Thread: Historical sources

    Default Historical sources

    Hey,

Some of the biographies got me really interested in certain people/events but when looking for them on the internet I couldn't find any information. I would love to learn more about them so could you tell me what sources you used?
    Thanks in advance.

I would assume that they used the "Sanguozhi" (Records of the Three Kingdoms) by Chen Shuo and, of course, the novel "Romance of the Three Kingdoms". I personally believe it's based more on the novel then the records by Chen Shuo, but that really doesn't matter.

If you want to read them, try the Kongming Archives (http://kongming.net/), especially the encyclopedia (http://kongming.net/encyclopedia/), many of the sources have been translated by the community, and most of the major officer' biographies have been translated.

Thanks, do you perhaps know if any English sources are used? Apart from the novel.

Most of the English stuff available are academic translations and essays on the subject, particularly the works/translations of Achilles Fang and Rafe de Crespigny. Other then that, I can't really think of any other major English writers, although de Crespigny has wrote a lot on the subject.
