com/WcvB14W.png White Dwarf Issue 187

Lifestone of Ashraaz = ”The Lifestone of Ashraaz is a jet black gem that is worn round the neck of its bearer. When invoked, a beam of light shoots out of the stone and bathes the bearer and his opponent in a pool of yellow light. When the light fades the bearer’s wounds have been magically transferred to his enemy.”
    https://i.imgur.com/O9IGyJF.png White Dwarf Issue 194

Power Stone of Le Marquis = ”Michel d’un Doigt was a powerful Bretonnian wizard who laboured long and hard to create a series of enchanted gem stones for use by the chivalric knights of that realm.”
    https://i.imgur.com/AGceWtm.png White Dwarf Issue 194

Staff of Jade = ”The Staff of Jade allows the bearer to control the winds of magic. Consequently, the staff can be used as either a Scroll of Dispelling or a Ring of Magic.”
    https://www.scribd.com/document/2394...azine-Issue-17

The Mystic Shield of Brag = ”This scroll of parchment contains a powerful anti-magic enchantment that may be used by a wizard to block the spell of an enemy spellcaster.”
    https://i.imgur.com/XIAKWjB.png White Dwarf Issue 194

    Magic Standard
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
Sacrificial Banner = ”Covered with arcane patterns daubed in blood and draped in ornate sigils and charms the Sacrificial Banner looks impressive, but its real purpose is rarely explained to those troops ‘honoured’ with its care. It is enchanted with the sole purpose of enraging and attracting the ire of the gigantic monsters that prowl the Warhammer world, so that a canny general can dictate the movement of his enemy’s most powerful ally.”
    https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...V96TFBvQ1dNZGc Monstrous Arcanum

Skavenpelt Banner = A ragged Skaven hide, freshly shorn from the body of a sacrificial victim flaps in the wind above the unit, its fetid stench driving the chosen of Sotek into a rage of bloodlust

Black Lotus = "In the deepest forests of the Southlands grows a plant which is extremely poisonous. It is known as the Black Lotus, and it is much sought-after by alchemists, assassins and bored housewives."

Dark Venom = "Dark Venom is poison extracted from Helldrakes, gigantic sea serpents that plague the Western Ocean. Even a slight wound infected by Dark Venom causes excruciating pain, incapacitating men who would otherwise ignore such scratches."
    https://i.imgur.com/EzPRfhJ.png White Dwarf 227

Green Scorpion Venom = A particularly nasty venom available from shady Araby dealers is scorpion venom. Normally, this toxin is taken from stung mice, rats, or other small animals, which are then dried and ground into powder. From this mess, the poison can be sprinkled in food and drink or mixed with oil to apply to a blade.

Viper’s Kiss = ”Another poison from animals, the black stripe vipers of Araby are some of the most poisonous snakes in the Old World. Only the most skilled animal handlers can extract poison from these creatures, and even then there is a high mortality rate. Drawn straight from the fangs of a black stripe viper, this vile liquid burns to the touch, and its fumes sting the eyes. The poison is applied to a weapon.”

Some say that the Rockcharmer’s Flute was used to destroy the old Dwarfen realms, others that it sank the fabled realm of Seidon. Silverstone Axe = ”In the ancient barrows that dot the Empire, huge enchanted axes forged of gromril, known to ancient men as Silverstone, have been found. Inert until the storms of magic howl, these axes are so heavy that only the strongest warriors can lift them and then impact shakes the ground, knocking armoured warriors from their feet while against wizards their effects are even more potent as the winds of magic lash and recoil at their blows. When a storm of magic rages these weapons are brought to the battlefield once again to bring down the titanic beasts set loose upon the world.” - Magic Weapon

The Crucible of Horrors = ”No one knows from whence the Crucible of Horrors came, but contained within the flash of twisted meteoric iron is a vortex of seething black energy which screams like the torment of damned souls. This deadly artefact has been sought out by many down the centuries, and it has passed through the hands of many tyrants, arch-sorcerers, wizards and kings, and at its use the destruction of cities and slaughter of armies has been laid. When unleashed the power of the crucible is erratic and dangerously unstable, but it can unleash devastation and even create nightmarish doppelgangers of slain monsters to fight at the wielder’s bidding. The power of the Crucible of Horrors is treacherous however, as more than one would be conqueror has found to their cost.” - Enchanted Items

The White Sistrum = ”There are many night-haunted legends originating from the foetid jungles and deadly wastes of the far hinterlands of Khuresh. Stories abound of the dread Snake Men and the foul and nightmarish Blood Naga queens who rule there, and it is a realm where men are no more than hunted prey, and blood and souls are the only coin in trade. Rarely do artefacts of this fell civilisation reach the Old World and all are steeped in blood and misunderstood power. One such artefact is the White Sistrum, a strange ivory-grown, drum shaped like an hourglass, whose discordant music brings madness and death, and evokes the terrible rites of the Naga.” - Arcane Item

    Lore Information Regarding the Amazons

When a series is being continuously updated for a quarter of a century there is bound to be a massive amount of lore that has been created for it. This is an attempt to collate important snippets of lore that I have found during my research into units. I am presenting these in note form rather than in quote form due to the sheer amount of information that is potentially able to be displayed here, but I hope that it will prove useful or interesting to you regardless.

    General Information
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    - The Giant Carnivorous Frog is a Lustrian monster that lives in the steaming back-waters of the Amoco-Cadiz river system.
    - It preys on just about any living animal it can fit into its accommodating stomach - including the primitive lizardmen and Pygmies who hunt it.
    - Pygmies maintain that they make excellent eating, and will spend hours enlightening a curious traveller as to the myriad ways of baking a frog.
    - A frog's skin is poisonous, and is used as the prime ingredient of blow-pipe poison, and in tiny amounts during the preparation of a potent Pygmy beverage.

    https://i.imgur.com/X3M5VTG.png Warhammer 3rd Edition Rulebook

    - Giant Scorpions dwell in the jungles of Lustria and other hot places of the world.
    https://i.imgur.com/fK3PRof.jpg 3rd Ed. Armies Book

    - A remnant of the prehistoric inhabitants of Lustria, it is still found deep in the jungles of that lush continent.
    https://i.imgur.com/R2IQxk6.png 3rd Ed. Armies Book

    - There are a diminutive people found in the jungles of Lustria, one tribe of which are known as the Wayarhui. One is brought back to the Imperial Court by an explorer from the Empire, but he eats a high-ranking court official. This strongly suggests they are cannibals.
    - Stories of Amazons, an all-female jungle tribe, have abounded since men first arrived in Lustria.
    - Few scholars believe the Amazons exist.
    - Those few scholars that believe they exist are of the opinion that these feral women were outcasts from the Norse settlement Skeggi.
    - Other controversial theories claim that the Amazons are an entirely separate yet related race created by the gods for a specific divine purpose. This theory is much derided.
    - Tales of vicious warrior-women wielding strange weapons of power can still be heard in the drinking dens of Swamp Town and Sartosa.
    - Lustria is home to a massive array of poisonous and deadly species, from the tiniest bloodmaggot to monstrous predators similar in size and temperament to the dragons of the Old World.
    - Lustria is pervaded by quagmires and bogs.
    - Lustria is so dangerous in all possible ways, that only the Realm of Chaos is more deadly. It is severely difficult for anyone warmblooded to establish a foothold here.
    - Megalithic temple-cities form an invisible matrix of power that stretches across the continent.
    - Each temple-city is carefully positioned to relate to specific constellations and various astral and stellar alignments.
    - Each temple-city is dedicated to a different founding Old One divinity, although within each city there are other numerous pyramids dedicated to other blessed Old Ones as well as Sotek.
    - Lizardmen perform bloody sacrifices as sacred rituals.
    - Salamanders are giant predatory amphibians that inhabit swamplands and estuaries of the jungles. They are swift-moving on land and water and are capable of launching highly corrosive, flaming liquid from their gullet.
    - Terradons have keen eyesight that can pierce the gloom of the jungle, enabling them to spot prey at great distances.
    - Terradons are surprisingly agile and are expert gliders.
    - Stegadons are among the largest and most aggressive of all creatures in Lustria. They are ancient creatures that were living there when the Old Ones first arrived.
    - Stegadons are omnivores, they feed on everything from trunks of vast forest trees to the flesh of any creature foolish enough to get in their way. If they fought a rival male, they’ll eat them too.
    - Stegadons wallow in swamps to cool down where their armoured hides protect them from the crocodiles and gigantic predatory fish that infest the waters.
    - Occasionally a precious Carnosaur egg is stolen from its nest by brave hunters and brought to the temple-cities to be incubated. These are highly treasured and eventually a baby Carnosaur will break free from it. Even as newborns they can bite a Skink in half.
    - The beasts that dwell within the jungles of Lustria display a wide variety of exotic patterns and colours.

    6th Edition Lizardmen Army Book

    - Furthermore, some Skink Priests hold that there exist places outside of the Lizardmen 's control, such as the legendary Temple of Kara where the most powerful of artefacts are stored, attended by the warrior-women of the jungle tribes and kept secret even from the servants of their creators.
    - Several hundred miles to the north of Itza is to be found a place of power named the Emerald Pools.
    - No Lizardmen other than the Slann are allowed to enter the waters of the Emerald Pools, the Saurus, Skinks and Kroxigor under strict instruction to await their master's return at the pool's edge.
    - The only warmbloods that even know of the pools' existence are the savage human tribeswomen who haunt the jungles of the region, and these hold them in as much reverence as the Slann, bathing in the glowing green waters of life.
    - The jungles are crossed by thousands of miles of waterways, from small, fast-flowing streams to the widest of rivers. Greatest amongst these is the Amaxon, which rises in the Spine of Sotek mountain range and flows down to a basin so vast it encompasses the domains of three temple-cities.
    - At the Amaxon’s widest points, the opposite bank is scarcely visible, and archipelagos stretch for miles along the river. What might be hidden on some of these isolated islands has never been discovered, for even the aquatic Skinks avoid them, by order of the Slann.
    - To the south of the temple-city of Oyxl, the jungles give way to a vast and fertile plain stretching many hundreds of miles to the southern-most extent of the continent of Lustria.
    - The plains are named after their primary inhabitants, the huge, vicious, flightless birds called Culchan.
    - The plains are an eerie place, instilled with arcane mystery, and strange lights streak across the skies by night. Perhaps this is some form of fallout from the terrible energies unleashed during the battles of the Great Catastrophe.
    - Most that set foot upon Lustria die a gruesome death before travelling far into the jungle.
    - Lizardmen possess many relics and remnants of the Old Ones’ arcane technology, these have become objects of veneration and superstition.
    - The Coatl is one of the rarest creatures to be found in Lustria. It has a snake-like body and massive feathered wings, they are highly intelligent and powerful mages.
    - Thunder Lizards are behemoths, so large they dwarf even the mighty Stegadons. Their tread shakes the earth and their deafening roar can be heard for miles. Fortunately they are very rare.
    - Should a Thunder Lizard's distant roar be heard, then runners will be sent to the nearest temple-city and the populace roused lest the beast's path take it near A Thunder Lizard passing through a city is akin to a natural disaster of the kind that sunk Chupayotl.
    - A Thunder Lizard once fought a gigantic sea monster lasting for an entire cycle of moons, their battle ended up destroying a large section of Xlanhuapec, including the Temple of the Lost that housed many irreplaceable Old One relics.
    - The savage cutting edges of Lizardmen weapons are made from a material unknown outside Lustria. Outsiders have dubbed the material ‘obsinite'.
    - The continent of Lustria is one of the most hostile regions in the entire world.
    - The majority of Lustria is covered in primordial jungle seething with flesh-eating tropical diseases, voracious blood-sucking parasites and mighty, prehistoric carnivores. Even the weather is inimical to all but native life, for tropical rainstorms and violent cyclones lash the jungles.
    - A great amount of the plant life of Lustria is carnivorous.
    - One type of fungus reproduces by choking a passing creature with a cloud of its spores, which then gestate within the victim's body, slowly transmuting it into a sickening parody of mammal and mushroom!
    - The mountains are home to hundreds of volcanoes, which make crossing the range extremely hazardous. Mighty glaciers are to be found there too, descending the valleys almost to the jungles.
    - The mountains are dotted with Lizardmen sites, though many are disused and stand mysteriously empty despite never having been touched by war.

    Cold Ones
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    - Larger Cold Ones fulfil the roles of horses, beasts of burden and cattle, whilst smaller species serve as hunting animals and domestic pets.
    - They respond well to Lizardmen tutelage but less so to the warm-blooded.
    - Few warm-blooded can stand the overwhelming and nauseous stench given off by the different cold one breeds.
    - The common riding Cold Ones are powerful, temperamental and dim-witted.
    - Once they taste blood they tend to become less indolent.
    - The term "Cold Ones" encompasses all giant subterranean reptiles in the New World.
    - Some placid species of Cold Ones eat fungus and measure up to 100 feet in length. These are not creatures of war.

    Pygmies
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
    - Chieftains often grow enormously fat, as obesity is taken as a sign of rank amongst these tiny people
    - Pygmies inhabit Lustria towards the southern parts of the jungles
    - Many tribes are hostile to the Slann, but some are vassals and pay the Lizardmen tribute
    - This tribute tends to take the form of warriors
    - Pygmies are expert hunters and trackers
    - Their culture is colourful but primitive
    - They will ritually scar themselves and paint warpaint on their bodies
    - They decorate their huts with shrunken heads
    - They will invite captives to dine with them

    - No Lizardmen other than the Slann are allowed to enter the waters of the Emerald Pools, the Saurus, Skinks and Kroxigor under strict instruction to await their master's return at the pool's edge.
    - The Slann spend many days in the Emerald Pools, the sacred waters replenishing their bodies and perhaps refreshing their ancient souls. No intruder has ever penetrated the jungles around the Emerald Pools, even during the tumultuous years of the war against the Skaven Clan Pestilens.
    - The only warmbloods that even know of the pools' existence are the savage human tribeswomen who haunt the jungles of the region, and these hold them in as much reverence as the Slann, bathing in the glowing green waters of life.

    - Lord Melchin was a hero when he returned home and was the toast of Altdorf because of his fancy tales and the lustrian wine he had bought from the diminuitive tribesmen of the Ayamara Swamp
