He is ushered inside, where he is greeted by the "lesser" of the two Consuls. The domus is obviously going through the final stages of packing. ""Salve, Quintus. I apologize for the state of my home, but I am leaving for Macedonia soon, and my son - Octavius - intends to manage our farms from our domus out of the inner city."

He turns and rummages for a moment, before finding an amphora of wine and two small cups. He quickly pours for the two. "So tell me, how can the most reviled man in Rome - Gnaeus Julius Iulus Carnifex, Tarquin Reborn - help you today?"

Quintus Caecilius Metellus Nepos greets Gnaeus stoically.

"Ave, Consul. I will speak bluntly. I am here to offer my service as a legate when you go to Macedonia. "

Gnaeus nods calmly while sipping his wine. "Your services would be most welcome, but allow me to ask. Why me? Surely your Pius would be happier if you went with Sulla?"

"My cousin, is a very traditional man Gnaeus. He is not quite in favor of giving the Italians citizenship, unless he can somehow benefit from new clients. While he might pardoned your crucifixion, it will lengthen our battles with the Italians, he was most upset about how you treated the Flamen Dialis. The Caecilii Metelli have a long religious tradition and he will soon try to become a pontiff himself. So he can not look favourably upon those who take religion lightly."

Nespos continued. "Also, I am to research dates while in Macedonia for him."

"Despite Scipio's reasoning, I genuinely regret my outburst. It does not befit a Senator. However, I cannot change the past."

Gnaeus raised his eyebrows slightly.

"You are coming to a potentially dangerous province with me to research dates? An interesting reason. No matter, I would be honoured to have you as one of my Legates, Nespos."

"Well more than dates I assure you, that is just one reason." He coughed.
"I also heard rumor that you might, ehem, be inclined to see what a few Dacian tribes might be attempting when you are there." He smiled, showing yellowy grey teeth.
"I also have a few Greek connections in case you need me in more than a military roll."

Gnaeus suddenly grinned. "There'll be plenty of glory, I assure you! Once I get over this dip in senatorial favour I'll give those Dacians what for. I hear they have plenty of gold."

"Gold would be very useful."
"But there is also money to be made in Macedonia and Greece, without resorting to violence."

"True, I intend to develop the roads in order to improve the flow of trade from Thrace. I also intend to perofmr extensive surveying for minerals. Iron is rare, and is perhaps as valuable to Rome as gold."

"I have not heard of Iron in Macedonia, nothing significant anyway. Raod ways are nice, and trade is well. But really Iulus, we can make denarii off the Greeks. They have many temples." Nespos smiled

"No, but with mineral surveying we may find a few deposits of something."

Iulus.cocked his head and smile wryly. "How do you intend to make money from religion?"

"Now Iulus, there is no need to get in to such details now, we can discuss that further when we travel. That is if you will have me?"
