The Byzantine Empire and the Moorish Caliphate previously agreed to a non-aggression pact, which the Empire fully intended to honor. That pact was broken, however, when the Moors moved a large army, with siege weapons, onto ships in range to assault Palermo. The Empire always kept its siege weapons a fair distance away from all Moorish settlements (at least two turns). We expected the same courtesy from the Moors, but obviously they chose not to reciprocate. Such provocation can only be answered with a preemptive strike.

The offending fleet is sunk in two battles, all of the soldiers on board drowned beneath the waters of the Mediterranean. Due to the breakdown of relations, the Empire also sinks two scout ships which had been allowed to patrol our waters as a gesture of good faith.

It really wasn't planned out. I hadn't decided who I was going to fight yet. But I'm not going to tolerate someone with whom I supposedly have a NAP moving a siege weapon and a large army in range of one of my settlements. How exactly do you expect me to put up with that?

Those are not defensive units those are offensive, and i was mustering a defence against HRE since he is clearly building up same as you on my Border. This new Byzantium king is a joker, last one had common sence but wait, youre in league with HRE no need to explain
