Im guessing this was never resolved???

I am getting exactly the same problem!

M2TW works fine online, Kingdoms tells me invalid cd key.

I have done regedit thing, cd key is correct, 100% guarenteed.

Allusers preference is set to 1, not 0, and i have tried resending validation email from gamespy and creating a new account, all with nothing!

Pls, someone, somewhere, has to know what to do. Sega and official TW Forums are useless, about as helpful as a paper umbrella, and gamespy support never got back to me!

    You're getting the error message:
    "Login failed - invalid CD-key"

Right this is how to resolve (with thanks to various posters)
You cannot change the cd-key ingame anymore (most likely for the protection against illegal games), so you have to do other things.

    Open Start
    Click Run
    Type: regedit
Now go to this: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/SEGA/Medieval II Total War"

Now you'll see a value representing the CD-key. Change it to what it should be. You could have done the following wrong:
    -Don't type spaces
    -Do type the "-"s
    -Don't use "o"s use "0"s
-Type everything (except for the numbers obviously) in capital letters
If you do this accordingly, it will work.

In case you still have problems, make a clean reinstall of M2TW and patch it with 1.2 and 1.3 after. If you have gold edition nothing is needed. Type in CDkey with capital letters and 0 instead of o. Thats the most important part. CD key is 100% case sensitive.

This doesnt always work, as some distrubutors of the game were assigned faulty CD Keys!

If this doesnt work for you, then what you have to do is this:

    1. Go to SEGA.com and create an account there (i think its called a SEGA Pass)

    2. Log into your SEGA pass account and press the "Support Ticket" option.

    3. Type in your problem, along with everything you have tried so far.

    4. SEGA will e-mail you back with a random code, and ask you to write it down on a piece of paper.

    5. You then need to take a picture of your games (discs and cases) with the piece of paper in front of them and your name written on it. E-mail this back to SEGA. (They only accept jpeg format pictures)

    6. Once they have received the picture from you, SEGA will E-Mail you a brand new CD Key.

    7. Using reg edit input the new CD Key supplied by SEGA.

There you go, it now works perfect!

This is about the 5th thread at just TWC i have explained this on, i might have to start charging SEGA a fee!

Haha that is rather lame from SEGA having to take a picture of it all together, but I suppose it's worth it!

I had the error recently, had to totally remove everything and reinstall.

Hey can someone tell me if he had the same problem?
I couldn't type the whole cd-key. Then i couldnt click next but when i typed 4 boxes (I believe) i could click next. I think thats the problem why I have the invalid cd-key.

Plz tell me if you had the same problem

    THREAD BE REVIVED

I have Windows 7. So when i do the regedit thing and go to Local_Machine and Software, I cant find SEGA. I looked everywhere else - Current User and Users, and I can't find it.

well i've been having this problem since i bought the game when it came out.
i've just recieved a brand new cd key from sega,i entered it in the registry loaded the game up and.
    it still didn't bloody work.

i don't even think it's checking the cd key cause it throws up the logon failed message instantly,it just seems to not want to work.
i'll do a reinstall after i finish my last campaign and try again.
if that doesn't work i might buy a new copy just incase it's my whole game that's the problem.

I already tried that. Reinstalled my entire OS, and bought a new copy from Steam when it was on sale. Still not working.....

My issue is slightly different in that I bought the game, it worked, Ive since uninstalled it (been playing a lot of Empire Total War) and recently saw pics of TA:TW. WANT! So I go to re-install MTW2 and theres no book. Ive moved twice so after a search i labelled it lost.

Now I want to re-install to download Third Age it's asking for my key again. Ive used the registry editor suggested above and NONE of my serials are there. For ANY of my games. I'm assuming it was disabled for Vista or something...

I don't want to go searching for hours for an illegal keygen to play this game and screw that if Sega think I'm gonna send them a photo to prove I own the game when I registered with them anyway when I bought it. Too much of a palava.

Any other ways I can sort this?

weirdly i just put in 16 random numbers in 4 blocks of 4 seperated by a hyphen... and it worked! Mad.

I can't even find my Medieval 2 total war folder in regedit... Really ing sucks since I'd like to play online with my friend, who downloaded the game and had it work fine.
