    Concerning Military Education I have now some different names in mind.

    For now (ver. 1) it is:
    Military_Edu:
    Basic Military Education: Trained Soldier
    Standard Military Education: Master Soldier
    Advanced Military Education: Trained Commander
    Master Military Education: Master Commander

    I plan to change it into:

    Basic Military Education: Trained Soldier
    Standard Military Education: Trained Officer
    Advanced Military Education: Trained General
    Master Military Education: Trained Commander-in-Chief

    Edit: I've convinced myself for this change, so it's now included in the post 13 and will appear in the version 2 of the mod.

    I'm upgrading the changes in this minimod in the SSHIP 096. The Military and Pagan Education will look like this (if you've got editorial comments, just drop here a line):


    Military Education.

    Military Education provides a general with very valuable military skills. It has four levels: Soldier Training, Officer Training, General Training and Commander-in-Chief Training. The first two (and, exceptionally, the third one) can be acquired by teenagers studying in the castles. Two higher levels require real military experience in the battles and some further studying. Of course, the main way to get this type of education is by fighting battles!

    Any general spending a whole turn in a castle-type settlement can get the Military Education. Military Minded teenagers can be trained very efficiently, while the Administrative oriented ones may get only the basic martial skills. The higher the level of the castle, the better - training in a citadel with much military buildings is obviously the most efficient – “Born to Command” or “Born Conqueror” youngsters may event get the General Training here. Father traits have a significant impact on education, but having good natural military skill (ie having Talent for Command, being Natural Commander or better), positive cognitive traits, ancillaries like Tutor, Mentor or military book also count. On the other hand, being not fit physically or mentally may thwart education.

    Once a general matures, he should go for war and get the hands-on experience. This will give him additional Military Education but also prepares him for further studies. If he becomes Promising Commander, Great or Renown Victor, or scores a Major Victory, he can complement education at a fortresses or a citadel, spending there a few turns. It’s possible unless he is older thatn 50, or not fit physically or mentally.

    During his life a general can learn things or two also from other sources – having a Military Book or living in a settlement with a relevant guild may help, if he’s got natural military skills.


    Pagan Education.

    Pagan Education provides pagan generals with valuable military and administrative skills. It’s available for the Lithuanians and the Cumans. It has four levels: Basic, Standard, Advanced, Master. Pagans get their education as teenagers by studying in their settlements where their shrines are built: altars, sanctuaries and temples (the bigger, the better). Also staying in wild may help a bit. The higher levels of education are acquired easier by the administratively minded generals or those with natural military skills (ie those “Born to Command” or “Born Conqueror). However, all the military minded generals can get the same knowledge by successfully fighting battles!

    Interesting. I have never really looked into what gives my characters traits. What you are describing there seems coherent and quite logical to me. It's good that the game takes all of this into account !

    Actually, the traits enabling game-role-playing the one of a few aspects of the Medieval 2 enginge that is much better as compared to the Warscape. Well, among the other's are: better battles, better modability, better maps, lack of dominant sniping tactics etc. I've played Medieval Kingdoms on Attila and I think it'll never be as good as the SS.

    Mongols are not playable so I don't bother with them. the pagan triggers may be adjusted to them at some point, but it'd be in future.

    After 3,5 years I've implemented my plan to make educational ancillaries. In the educational process they compensate for lack of Intelligence and provide a marginal benefit for all: the idea is that a teenager can be not-Intelligent but still learn something, but if he's Intelligent a Tutor won't make such a big difference

    Castle education are only available to Catholic faction. Orthodox and Islam (not sure about Pagan) don't have access to one.

    Also my general are highly likely to born with Administrative mind. General or adoption also leans toward Adminstrative but at least you could control it meanwhile my Dynasty after the first ruler will be mostly either Governor or Governor who happens to lead battle a lot because he is the Faction leader/Heir

    castle education - right. This is iirc the legacy of the base SS (or vanilla Med2) because castle libraries were available only for the Catholic factions.
