Yessssssss the Byzantines are back! Are these guys going to be available as a full-fledged faction in custom battles or only via the successor states?

These units look great, as well as Epirus and the Mercs! Are the Byzantines and Epirotes going to be released for Custom Battles before the eventual main release? I sure hope so.

Also, the other week I was trying to fool around with the PFM manager (unsuccessfully) and I noticed that most of my favourite units in the mod were made by Ltd. Great work man! You aren't distracted by the Euro 2016 too much

    They look terrific !
One question though : shouldnt the varangians have more norse looking or english looking armor ? The current one seems to have a more Italian influence.

The Varangians are a late era unit. So, by this time they weren't really Scandinavian. This is irrelevant anyway. They were supposed to be an elite guard unit. So they were armoured as well as the Empire could. The best armour Constantinople had access to was Italian obviously.

It is an interesting question (the answer to which I don't know) about possible English involvement. Apparently, English men-at-arms were there during the defense of Constantinople during the 1394-1402 siege. A Late Medieval era English man-at-arms should be able to afford very good armour (+ several horses, a well armoured squire, vallet, an archer or two...). Wouldn't English m-a-arms own North European armour?

I think that it's reasonable to assume that Englishmen that found themselves employed in Constantinople did so after some significant service in Italy- the famous condottierre- mercenaries. Makes perfect sense. So, it is also reasonable to assume that they would own Italian made armour.

So, I think that if the Anglovarangians have Italian-influenced armour, this is a good choice.

Nice-looking units, Ltd. I had the same idea to equip the longsword with the long-axe animation to approximate half-swording with the late units, but haven't made any late-units yet. I'm curious how the animation looks in-game.

If there was any "Varangian guard" remnants in the European "late" era (English sources are very limited, I've tried) then they were long and well past any Scandinavian influence. More likely English or German mercenaries provided a similar function, possibly the identification as Varangoi survived as an hereditary device.

Nope, I extracted the models and textures from a Skyrim mod called the Knights of Garter.

No, like sly said, those are from the skyrim mod called knights of garter, and have been re-textured and modified to fit the attila horses.

Admitedly I was a bit eh about the early units (Don't get me wrong, they look good I just had flashbacks to the terrible purple swarm of Byzantines) but these look perfect. I'm glad you didn't just put them in plate armor and germanic helmets like I've seen some mods do

The longswords of the Anglovarangoi, but also mixing them up with axes. That is just perfect stuff right there.

    ~Wille
Thorolf was thus armed. Then Thorolf became so furious that he cast his shield on his back, and, grasping his halberd with both hands, bounded forward dealing cut and thrust on either side. Men sprang away from him both ways, but he slew many. Thus he cleared the way forward to earl Hring's standard, and then nothing could stop him. He slew the man who bore the earl's standard, and cut down the standard-pole. After that he lunged with his halberd at the earl's breast, driving it right through mail and body, so that it came out at the shoulders; and he lifted him up on the halberd over his head, and planted the butt-end in the ground. There on the weapon the earl breathed out his life in sight of all, both friends and foes. [...] 53, Egil's Saga
I must tell you here of some amusing tricks the Comte d'Eu played on us. I had made a sort of house for myself in which my knights and I used to eat, sitting so as to get the light from the door, which, as it happened, faced the Comte d'Eu's quarters. The count, who was a very ingenious fellow, had rigged up a miniature ballistic machine with which he could throw stones into my tent. He would watch us as we were having our meal, adjust his machine to suit the length of our table, and then let fly at us, breaking our pots and glasses.
